  1. As I mentioned in another topic, we are putting on a First Shots seminar this weekend. I need a short video clip of a SASS stage being shot to insert in our Power Point presentation. Preferably it would be from a major match where everyone was really "decked out". Thanks in advance. Tim
  2. The Tyler Parks and Rec Department has a program called "Expand Your Horizons". We host several classes every year from cooking to kayaking at a nominal fee for anyone that is interested. I approached our PARD Director last fall about hosting an NSSF First Shots Seminar and he said to go ahead and try to put it together. BJ & I had talked to Cyndi Dalena, the First Shots coordinator, at Steel Challenge last summer so I gave her a call and started the process. The City of Tyler will host a First Shots seminar this Saturday. This event has been made possible by a number of people. The local indoor range, Lock & Load, has donated their classroom and range time. BJ, Kyle & I will be the instructors. In most cases NSSF through a sponsor, will provide enough .22 caliber loaner guns for the class. Unfortunately there were several other seminars this weekend and all the loaner guns were spoken for. BJ called Chet Alvord at Tactical Solutions and without even having to think about it, they are sending us approximately ten of their guns at their expense for the seminar. We hope that this will become at least an annual event for the City. We have had a good response with several family groups signing up. It is great to work in a city that is willing to support the shooting sports when so many are trying to sweep us under the carpet.
  3. I went back through this thread with all the talk about OL over the past couple of weeks. I found it interesting that in the past four years the time for this stage has been cut by over a second. If you going to be competitive on OL now you better be shooting times consistently under 4.00 seconds on each run. I think most of the SS is now shooting the stage 1,2,4,3,S
  4. Kyle, This is from the 2000 Steel Challenge Rules under Movement Seems to be pretty clear cut.
  5. Here is a video that shows the movement in Outer Limits. 2007 Steel Challenge
  6. Kyle, You may be right in the technical sense and that is probably one of the rules that needs to be refined. This is from the Steel Challenge match book: "Handguns permitted for STOCK SERVICE PISTOL division must be Double Action, Double Action ONLY, or Safe Action and be of 9mm or larger caliber..." IMPORTANT! The IDPA Divisions shall be governed by IDPA rules for basic firearm and holster description and rule interpretation. We have only been going for the past three years, but I have yet to see anyone being inspected for holster type or position, belts, or any boxes or scales. Maybe we just call it Stock and adopt Production holster rules since they are more inclusive.
  7. What Shred is saying is if you can hit the #2 gong at 35 yds leaving the box and #4 12" plate at 20 yds while entering the box you will most likely set a new record and the 1/2 step isn't going to matter.
  8. But your "Production" gear would fit nicely in IDPA Stock and I would bet a "B-class" USPSA shooter would finish high enough to have a good pick off of the prize table. Take a look at the 2007 Results
  9. This one is a hard sell. It's my wife's birthday and Mother's Day weekend, but I think we'll be there.
  10. I think some people are confusing the idea that since USPSA purchased Steel Challenge it is now a USPSA match. It is not, what it is and it will hopefully always be is a Steel Challenge match. Textron is a good example. Textron owns Cessna and Bell Helicopter. They both fly, but they can't be built under the same rules. Textron also owns EZ Go Golf Carts and Jacobsen Turf Equipment. All of these entities are owned by the same company, but they work under different manufacturing rules. Don't go screwing around with SC, it is the most succesful pistol match there is. I have yet to see a USPSA match where sponsors were willing to put up $30,000 for a "winner take all" promotion. If you don't like the rules, just take a pass and don't participate. The last place prize package at last year's Steel Challenge was worth between $300-$400 and there will still be guns deep into the finish.
  11. What surprised me is that he is just using bad technique for that gun: on a single stack gun (with no funnel-mouth magwell) you really have to rotate the bottom up slightly and guide the mag down from above so you can see the opening of the magwell. On the double-stacks which have a tapered top magazine you can just ram them in blind from below as he was trying to do, because the taper at the top will nearly always go in. SS mags have to line up exactly or they catch an edge and hang up. It almost looked like he forgot the gun he was shooting was a single stack and was using the wrong technique. Maybe if you call TJ up and offer him a lesson, he'll take you up on it
  12. If it is in the normal time frame it will be the third weekend in August which is the 14th-17th.
  13. Brian, Welcome to TX. BJ & I will look you up at the next Tyler match. Tim
  14. Chuck, Vince answered the question here
  15. From the USPSA website: 13. 2008 World Shoot team slots will be offered to members in the following order: a. The three highest ranked competitors based on qualification points. Selection will continue in descending qualification order until three team positions have been formally accepted. b. The 2008 National Champion in each division or category will be offered the number four position on the corresponding team only if the following prerequisites have been met: 1. Entered in the 2008 IPSC World Shoot 2. Necessary firearms permits submitted This is from the "Official" WS XV website: DEADLINES Official team nomination closes - May 30, 2008 The deadlines quoted above are final, No Exceptions There is definitely a conflict here, especially in the light of our Nationals not being set yet. Will the number 4 member still be "on the bubble" if our Nats fall after May 30?
  16. Did you catch Dick Metcalf hosing the ground in front of the popper in the segment about the Taurus?
  17. Gary, Bruce, Rob, & Alan, Thanks for your input. As I stated earlier, this can be good for each discipline. My concern was trying to turn SC into something it wasn't. By keeping Mike & Mike involved I believe this will be a smooth transition and a major turning point and great long term business decision for USPSA. For those that have never tried the SC format, don't complain about not having the challenges of USPSA courses of fire. Steel Challenge is as pure a shooting test as you will find. I will join Troy in offering to do anything I can to make this a success. Edited to include Alan (who probably is more familiar with the SC than anyone on the BOD except Mike Voight)
  18. I hope this turns out well for both sports, however I have some real questions on logistics. USPSA bylaws will have to be revised in order to handle the administration of this match. Will this be another match that is managed at the sole discretion of the President? Part of the draw of Steel Challenge is that it is always the third weekend in August and has always been at Piru. Will USPSA now begin to move dates and locations? Steel Challenge is a shooting "event". We were overwhelmed the first time we went and could not belive the atmosphere. There are very few ranges that can handle the total event. Eight bays for the main match, eight bays for practice, and another eight to ten bays for side matches and other events going on. If any of these things are cut out then the match suffers. The SC prize table and awards have been unbelievable in comparison with USPSA matches. Will SC pull money and recognition into USPSA or will USPSA drain money out of SC. These are just some of my observations having been involved in both sports.
  19. I think you misunderstood my point. I well aware of the "trickle down" effect that Nationals scheduling has on everyone, that is one of the reasons I ran for A4 Director; but out of the total USPSA membership, there is a limited number of shooters who actually compete above the club match level. That is neither good nor bad, just the way it is. The members on BE are for the most case the limited number of shooters that I am referring to.
  20. Jim, What I came to realize after the election is that the 340 are on this board and only a small representation of the membership at large. The majority shoot local matches and an occasional sectional. As long as their matches are run on a regular basis and they get classifier scores turned in, things are good. Not sour grapes, just a fact. A very small percentage of the total membership are worried about what happens at the national level.
