  1. Ok just to follow up in case anyone is interested....STI Sent me a shipping return label for my gun as I stated I was having the problems listed above. It took about 5 weeks for the gun to come back to me, I received it today just as I was about to walk out the door for work. They stated that they replaced and fit a new frame to the slide, fit a new slide stop and installed the EGW full length guide rod and reverse plug that I sent with it. The gun is very tight now and the slide moves freely with the new guide rod and spring. I didn't have time to check the barrel to see if they replaced it or not since it had dings and that bur on it but I will as soon as I get home. I will follow up later this evening but everything seems to be good to go and customer service was very easy to deal with. Update # 2...after breaking down the gun tonight it seems they replaced the frame, safeties, grip safety etc with a new one, fit the egw full length guide rod and plug, fit a new slide stop, fit a new barrel & either gave me a new slide or reblued the one I had because there are no wear marks on it from where my holster had rubbed the top of the slide. So if there is anything that is not new its the slide only. The gun is very tight as I previously stated and looks brand new, which it just about is. Great experience with sti!
  2. I have always used federal small pistol primers but now that i cant find any what other primer would be best to get? I was thinking either winchester or cci but have heard the cci can be hard to ignite. I use a tanfo stock 2 and have a custom 2011 coming soon...i also shoot sti trojan in ss.
  3. from the nitemares that i have read regarding eaa i would not order from them. either order from eric directly, which his shipping charge is not too high for overseas, or from shooterready.biz which is jim bodkin's website and he is a good guy as well. he usually has most of eric's stuff in stock.
  4. If youre going to build one get a hybrid, long dust cover like the edge but cut down a little bit. Its longer than a short dust cover and shorter than a long dust cover. and i personally think it looks better too. Thats what i am having built by mcg.
  5. The subject of this thread is: "Brand New Edge, this is what $2,200 pays for?". He got a bad example of STI's usually decent work. I am sure they will make it right, but everyone who has chimed in saying that he should have gotten a SVI is comparing apples and oranges. I am not sure why everyone is comparing STI and SVI. They can't be compared in quality or price. I look at the classifieds about 40 times a day on average and I have been doing that for about a year and a half...not once have I seen a new SVI gun sell for $2,200. I don't thank that anyone on these forums thinks that STI is superior to Infinity. However, people like myself buy an STI pistol because we can scrounge up $1,800 - $2,200 for a pistol and maybe another $300-$400 for magazines. When it is all said and done we are close to $3K when we can finally show up and play this awesome sport. To do the same thing with an SVI would be $4,000 - $6,000+ for just the gun? Add another $150+ per mag and you are talking at least two if not three times as much money to play the same game. I like my Mazda 6, but I know a Mercedes S Class is a nicer car. Problem is, I cant afford an S Class, so I bought a Mazda and it gets me where I want without fail. My STI Eagle is the same way. It isn't as pretty as an SVI and it might not run as smooth, but if I want to play this game (and I do) then I have to go with a solid gun at the price I can afford. Exactly this....i was thinking the same thing. plus you can get an sti now at just about any time. you have to wait almost up to or over a year for an svi/infinity. at least thats what i was told by infinity when i was looking to buy. hopefully the op will respond to his own thread soon.
  6. I have found this to be true as well. I know my stock ii has a shorter reset than my shadow. Unless he has the srts installed but then again the reset isnt that far off from it either.
  7. Sti customer service is good to go. I bought a used edge off another forum and it had some things that needed to be repaired. they sent me a label without question and are taking care of it for me. cant beat that! Has the OP ever updated this thread?
  8. yes depends on bullet profile...my stock ii doesnt like 147s whatsoever but i am now using 124gr xtreme round nose bullets and i am loading out to 1.145 i believe. I even tried 124 gr flat nose bullets and it doesnt like those either. so i am sticking to the round nose bullet profile.
  9. I have a large frame stock 2 and I handled erics stock 3 which is small frame I believe and they felt different to me. I prefer the large frame as it just felt better and there seemed to be enough room for my hands to fit comfortably. The stock 3 grip felt very similar to the cz spo1 shadow.
  10. i used the little long shim looking things. put the thick part on the bottom of the mag holders and the spacer over it and they work fine.
  11. Yeah Kevin WAS one of my first options but he is no longer at ussa or taking new orders there. I know Mike personally amd have looked at and shot his guns made by Kevin and they are excellent to say the least. My final decision was to go with Matt Mclearn to do my build. It was over my original budget but I moved a few things around to get what I wanted the first time around. He should be starting on mine pretty soon and I hope to have it in a few months. I'll post it up when I get it.
  12. The sear spring was a bit tough for me to get back in as well but i just used a punch to push it in and held it in place. I used another punch as a slave pin once i got it in and then just put the pin back in as i pulled the punch out. I have a two piece sear
  13. Ok...gotta bump this thread instead of starting a new one. My slide is hanging up as well after replacing the recoil master with a full length guide rod and a 12.5# spring. I took it over to a buddy's house last night to try and see what was causing the problem. He thought it was this exact problem, however when we tried his two other guide rods with the relief cuts in them, it still binds up....we did the sharpie test and saw that thebottom of the guide rod, that faces the frame, was rubbing but couldnt figure out why or how. The barrel link was also messed up and had a chip in it and would not rotate all the way down. The barrel also had some gouge marks from, ehat sti said, is the old recoil master design hitting against the barrel link section. I dont know if that is part of the problem or not? I've contacted sti to see what they thought and they said the same thing about the guide rod and relief marks....but obviously that is not the problem. I've responded to their email about trying the other guide rods with the relief marks and it still binding up but have not heard back from them again yet. Any ideas?
  14. shooterready.biz jim bodkin...ive got to feel some of his personal guns and the triggers are awesome. hes a good dude and a good shooter too!
  15. I think its also an issue with having a more affordable comparable gun, namely, the CZ SP01 shadow.Prior to the extreme versions and parts, my understanding is that virtually everyone believes the CZ has a superior trigger. That, plus the fact that it is half the price of the stock 2 is why Tanfo aren't quite as popular. But, it depends what game and what division you're talking about. Are we talking price points in canada or u.s.?
  16. Tried Andolini's and Trails End. Honestly, I'm no judge of pizza or 'cue, but I enjoyed both meals. Trails End - corrugated tin walls, ads for home insurance and the local personal injury lawyer on the tables, pictures of Johnny Cash and the Duke on the walls, GrandMa calling you "Dearie" as she takes the order, and sides and dessert in styrofoam cups. Andolini's with a wall dedicated to (the owners?) service in Viet Nam. I liked both: place, people and food.eta: also hit Oktoberfest Friday afternoon. Too cold and wet and too early for beer. Bet it will be jumping Saturday night. Glad you tried them out...we went to andolinis afterwards today. Just finished up before the cold and rain hit.
  17. Everything looks good at the range. the bays are in great shape, may be a little cool in the mornings...luckily i'm shooting pm/am/pm.
  18. Thanks Paul!!! I am looking forward to the videos as I am shooting the same schedule as the ss and cant watch grauffel actually shoot.
