  1. I use the Possum Hollow to process range brss for my 55gr bulk/blaster reloads. I trim a little short so all cases will be at or under max. I don't expect match load precision with the possum hollow, but in reality the case length always falls withing the canular and the loads are at least as accuarate as cheap factory ammo. For match quality loads I trim each case with a hand case trimmer. My process: 1hr tumble (gets off the big dirt) lube, (inside the necks q-tip=TV time, then into a ziplock bag with some one-shot) full length size/deprime 1hr tumble/polish trim (Possum Hollow in a drill press) swage primer pockets (RCBS, if not my cases) Hand prime (TV time) charge and load on progressive As you know the Possum Hollow is not easy to adjust, I have only adjusted mine once. David E.
  2. I just noticed 3GN shooter profiles have just 40 shooters. Might these be the current PRO series shooters? David E.
  3. Note to self, pay some bucks to a lawyer ahead of time to make a deal with the court to pay them big bucks. 1980; Reckless driving/road racing, mandatory license suspension + $500 fine. $1500 to the lawyer, $1500 to the court = disturbing the peace. This was times 2 since the guy I was racing paid the same. Good thing we weren’t really racing!
  4. $40, must have just been a flesh wound. David E.
  5. I'm Lazy. Not that there isn't new ground to cover in 3 GUN but. If it were a good option the top shooters would be using it, they aren't. Easy answer: 1x- whatever. Now if you are only going to shoot matches out to 200 yards, maybe. David E.
  6. 10+1 Upside: - You can always plug if "capacity" is limited to 9(8+1). - Starting with 8+1, can reload 4 after only 2 shots. Gives you more flexibility in reloads vs. course design. - If you shoot/reload/count in 4s, even if I miscount by 1 or 2 shells, I usually have an extra round and won't go dry or room for a full 4/8 reload. - Less spring pressure/easier loading when at 8 rds in a 9/10 rd tube than in an 8 rd tube. Downside: - Heavier? A few more inches of alum tube? Really? - Longer gun, possibly harder to handle if forced to shoot close/barrel thru ports (back away from the barricad! and which is why I kept my +5 as an option) With the tube longer than the barrel/choke, I feel less bad when dumping the gun. Im still considering a 12+1 tube. David E.
  7. I have S3G trigger, I thought it was a single stage, what makes it a hybrid? It has some travel but I think the pull weight is constant. I removed most of the travel with a grip set-screw. My last trigger was a GI trigger with a bobbed hammer, JP yellow springs, and a grip set-screw. It was almost as "good" as the S3G. The S3G has the advantage of a light pull with a stronger hammer spring. David E.
  8. I took 300mg/day for about 6 months while recovering from a disc issue. I don't know if it affected my shooting because once I got off of it I didn't really remember much from the last 6 months. I had to ask my wife if I had been going to work and I asked her if I had been shooting, yes to both. Since I didn't get fired from my job, DQ'ed at a match or worse, I guess I was functioning OK. I will never take it again.
  9. Just wondering if anyone normally uses any settings in between 1X and Max? I basically use 1X out to 100 yds and go to 3x (Leupold CQT) for anything farther or requiring the BDC. Just seems like it would be slow to stop in between with little to no benefit? David E.
  10. I would guess this will change and 3GN will need at least 25 shooters to make up for losses in the PRO series. David E.
  11. I'm in. Registered for the AR15/RCOK match. To get 3 matches I counting on getting into FNH and the BRM3G matches. David E.
  12. Best 3 count, percentage converted to points, 75% = 75 points. David E.
  13. Gamer! Looks like I was wrong on this one. Doesn’t make sense unless like you said it is to give a bonus to PRO shooters. Should be open to all or none I say! Problem is what I want doesn't matter. Having it open to all shooters would give that “one match shooter” a chance to possibly bring home some bucks, unlikely but possible. Kind of a wildcard thing. David E.
  14. Not much different between a "PRO and PRO?" Looks like they thought it out pretty well. -You can only compete in one series; so a PRO level gamer cannot shoot PRO, SEMI-PRO, Divisional, amateur and collect prize money from each. - Rules are pretty clear; PROs can shoot the pro matches listed in PRO for scores to count. Semi-pro shoot matches listed in their series and must shoot in PRO at the AR15/ROCK match for it to count. AM can shoot the matches listed in their series and must shoot AM at the AR15/ROCK match for it to count. Per the current rules list on the 3GN site (not emails); to get in the qualifier for PRO you must finish in the top 25 of the SEMI-PRO series. David E.
  15. Hornady "Steel Match" 9mm, loaded with the Hornady Action Pistol bullets, 124gr, makes minor PF but not as hot as full power loads. under $20/50rds. http://www.hornady.com/store/9mm-Luger-125-GR-HAP-STEEL-MATCH http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/Hornady-Steel-Match-Pistol-9-mm-Luger-125-Gr-HAP-50-rds.aspx?a=862801&pm2d=CSE-SPG-3-GOOGLE&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cse David E.
  16. I don't think the "Divisional Series" let you have a chance at PRO; only semi-pro has a chance to compete for PRO. David E.
  17. Smooth, much improvement since your first vids. I would agree you are not keeping the gun high enough when reloading. Also, these 2 go together; 1. The gun is too far away when reloading; bring it in a little closer and 2. You don't seem to be rotating the gun far enough to "look" the mags into the mag well. It doesn't look like you would be able to see the inside edge of the magwell during your reloads? You seem to shake the gun to get the mags to fall out? If so, you can use a quick clockwise rotation to “flick” the mag out and end up with the gun in position to reload, one motion instead of 2. David E.
  18. I wonder what kind of numbers we are talking here? 1-2, 5-10, 20-50? How are these taken into account at registration? Seems like you would have to hold back X number of slots for these shooters? If 3GN really takes off=more sponsored shooters; registration for the average shooter could get harder and harder. Is there a better way to register? David E.
  19. I shot AM last year, my first big match: Pistol mags - 4 min, 2 on the belt, one in the gun (you might want to take advantage of magazine length limits and add an extended mag to the collection for your first mag on a stage, might save you a reload, depends on what you shoot. Slings not needed last year, would guess the same this year, rules/match info will specify before the match. Drop leg would be OK unless rules state otherwise. You would be better served with a strong side OWB belt holster with good retention. Optic, last year’s COF was doable with EOTECH or red dot, I would make sure I could hit 4 MOA at 200 yards with whatever sighting system you use. Rifle mags - 2 30rd mags will get it done, more is better. While not needed last year; being able to carry one mag on the belt for a reload would be good but a back pocket would work. I would focus on shotgun reloads, distance rifle, and make sure you know the rules, some important ones from last year: - Scoring, outlaw; 1 A/B upper, 2 inside the perf anywhere full credit (so 2 fast anywhere is the same as 2 in the lower A zone, don't waste time. - Par time, if you find you can't hit a certain target, long rifle for example, don't burn the entire par time shooting at it if other easier targets will be left standing such as close pistol target. David E.
  20. Link to app from the match web page http://www.rock3gun.com/files/Rock3Gun_App.pdf David E.
  21. 213 Pro I was concerned because of the "too early" msg! I guess I barely made it. David E.
  22. LB, Sprauge, http://www.spraguerodandgun.com/ has IDPA every second Sunday and a 3 gun every 4th sunday. The 3 gun is held on pistol bays and some times the 100 yd rifle range. In March they should start up thursday night IDPA matchs. Hope to see you there. David E. Waterford
  23. I’m hoping to compete in the Semi-pro series this year. The matches listed include the “FNH USA 3-Gun” on the main page: http://3gunnation.com/news/2012_3gn_outlaw_series But on the Semi-pro linked page the FNH match is NOT listed. Does anyone know which is correct, will the FNH match be part of the semi-pro tour? Assuming this match will be at the Glenary WV range it would be much more doable for east coasters to complete 3 matches with the 2 Rockcastle matches. Thanks, David E.
