consensus on electronic ear muffs?
toothandnail replied to MetropolisLake's topic in Miscellaneous BEginners
My son and I started with Caldwells, I think on sale $28.00, 7-8? years ago, they still work fine. However the "rubber" ear pieces are getting stiff/brittle feeling, once they warm up they are soft again. Now those are the "extra" ones around the shop. We use the HL Sport as mentioned above, very nice. -
Anyone ever try an "ambi" bolt handle?
toothandnail replied to dcloudy777's topic in Shotgun - Technical
Yes, we're right in the midst of them. Actually had one stop in yesterday wanted to know if I could get him a Cooper rifle(I'd never heard of them) he knew quite alot, $2500.00+ for the one he's wanting. -
You don't have to spend a TON of $$, I have a "Franken" gun cost under $700.00 + optic (Burris). It has served me well for 5-6? years, I did change the trigger when the factory one wore out, should have done that earlier.. I'm NEVER gonna win my class at a major match(I'm usually in the top 5 at small ones) so why waste $$ on a rifle(any gear) that MAY at BEST, move me up a spot or two, Buy AMMO and practice, when you can OUT SHOOT your gun, you WON'T have to buy another, you will have won SEVERAL at matches to chose from.

With respect that is a whole different crowd in attendance. I have no problem with LEO matches being run hot and they are up here. In standard match open to the public no way. Again you have to plan around the lowest common denominator. If your match rules allow a brand new shooter to complete you have to plan your safety rules around them. Now THAT's funny No offence to the LEO's here, cause most likely your pretty compentent, but

Not a problem at any match I've been to.

What Red Dot for 3 Gun?
toothandnail replied to Gentleman4561's topic in Multi-gun Gear & Accessories
Man , that brings back memories . . . My FIRST, 3 gun match, I had a 4-6? MOA dot, the long range stuff, ALL I could see was the flasher FRAME , no idea where the target was. Also shooting an AK47 , still placed like 66 out of around 120. -
Well, the cops actually stopped a "suspicious" car in the area the night before (while investigating another burgulary call) . There were 2 girls in it who "claimed to be there to pickup their boyfriends who had been in a bar fight". Yeah right , 15 miles from the nearest bar , AND in the middle of Amish country. And they were about 50 miles from their home. Anyway, they got to thinking about that stop, and went back , pulled their info, called the sheriff in that county, they stopped by with our deputies. Who immeaditly recognised the guns, as they are buying the SAME ones for SWAT . The scumbags, actually laughed , and said "You can't arrest us we only stole from Amish, they won't press charges". HA HA , think again DIRTBAG ETA; we got them back a day or two after .

What Red Dot for 3 Gun?
toothandnail replied to Gentleman4561's topic in Multi-gun Gear & Accessories
I like the Eotech XPS, I had good luck out to 300, did a few matches out to 500, then I got a 5x maginifier that helped ALOT. Now I shoot open use a Burris FF3, and 1-4x -
is camo clothing frowned upon at matches?
toothandnail replied to Sandbagger123's topic in Miscellaneous BEginners
For the same reason that people who wear football jerseys that aren't players, or flannel that aren't lumber jacks... Or cowboy hats/boots. Its something that works or they like. Let it go man. Galaxy Note II + Tapatalk 2 But . . .But . . . But. . . . . . . .THAT'S different Right on, The guys who make fun of what others wear at a match are most likely the same guy who wore a Micheal Jordan(insert other name here) jersey every day for several years -
3-gun lights, lasers and lessons learned
toothandnail replied to Colodrew's topic in Multi-gun Gear & Accessories
Every nite shoot I've done, max distance was under 50yds . . . . . HA HA , I thought this guy knows what he's talking about, and quoted without looking who posted, he DOES know, he's my son A TOTAL dark shoot is a BLAST, the only white light allowed is the shooter, AFTER the buzzer, and for reset. Please do not bring your ultra tactical 1000 lumen light and shine it on everyone while resetting, you'll ruin their night vision, and they WILL want to shoot you. It's best if the match is limited to white for the shooter ONLY, everything else is red or blue. BTW where is this match ? I'm ready for another. ETA; Around here the reason for under 100yds is, the humidity comes up at night, causing near impossible to see 100yds, think, car-fog-high beams -
I've got 3 CA legal 10's for a G17, back when I bought my gun CA guns were all that was available. I would trade , buuut . . . . . . . . . . . . .

how do family men deal with competitions?
toothandnail replied to MetropolisLake's topic in Miscellaneous BEginners
NO matter what FAMILY FIRST, I did virtually nothing for quite a few years while my 4 kids grew. they all turned out great. 3 married , 1 promised. Now my son and I shoot together, which in a few years that will change as his kids arrive. My 3 daughters husbands/boyfriend are also some of my best friends , we ALL do alot of stuff together -
Question on ammo, rules say no steel jacketed ammo Does Wolf , Brown Bear, Herters, Tula, etc fall into that category ? From my understanding it is a BiMetal jacket, it IS magnetic. SO FAR none of the matches I've shot had a problem with it, just wanted to be SURE before arriving here. Our steel plates at home have , who knows how many rounds of this ammo with no damage.
