  1. Mike, Obviously you sound like you want to compete and be competitive. Get your gun set up now. Do the sights (Warren Sevigny FO from Dawson). Trigger kit (I like Glock trigger.com) Jagger guide rod (call them, tell them what you want to do with the gun, and do as they suggest) Get a standard slide lock lever (it comes with extended on the G34) Grip tape is a must. BT holster is awesome. Get yourself the AGI Glock DVD if you like to know how to work on your pistol. Go have fun.
  2. Thanks for both replies. You mentioned "reasonable" amount of time above. There's the rub! Agreeing what reasonable is. I think it is most important that you are aware before you make an order what that time will be, and that you are willing to wait for the quality you expect from a given builder. I would also say, I have a few "ins" but am reluctant to call them in. They may need to use them for their own emergencies. Thank you again! WG
  3. You still have to have the right equipment to do these ultra fast splits. I will use my '73 lever rifle as an example. I could not beat 4 seconds with 10 rounds on steel. I did a few mods to the rifle and knocked off .5 seconds. I sent it in to a well known smith, and got that down to under 3.5 seconds, but was still out running the rifle. I sent it off to another very respected shooter that did some additional timing work on the action and viola, I could do runs around 2 seconds. (between 2.4 and 2 seconds) After basically wearing out the pins in the rifle, I put another kit in my rifle, but the timing was just not right from that point on, and am now lucky to get three second runs again. I have all this logged and need to dig up my rifle log, but I think my best was about 1.98 seconds, the record is something like 1.73 seconds, I just can't imagine. That is screaming fast. I never tried with the fast splits, they just happened, but it took lots of shooting to get there. If I tried to push this, I would basically lock up. The Bill Drills are sound advice, zero tension, a great start, but remember, in some cases, the equipment is a big factor. Don't look at it others times as anything more than goals. Lots of sound advice in the previous post. Good shooting.
  4. Chris, The Glock is really fun to work on yourself if you so choose. I purchased the AGI DVD, and now feel comfortable doing anything to my Glock except machine work. As also mentioned there are also several upgrade kits out there. The smiths do very good work, I am not knocking them either, I am just saying there is a lot of gratification for me to work on my own equipment too. Enjoy,
  5. Do a YouTube search on this. You will get several opinions. I like Saul Kirsch's explanation on grip.
  6. If that's your SASS alias, I am sure everyone will see a lot more of you. Very good advice.
  7. In the last two years, my Aunt, my mother and today my mother in law passed away. I just sat down and this post literally jumped out at me. I was executor for my mom and aunt. My wife will be for her mother. It is never easy. I was just able to close my aunts estate this summer, mothers estate last week. The relief was amazing, but short lived. There is much good advice here. Most importantly is that there is help, and there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Death is what makes life so special. My best to you all, Gene
  8. That does not sound right. Have you checked you tube?
  9. I don't begrudge anyone for making a living, or an honest profit. If they can't, they're not going to be in business too long. G
  10. Bart, Great post. Yes, there is much more to running a business than simply putting out a product. A big part is also service after the sale, and, in my opinion, repair for existing customers should come before shipping new guns. There are a lot of costs in shipping out a product, and a lot of time invested. I have to admit, I have contacted my gunsmith one time since my original order. It is not a secretary that answers the phone, it is him, and for every second he is on the phone with me, he is probably loosing two on shop time. I will wait. I am certain I will be happy I waited. I am happy I chose the builder I did. This is not a "trash the smith" thread. It is to help me and others know what to expect when ordering a custom built 2011. Thank you. G
  11. No offense taken, we are still talking guns, and how long it can take to get them. And i am happy I am not in California! I too have to agree with Bart, I don't think that payment is a huge issue, at least that payment manipulation can make a big difference with a quality smith. Yes it is a bit OT, but interesting. We are all blessed to be able to order these many fine pistols, even our friends in California. Regards, Geno
  12. I'm not getting one for dependablity, if I wanted dependable, I'd get a Glock, I'm in it for the "cool factor"..
  13. I put down about half. My bad for not setting a date as you suggested in a later post. I waited years for a Shiloh Sharps, but I knew it was going to be about 30 months going into it. For some reason, I was expecting about four months, don't know where that came from. I spoke with a couple guys that know the company, and they have all said seven to nine months is normal. I am sure it will be well worth the wait..... Thanks everyone so far. It is very interesting.
  14. HOLY CRAP! I guess I'll be patient a bit longer. I am curious about Benny Hill, Brazos, and some of the others. Predator is about 2-4 weeks depending on specifications. Thank you so far.
  15. What are wait times for some of the custom gun builders out there? I am curious. (read "tired of waiting and ready to get on the phone, or order from another builder") My order will be 8 months this weekend. Thank you very much. Geno
  16. Here is some very interesting material on the Captains of Crush grippers. I find it very interesting that there are only about 100 people that are certified as closing the #3 and one the #4, also that at the Arnold Classic, they tested several participants and something like only one person closed the #2. http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/cyberpump9.htm Amazing!
  17. Ha, that's going to get a few peoples shorts in a bind. Where in the PNW? Geno
  18. We all have our cross' to bear. +1 on Powder River Precision via Wallyworld.
  19. That's Fake! No Way! Actually, that is amazing. I've never seen the movie, but that is really something. Thank you for sharing, and thanks for making such a good point. A bit of trivia, I think it may have been Bob Munden that did a segment about draw speed in old westerns. I believe two of the fastest were Jerry Lewis and Sammy Davis Jr.. Regards, WG.
  20. I have a DOH and just picked up a Race Master. I have spent the last few days coming to the conclusion that for me a slight angle forward works for the RM, over the original very forward cant I started out with. It seems I can get my hand on my grip easier. My DOH is set up as a straight drop. I think body geometry is more of a factor than anything, and you set up the holster in a manner that best compliments your body type to accomplish the same end result. Good luck, WG
  21. It's relative. If I can now exert a maximum of 100 lbs of force with my hand, I can, let's say, apply 50 lbs of usable force while gripping the gun before the tension become counterproductive. If through training, my grip increases to 120 lbs, now I can apply 60 lbs of usable force without tension becoming a problem. Or something like that. I just threw those numbers out there. Makes total sense, and is what I suspected. I had just never really thought about it.
  22. What about the Sig Sauer P238? It is a 1911 style. It was basically the Colt Mustang "Pocket Lite", and Sig bought the rights and machinery to produce it. It may only come in .380, I do not recall. The STI Escort looks really cool, I would like to shoot one of the 9's.
  23. Got mine today. Went out in the -3 deg. F. and tried it, and again when it warmed up to +14. I was really impressed. You have to make sure the Insert Slide Lock is in the correct position to secure the gun ( otherwise it acts suspiciously just like the issues others have had with the holster), but it is very secure when in place. It is very fast and ultra smooth. We will see how it holds up. So far, I would buy it again. Wg
