  1. Thanks buddy, I am very happy for you. You went in and addressed the problem and beat it. I have friends die because they did not have the sense of mind you had. I was a Captain on a VFD, and between putting out fires, cleaning up auto accidents, drowning victims, shooting victims, people burned up, torn up, heart attacks, people dying while doing CPR, children, mothers, fathers, friends, I have to joke around a little. Otherwise, I would have gone insane long ago. Cheers! Gene
  2. I thought one of those electric dog collars wasn't working. You can see where this is going. I tried it on my hand and nothing really, then my arm and it was no big deal, then I strapped it on my neck, and when I hit the button....... The worst of it is it startled me so much, I hit the button another two or three times before I could put the damned thing down..... Your neck is way more sensitive than your hands or arms... It was a true Darwin moment.. WG
  3. Great! A little observation for you: Q: Doctor, I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life. Is this true? A: Your heart only good for so many beats, and that it...don't waste on exercise. Everything wear out eventually. Speeding up heart not make you live longer; it like saying you extend life of car by driving faster. Want to live longer? Take nap. Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables? A: You must grasp logistical efficiency. What does cow eat? Hay and corn. And what are these? Vegetables. So steak is nothing more than efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to your system. Need grain? Eat chicken. Beef also good source of field grass (green leafy vegetable). And pork chop can give you 100% of recommended daily allowance of vegetable product. Q: Should I reduce my alcohol intake? A: No, not at all. Wine made from fruit. Brandy is distilled wine, that mean they take water out of fruity bit so you get even more of goodness that way. Beer also made of grain. Bottom up! Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio? A: Well, if you have body and you have fat, your ratio one to one. If you have two bodies, your ratio two to one, etc. Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program? A: Can't think of single one, sorry. My philosophy is: No pain...good! Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you? A: YOU NOT LISTENING! Food are fried these day in vegetable oil. In fact, they permeated by it. How could getting more vegetable be bad for you?!? Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the middle? A: Definitely not! When you exercise muscle, it get bigger. You should only be doing sit-up if you want bigger stomach. Q: Is chocolate bad for me? A: Are you crazy?!? HEL-LO-O!! Cocoa bean! Another vegetable! It best feel-good food around! Q: Is swimming good for your figure? A: If swimming good for your figure, explain whale to me.. Q: Is getting in shape important for my lifestyle? A: Hey! 'Round' a shape! Well, I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had about food and diets. And remember: Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!" AND..... For those of you who watch what you eat, here's the final word on nutrition and health. It's a relief to know the truth after all those conflicting nutritional studies. 1. The Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans. 2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans. 3. The Chinese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans. 4. The Italians drink a lot of red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans. 5. The Germans drink a lot of beer and eat lots of sausages and fats and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans. CONCLUSION: Eat and drink what you like. Speaking English is apparently what kills you. Your Pal, WG
  4. I really like the BFG's. I have some on my '06 Tacoma and the '94 Toyota. Lots of friends run them on their bigger trucks year round. They hold up well and are better half worn out than many new tires if you have to go off the road, but still smooth and IMHO fairly quiet.
  5. Looks like we're in the same boat. My Edge's stock magwell seems pretty big already. I know that if I jam my hand up into the beavertail as high as I can, it still hangs down over the bottom of the grip a bit. Are the Dawson's "longer too"? Haven't made it to town yet to mail the book. I'll let you know. Thanks, Gene
  6. I can't really find much about the "CZ 75 SP01 Shadow Target" specifically. I've found SP01's, saw a Shadow, SP01 Shadow, but nothing like the 75 SP01 Shadow Target on the CZ website. Anyone have or shoot one? What do you think? I like the looks of these and the STI GP6C's, but lean toward the CZ. I don't really need one, but am very intriged by them, and could be convinced.... WG
  7. Thanks everyone. Basically all interesting ideas. I am of the school of thought that if it is working, leave it alone, BUT, I found there were a few things that just should be done, like polishing the feed ramp, like grinding the inside of the grip to blend in with the magwell, those sort of things, and I am sure I missed a few things. As in my cowboy guns, I am sure that as I progress, there will be things that I feel must be done, that are meaningless to me right now. I do think it is funny that the mag I worked on feeds better than the 4 tunned ones I just bought. This is a PERFECT example of things you may have to do. I think it is interesting that these things don't feed that well, or better stated that you have to really watch the magazines the way we do. G-Man, YEP, I can't wait... I couldn't wait would be a better statement. I will be spoiled, and have tosend this one off after the other one comes in. Thanks all. WG
  8. Curtis, You can have the book. How about postage, or a trade? I don't care. What ever you like. Free is even fine. I mean it was $3.99. Enjoy. PM me your mailing address. Gene ------------------------------------- Other book spoken for.........
  9. Bayou and Shooter, I just went to a regional hardware store and found a book called "Model 1911 Automatic Pistol" by Robert Campbell. It is not the greatest book, more of a history, discusses different models, sights, loads, some tests. Hard cover, about 160 pages, published 2004. Not a technical manual, but I bought three of them because they were $3.99 each plus tax. Hey, it was a good deal. Anyway, if you guys want a copy, I will send you each one of them if you cover shipping. Shouldn't be more than $5.00. If you guys don't want them, anyone else is welcome, but you guys can have first dibs. Gene
  10. And what game do you want to play?
  11. All I saw were the two books for the 1911. Is there one about 2011's specifically or do you just use a 1911 reference? WG
  12. Every one and no one. My last run and this run. Ok, I started reading Brian's Book....
  13. Untill last February, I had never heard of an STI. Now, I am the proud owner of an STI Edge. The gun is as it came from the factory. The only upgrades it has are a drilled and tapped mag button, and a Dawson fiber front sight. It came with a 126mm mag. It is .40 S&W. Now, I am finding out all these things you can do to them, but what do you NEED to do to them to drive one at a match? First off, I learned, the STI is not the same as an SV. They are similar, but I believe the magazines are different among other things. Magazines. The pistol came with a 126mm mag., so before it even arrived, I ordered additional mags. I purchased a set of 4 Dawson Precision Custom tuned mags. They are the 149mm's. I believe they have a +1 base pad, so should hold 18 rounds. Nothing is really simple with these guns, as far as magazines go. There are 120mm-10 round mags, 126mm-14 round mags, 149mm-17round mags and 170mm mags that hold 20+. After that, you have +1 or +2 base pads, followers that will lock your slide back, followers that won't lock your slide back. Brands of internal components that will work in STI mags and others that will work in SV mags, not interchangably and so on. My best advice is to buy a few tunned mags, then figure out how to tune the one the gun comes with if you want to play with something. There is a very good link here at Enos.com covering basic mag tunning. My stock magazine would not feed too well, but after following the directions on the link, it feeds great. Now, the Basic pistol. My gun is not "tuned". But thus far, I have found two things that I have had to do to it besides cleaning and blowing all the gunk out of it. The first thing I did was to center the front sight. STI says they should be centered. I did this with a small brass punch and a few taps of a light hammer. Before I did this, and at the suggestion of STI, I put a few drops of Loctite in the dovetail. They suggested red or green, I had blue. The second thing I did, and that was purely because it is too windy out to spray weeds, was to really polish the feed ramp. Again, I followed the directions on a link in this forum. I went to an automotive store and purchased some 800 and 1200 wet or dry and went to work. I did add one step, using the all powerful dremel to buff the feed ramp, but was careful to maintain the direction of rotation the same as the sanding. What I have is a mirror finish that oil actually beads on. The final thing I did, was to bevel the edges of the inside of the grip to match the STI metal magwell. In reload drills, I was catching those edges. I did not do the front, just the sides where the nylon stuck out farther than the metal. At this time, my pistol is very accurate, and feeds ammo. Now I just need to put a lot of rounds through it. Now it's your turn. Could someone add any "nessary" must do items to these pistols? I am not talking all the fancy add ons, just what I should do to go to a match and have fun with it. When a gun has its action "tuned", what do they really mean? How important is changing out the stock extractor to a Aftec? What about ejectors, mainsprings, the nut behind the grip? Thanks for any advice and corrections. Good Shoot'in, WG
  14. What have you been shooting? Derek @ Millennium Custom does a great job.
  15. Oh yea, I knew that, good point. I was not sure about the case and OAL. OP was looking at a 9mm, as he had lots of brass. I just buy 9mm by the case, so it is not as bad as it could be pricewise, but I will reload .40 S&W. 45er, would would you consider a .40, or do yo really want to stay with 9mm (and there is nothing wrong with that). I am not allowed to like anything else for a while, I have a new STI Edge in the safe, and I love the Glock, but would really like to look at a CZ-75TS, you know, as a backup for the Glock.. Good Shoot'in, WG
  16. The CZ's are pretty cool. I think the latest FrontSight says they are the winningest pistol in IPSIC production everywhere in the world except here in the US, but would have to check that. The XD's are good guns. The Smith's seem to do pretty well too. The Glock will just run. You can do so much to a Glock, and there are so many good accessories available. Parts are easy to get. That is a tough call. I shoot a G34 in Production, but would really like to try a CZ's SA/DA trigger. There is a good argument for either the striker fired or the SA/DA autos. I think that as mentioned earlier, it really depends on how serious you want to get. You can take some guns and shoot both, but being limited by only shooting minor velocity in Limited is the pits, but shooting major velocity in Production is too. There are also some mods you can do to a Limited gun that you can't in Production, like a magwell, some trigger jobs, etc.. It also depends on your style. I think I would (actually this is what I did) plan on starting in production with the 9mm that you like to shoot, then you can just stuff more in the mags and shoot Limited/minor, then get a dedicated Limited gun if you plan on sticking to it. I would not try to load 9x19 up to major, actually, I am not sure how that works, is it a different case, can you even do it safely? That would mean a longer chamber too, wouldn't it? I really do not know. I really would like to try a CZ for grins. IDPA is pretty limited so make sure your gun is suitable under their rules along with those acceptable for USPSA Production. Don't be afraid to find one you like shooting,ie. borrow or ask to shoot at the range, and if your local shop doesn't have what you are looking for, check out gunbroker.com. You can register, buy, and have it shipped to your FFL (they have a list of transfer agents, or ask your local shop if they will accept a transfer for you). I always try to support my local stores first, but there are a lot of good sellers on sites like gunbroker. Wow, that was long winded for no real help at all! Glock would be my first choice, but if you don't like it now, you probably won't like it later. Just get something you enjoy shooting and have fun. Good Luck, Gene
  17. DMAC, I have shot Cowboy Action. Like every other sport, it has its ups and downs, good and bad. It is all about who you shoot with. I love to shoot, and if I am shooting with a good group of honest, good, fun competetors (sp.), it doesn't matter what the game. WG
  18. Hey buddy, you just can't get rid of me, can ya! LOL!

  19. Well I'll be dang, a cowboy shooter lurking around an IPSIC site. Your Pal, WGH
  20. I feel your pain. There is a fair amount on youtube. STI has some videos on their website. I sure agree with you. I can take down my G34 in about 2 minutes, but the STI is a bit different. If you didn't get some sort of owners manual with it, you can probably download one on the STI website or call them and have one sent to you. Other than that, I have found this to be about as good a reference there is. You can also go to many of the custom builders and accessory manufacturers web sites and they have videos on these things. Sure do shoot nicely compared to the Glocks, don't they.. WG
  21. Chris, this was on www.hosercam.com: "I am no longer making or selling Brass Master Double Stripers. I am no longer making or selling HoserCam systems. I will continue service and repairs until October 2008." That is too bad, it looked like a really good deal. Thanks to everyone that has answered. A Sharpie it is. Gene
  22. I have seen guys that will paint or mark their brass so that after a stage, theirs can be identified for return to them. What is the best way to do this? I have seen stuff that is red or maybe black across the head, but what do they use to do this? Paint could gum up the action or breechface, maybe even the fireing pin, if you use the wrong stuff. What kind of paint would work? Will a marker work? Fingernail polish? What do you guys use? Is it better left alone? Thanks for your thoughts. Gene
  23. Hey, I got the PM. I mailed the video today. Tell us what you think about it. Good luck with the boys. Gene
  24. See, whadItelllYa? Now, Fogetabowdit.
  25. Ya know what's really funny, I went to Germany with my wife a few years back to look at horses, and there were no Hitlers in the phone books either!
