  1. In my super inexperienced opinion the speed of the reload is dictated by when you need to shoot again. The reason we turn and burn for the fast reload in practice is for that standing reload we cannot avoid in the match. Or in IDPA the reload we must run to stand and reload. I am reloading at the speed of "wow!" followed by "that was awesome" or "I thought you'd never finish" usually more of the former. How does one go about finding the reload par time for those of us that don't yet own timers? I have just been setting the par time I want on Matt Burkett's dryfire site and trying like the devil to make it, but it's hit or miss.
  2. I am running an XS 24/7 night sight on my JM 625. It is about .285 high and has a white contrasting ring around the tritium vial. I believe they make a pin in version as well. I find this is a good all around sight for indoor, low light and outside. It never seems to disappear. I'm running .155 rear gap and also took a 5/32" chainsaw file and U'd the rear sight out in order to fit the full "ball in the cup." This is giving me better results than my fiber optic which I tend to find invisible inside or in low light and too much in bright sunlight. Good Luck getting the gun back. I couldn't help but chuckle as I was recently unfaithful to my 625 at a local match with a glock and was rewarded with a time noticeably slower than the 625's run. Plastic bad....stainless good!
  3. In response to the absence of recoil and head box only...this strikes me as a good idea. Require the .22 shooters to go all or nothing...no -1's or -3's. You hit the head or chest or -5. This is a realistic simulation of the cartridge's stopping power and steel is still knock down. Let them fire double taps at the steel if they must. No quarter. Yes my feelings have changed about this since the last two matches I've SO'd.
  4. Autos are allowed, but downloaded to six with all shooting to slide lock as the COF is wonderfully 6 friendly. This makes for a neat match as pocket nines come out, etc. I like the three transitions also, but if I do it I know somebody will cry about it. Duane makes a good point about the blind transition, but figuring the short range of this all shots can basically be fired on index alone and as I am taking up trigger through the transition my shot should be as quick as the alignment. I believe the distance was five yards at the revo match and the hispeed IDPA match.
  5. Had another match tonight. Spelled it out in the stage walk throughs and still had two people(shameless gamers) blow it and try to play rulebook on us. Twin failure drills separated by a non threat 5 yds away from start point. Specified two hits to the body THEN one hit to each head in Tac Seq and got 1-2-opposite head-head-body and then 1-2-head-head-1. Thanks again to Steve J for a leg to stand on. They each conceded the point, but only after they saw that whining wasn't going to work. The big problem I have with this is that its so gray and some SO's think it is and some think it isn't a multilegal approach exercise. It's not the the same for everybody, as we are all different, but everyone should be held to the same standard on the rule enforcement from the first shooter to the last.
  6. So sorry in my post match excitement I forgot to include distance and orientation. The targets were five yards distant shoulder to shoulder on the same backer and tac sequence was specified. Thanks to everyone for their contribution. Steve J...you have definitely given me the necessary ammo for next time. I guess wannabe gamers are worse than the real thing because they take up so much match time with questions on the line.
  7. So a question came up at a match from a guy that is not fast enough to be a gamer, but sure does like to discuss the rules and multiple ways of doing things. The COF started pizza box in hand with two threats each needing 2+1 at the buzzer drop the box and blaze away. As I understand it it's 1-2-1-head-head for six magical shots and four transitions. The theory being that the reason for the head shots is the failure of the two body shots to stop the threat. This individual asked why not 1-2-head-head-1? Or 1-1-head-head-1-1? The only rule based answer I could give to stop this was because the COF description says 2 to the body and then one to the head. I made the executive decision to have the shooter fill up the body before proceding to the heads, made it clear to each competitor before the buzzer, and passed this on to my relief when it was my time to shoot. Bring forth all the fastest ways to do it please whether legal or not and a definite answer based in logic. Thanks, Forrest
  8. I don't find it over sized at all. I find it points very naturally and my only complaint is the super short ejection rod. Now if I could just get it to reload a little quicker...
  9. I once made the mistake of not chamber checking every round to be used for the match. I had that way above my normal level going on until I hit the moonclip with a fat round and had a happy seven second reload. Upon feeling the failure to settle into the cylinder I had the bright idea to help it in, creating a bigger problem. 10 seconds later a 14 second stage was doubled.
  10. I like it. How'd you do it and where can I get one? How bad is recoil plate fouling on that gun?
  11. I was going for more of Cody Jarrett....from White Heat and of no relation to his illustrious fortyship I thought about wearing a 3 piece suit and hat to match but then found out the targets don't care about a sharp dressed man. What's the consensus on rechambering to shoot .38 super in brass at least? It's only a .005 larger on case and neck diameter and I don't think I'd be looking for major in a K frame.
  12. You must be getting some super fast reloads in those chambers. I assume it polishes them to some degree? Mine still has machine marks inside and I'm looking for a solution.
  13. So I am limited to whatever I can do out of a 2" bbl? After reading the rule on this it's not so bad they'll still let me shoot the match through even if I don't make minor.
  14. We won't gig ya... My simple trick is a stainless steel tornado brush into the cylinders rapidly three to five times a charge hole before dragging a bore snake through same twice. This seems to work wonders. I don't seem to have a big problem in one caliber cylinders as much as multi-caliber...i.e. .38 reloads in a .357 or .45 LC cowboy loads in a .460. I noticed that the longer shells would click or clunk into place. The tornado or vortex...whatever they call it took care of this problem and has not affected any accuracy. I would stick with stainless steel as holds up better than bronze brushes. I got mine from the local BassPro for 2 or 3$, but any place with a decent firearms accessory selection should be able to help you.
  15. I agree 100% with not cutting springs there are too many lighter replacements available that will still ensure the full travel of the striker. The Glockworx kit is good stuff and I have not had any light strikes with reloads or factory. I've had this in place for about 2000 rounds now.
  16. Looks to me like it's been "Faux-monized." Let's just say I'm not afraid to take up a great idea when I see one. Thanks for the inspiration! Although I'm very sure you do a better job. This was a learning experience and just plain fun. If I ever get to a big time match I'd welcome your critique. Yes it's aggressive enough alright. Sorry I could not make North Mountain this time. Failure to plan ahead on primer supply led to an ammo crunch on the .45 side and as my project is not yet cut for clips...I wasn't about to donate brass to the grass. The beauty of this gun is the transition speed and smooth trigger. Long range accuracy...coming soon. I'm thinking about sighting in for 125's but would love the peanut gallery's take on suggested loads. IDPA says it can make power factor in the longest barrel length allowable for the division (4" bbl) how about USPSA? Does it have to make it in your gun?
  17. This is the kind of reasonable person that should have a hand in writing the next "Rule Book." I believe that the rule book was meant to be prosecuted by honest and reasonable people in origin. I also believe that everybody has an agenda and too many folks are losing sight of honest and reasonable when shooting and regulating a match. The most desperate of these types are those that have peaked and not accepted same. The poster that decided to have them retain the magazine no matter what is on to something. Issuing an FTDR for round dumping is either going to burn somebody that had no idea what they were doing or tie up the match when a gamer gets called and then gets loud over it and gets the match director involved in protest arbitration. Everyone holding on to the magazine at this point defeats all attempts to circumvent the COF although bending a rule to do so.
  18. I decided to venture out to a local IDPA match and try out my newest tinkerage: a S&W Model 10 snubnose. I bobbed the hammer polished the action and tuned the mainspring to the ammo...almost. The first stage which was 3 strings of 5 static steel should have been a cake walk with the longest shot being at about 15 yds. After a six miss zeroing session (on the clock directed at the first target) I was off to the races with a reload and my first hit and four more to complete the string. I must have been staring at the target that first cylinder as all but one or two shots subsequently were center punches. I was also plagued by a series of light strikes (due to primer seating)until I switched back to a factory length strain screw. The match then went on with great ease as the gun functioned flawlessly and was easy to shoot freestyle and SHO. Everything was going well until the long shots came at about 20yds on paper which felt like 100 with the small sight radius...no it wasn't pretty. This gun proved to be very accurate today and I was grateful for challenge and the lessons in attention to detail. I can hardly wait to exorcise the gremlins, get in some practice and redeem myself on the scoresheet that I somehow escaped the bottom of. I attached a picture to prove existance.
  19. Aren't we forgetting the dress code? Sports jersey mumu, pants six inches below waistline and shoes must never be tied. you guys are close to profiling...psychological profile: a description of the likely character, behaviour and interests of a violent criminal which is based on evidence collected from the place where a crime was committed...do we really want to do this here?? No sir we are not profiling. We aren't looking to find anything. We are HYPOTHESIZING a potential new shooting discipline with dress and equipment restrictions...like cowboy action. How about a retro division for pocket pistols and snubbies requiring a three piece suit, hat and shined shoes? All draws must be made from pockets and while reciting movie lines.
  20. I believe that it allows greater clearance to the frame combined with less plastic checking the speed of the case rim as it is rocketed forward upon release making for a more reliable reload. I also found those stupid prongs can get hung up on the cylinder. That was my first chop...the second was when I realized that those long stabilizing holes were slowing the cases down and in some cases pulling them back out as the loader fell away. Super revo shooters feel free to chime in here...I'm a relative newbie to Retro or SSR. I very much enjoy my 625, but am learning that a model 10 snubbie has its cool points too.
  21. Get the Zevtech spring kit for the Glock at glockworx.com and install and forget about the rest. If you're feeling super squirelly put in a race disconnector as well. You can with a little time and patience drop her down to a crisp 2 to 2.5 pounds with 100% reliability with factory ammo.

  23. For a real challenge why not just use a Model 10 snubbie like that crazy good guy did on YouTube? Yeah he's on this forum but I can't remember his handle. That gun would be legal for all games and pretty quick to transition too I suppose.
  24. Rest and ice that finger for a few days until the swelling and soreness subside. Do not take ibuprofen as a regimen without consulting a doctor first. That stuff can be hard on your stomach and cause it to bleed. Just hang the shooter up for a few days. I had a similar problem with my revo.
  25. 686's with 4 to 6 inch barrels...some use old PPC guns. Some sort of cup style race holster or kydex...Safari land comp 3's. This is what the good retro shooters use at my local match.
