  1. Got 1 Video uploaded. Stage #4?, long range rifle. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2aoYdJn9EU Pretty happy to have hit the 375-425 ish target on the second shot(last shot of the video). Thanks to Rob O. (Team Blaster) for helping me with my zero. Every now and then I think shooting "Trooper" would be cool, not so much after this stage. David E.
  2. I use one, I would say 2 finger/thumb tight using a normal length Allen wrench. The idea being that the torque is constrained by the length and thickness of the (Allen) key when a normal person uses it. I used Loctite 272 high strength - high temp (450) after having one screw back out. David E.
  3. Great Match, Shot it today (Sunday) just got home. It just started to rain on the last stage otherwise cloudy but nice compared to Sat. Thanks to all the match staff/cadets for putting on this match. They are probably still braking down and picking up brass. Thanks Again, David E.
  4. OK, I get it now, otherwise 1 or 2 stages could dictate the outcome. Makes since that way. Thanks, David E.
  5. "All time plus stage have 100p," % this, % that Maybe because I am/was mainly an IDPA shooter but I can't believe "Time Plus" isn't just: Time + penalties = low score wins. So even "Time Plus" is complicated! David E.

    8.3.3

    USPSA Rulebook, App A3, Glossary, pg 58. My link "Should . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Optional but highly recommended." Seems clear. David E.
  7. I started with a G34: - Polished the parts=a little smoother, not really lighter. - Wolff springs (with reduced power striker) = lighter trigger (doesn't like hard primers) - Went through 3-4 different disconnectors = Different feel. - After several years running the above I installed a well known after market trigger = different, about the same weight. The connector has a different profile/angle so the trigger feel was different. - Installed an over travel stop= not much difference for me as my trigger has significant pre-travel vs. over travel. My opinion is that the angle of the disconnector and the springs make the biggest difference. The KIT I have also relocated the "return"? spring in a new hole in the trigger bar and the trigger bar was bent at the spring mounting point. This combination may reduce pull. So if you have a G34 connector, polished parts, and reduced power springs: the trigger KIT I used was not earth shattering/much different. Using Federal Primers I never had a problem with light strikes. I have gone to a full power striker spring for reliability when shooting all types of ammo. So now when I hear someone says, “I installed “X” trigger and it is night and day (Awesome, Incredible, etc.) difference”, I think their trigger must have been bad/bone stock before. I would say these trigger KITs would show a big difference compared to a stock 19/17/etc trigger and would be an easy way to get a better trigger. I have tried (dry fired other peoples) several other triggers and while they feel different (more or less pre travel/over travel) I have not found the “1911” trigger yet. My advice, try someone else’s before you buy. David E.
  8. If the pay is better than the other gigs (matches) I've been working (for free) over the past years, I'm "all in"! "Nukes" are kind of particular about "rules" Can't wait for revenge on that long steel. David E.
  9. Limited-10 has both major and minor, so 125pf is fine. http://www.uspsa.org/rules/2010HandgunRulesProof3web.pdf Appendix D3, page 82 of the pdf. David E.
  10. Just some info/opinion from a guy who shot this match for the first time last year, which may be completely different this year: - I started with too much stuff! It looks like good weather this year so I'll have a small pack with: ammo, rangefinder, drink and snacks, maybe extra layer of clothes. Rifle, pistol, holster, mag pouches, ammo. You may be able to leave some ammo in your car and only take what you need for the stages where you travel by truck/haul your stuff. - Arrive, leave all your stuff in the car, register, haul all the registration stuff back to the car, get your shooting gear and stand by for the brief. You won’t want to haul all the registration stuff with you the whole match. - You travel by military truck to some of the ranges, strollers and buggies can be taken but it would be a pain (4' high deck, ladder to enter), travel light. - I will have a sling on my rifle for transportation only unless required by a stage. - Ranges 4-5 are where you park and are the "pit stop" area. Looks like awesome weather this year. Can't Wait! David E.
  11. This might be a hard sell, but mentally convince yourself that since you can hit the 300yd target you can hit anything you want closer. Otherwise, going in without the confidence that you can make the hits has already sunk you. Daniel Horner said in an interview that anyone can win (beat him) in a 3GN shoot-off but if the person he is shooting against goes in thinking they can’t beat him then he’s already won before the first shot. What you know: - The gun is accurate enough at 300 - There’s no way the bullet can be off 5-6" at 100 and tighten up that much at 300. (my opinion) The bright side: - Anything real close (<50yds) will be paper (IDPA) = 8” down zero and down 1 is huge. So you can score on these. - Anything far away (>50yd, most likely >100yd) is going to be steel, the match info says rifle steel will be: 1. MGM Flasher (10”cir+5”square on top), 2. Larue (12” wide x 24” tall), 3. Larue “auto reset”? Not sure what size the "Auto Reset" is but with either your 100yd or 300yd accuracy you can hit at least 2 of 3 of these no problem. Last year had MGM flashers out to 375. I'll be shooting Sunday. I don't believe in luck, but good luck anyway. David E.
  12. Dang it. Now it looks like I have to buy another gun and make my current 930 my back-up. Looks like the lifter hangs out of the reciever more than a turkey? That Price with 3 chokes, these will never be in stock. David E.
  13. I think opinions will vary greatly on this. I welcome accuracy over speed. Bring on the 4" plates at 25 yds! David E.
  14. Dang, I just loaded 1000 147 JHP Zero's with TG, chrono about 900-925 with Remington SPM primers. At 132 - 136 PF this is on the medium/hot side for minor. Any opinions if 1000 rounds of this will damage a G34? Not looking forward to pulling 1000 rounds. David E.
  15. I consider a gun in a cart, secure holster, or in a case to not be considered sweaping because the gun is not being "handled". Once a gun is in someones hands then I consider it sweaping. The shotgun shooters are the same where I shoot (loacl clubs), chamber open/chamber closed sweaping everything in sight, and is why I don't shoot with them. I don't even park near them. David E.
  16. I would guess with a barrel clamp near the end of the barrel/tube, you would be hard pressed to "bend" either the tube or barrel when dumping the gun. The chances of damaging the tip of the barrel/choke/choke tube/extended choke tube is more likely than damaging the cap on a Nordic mag tube. The barrel tip/chokes are pretty thin and open on the end compared to the mag tube cap. So I'm thinking I would rather have the mag tube take the hit when dumping the gun. Room for 10 in the tube is good, 12 is better in my book. David E. And beside all that I copy the winners.
  17. Is it me, or is the girl/lady the best shooter of the bunch! David E.
  18. I've been waiting all year for another "shot" at those 375 yard flashers (10" MGM if I remember correctly)! I expect a much different outcome this year! David E.
  19. 2 MOA at 200 yards is getten-er-done in 3 gun especially if you shoot a short sight radius gun with flip up irons and a fatty front post no less. If you fellas are knocking those down with regularity, I got to stay away from your club! David E.
  20. In preps for 3 GUN I patterned my SG with different chokes at different ranges; 10yds, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40. No real difference 10-15 yards between cyl and turkey XX full. 15 yards I started to see some differences. Just some info, you might be surprised if you pattern your SG at short ranges. They say all SGs pattern differently. I think if I really wanted a wide pattern up close I would go for the Taurus Judge set-up, birdshot out of a rifled barrel, I'm thinkin that would spread out! David E.
  21. I shot the AM match. I would not have wanted to shoot the SG stage with the hay bails and no-shoot steel plates with an 18 1/2" cyl bore. I was on the fence and almost went for an 1100 but after some research here about the 1100 and 930 I went 930. To each his own. David E.
  22. My bad, I thought we were talking Mossberg930 here, barrles about $180 new. No used/old ones in the desired lenght w/o ports around/ever made? David E.
  23. Not picking on you or anyone here, it seems like a no win, I can/could understand "PRO" shooters getting an invite based on their top finishes, I think they have earned it. I don’t think just because I clicked the mouse before Jerry M. that I should get into a match and he should have to sit it out. (not that I could out click him) But drawing the line would be hard, top 10? Top 50? Same with sponsors, I appreciate what they do for sure. I think they deserve some consideration when/if they request for someone form their organization get to shoot the match. Again, it's hard to draw the line on how many, is it tied to money? Without the sponsors we would be short on matches. If there are very few slots already "taken" by Sponsors then I applaud both the sponsors and the match organizers. I still think the true PROs need a special invite as long as it doesn't get out of control. I’m the first to admit, I have no new or good answers to the registration thing. I thought the "Mayor" always got a special invitation? David E.
  24. Most of the gas block mounted front sights will be the correct height for a detachable carry handle rear sight set up. Many irons shooter use the DPMS rear clamp on sight. I understand folding sights are not the best because of flex/movement unless you spend big cash. So fixed front and rear are the best bet. You would however have a short sight radius that would hamper you down the road/at longer ranges. What would I do having gone the irons to optic route? Buy a 1-3x Weaver and mount. Sight it in for 200yds if you only shoot out to 250 or so, 300yd sight in if you shoot farther and learn the holds. This would take you a long way in the 3 gun game. I would say that shooting irons enough to hit 2-3 MOA at distance will make you a better shooter all the way around and is worth some time/effort/ and money. David E.
  25. You asked the question, I was just answering. So the lottery idea seems pretty unpopular. The problem is it's already a lottery: Online - just the luck of the click gets you your spot, a lottery by any other name. Definitly NOT first come first served, too much luck (and world blocks, computers, internet speed) involved Mail/post mark - 300 apps post marked on the same day, 150 slots, put them in a bucket and pick out 150, sounds like a lottery to me. David E.
