  1. Well, I guess you don't...nonetheless. At least 2000 rounds on my 1911 (Approx 13k down the tube total) since it was last wiped down and over 3200 on a VP9 (I've never cleaned it) without cleaning...no problems thus far. Just a data point for you, feel free to clean your guns as much as you like.
  2. I've got a couple of ARs with thousands of rounds on them that have never been cleaned, a couple of pistols as well, no issues with any of them. I used to shoot then immediately clean, then I stopped and have had no issues. I'll wipe some guns down occasionally but when the crud builds up enough on them it just starts falling off so it seems pointless. Just keep em lubed and shoot until you start having problems.
  3. I've found that keeping the pistol more vertical helps with recoil management when shooting support hand only. Some people like canting the pistol as its more comfortable but (at least during quals) they tend to throw rounds on thier 2nd 3rd shots.
  4. Frank Proctor teaches a technique he calls "stirring the pot" you keep your elbows up and bent with the pistol a bit closer in than usual, walk or run as normal. It's kind of like what B. Enos was talking about carrying a glass of water. Basically the same concept, you already know how to walk and keep something stable while you do it.
  5. I just picked one up from another member here and it is incredibly impressive. Attention to detail is awsome. It's tight and the trigger is amazing. There is another guy at one of my local matches who shoots a 6" Cameron's and he has nothing but good things to say about it.
  6. I like the lines of your skeletonized hammer, old school.
  7. I had those same problems with a batch of reloads...not enough crimp.
  8. Wilson says for thier mags that leaving them loaded for a couple of days helps get them to their optimal operating tension. Seems like after that they stay set and only degrade from cycleing? My duty mags stay loaded all the time and only get cycled is at quals and they are fine.
  9. The times I've shot Ltd Minor have either gone really really well or really really not...
  10. I just had my pinned plastic mainspring housing replaced with a Dawson stainless one and now I'm hearing & feeling a rub (sounds like the mainspring?) when I cock the hammer? What gives? Sorry for the thread hijack...
  11. Sounds like I might want to invest in a chrono...thanks for all the input! I knew adding another pistol to the brace wasn't going to be as simple as just buying a new holster...
  12. I agree totally...its just they won't let me carry it at work. The VP40 is going away but I should probably shoot my issued pistola once and a while...stupid P2000...stupid Agency equipment procurement division.
  13. Thanks! Looks like I'm gonna have to do some "sperimentin'". Anyone have a good recipe for me? 180Gr Xtreme HP's over N320? Would it make since to buy another set of dies so I could keep my current training load and have another set up for the Ltd gun? I've got an extra tool head & powder hopper...
  14. I did some searches but didn't find anything that helps... I've been loading 4.3Gr of N320 with a Xtreme 180Gr HP at 1.12 OAL on my 650 for my duty gun (P2000) and a VP40 I've been useing for Ltd. I'm picking up a proper Ltd gun (Cameron's 5") this weekend and understand that they like a longer OAL. (The current owner says it runs well at 1.2-1.8). My question is if I only adjust the OAL do I need to add more powder to continue to make the same PF (major) / does increasing the OAL of a given load change the PF? I don't have ready access to a chrono to check... I'm new to reloading...be gentle. Thanks!

    VP40 w TF extentions 18?

Well, after thinking that the followers might be the ticket I grabbed my Dremel and went to work on the stock followers. I cut the rear "leg" off up to the height of the post in the middle where the spring attaches. Bingo, 18 rounds! Thanks for the inspiration. I'll see how they run, if there is any issues I'll order the Grams.

    VP40 w TF extentions 18?

I'll look into the Grahms follower, do you still get lockback on an empty magazine?
  17. Anyone able to get 18 rounds into thier VP40 / P30 magazines with the Taylor Freelance extentions? I'm getting 17 no problem and can stuff 18 in but it's really hard to seat...I tried shaving down the followers and it helped a bit but I'm not sure how far I can go on them without compromising reliability. I love the gun and have been running it in Ltd. but an extra round would really help making it a little more competitive. Giving up 2 rounds to the 2011's & Glocks isn't too bad but 3 seems to make a difference on some stages. Any ideas?
  18. I'm using the Rydons with the inserts and really like the combo. If (when) I trash the outer lesnses I can just swap them out inexpensively rather than having to replace the expencive prescription lenses.
  19. Thanks! I've got 2 BOSS hangers mounted on ELS so I can swap from SS to LTD easily but this might be more stable.
  20. How are you guys attaching the QLS to the belt? I have a Safariland ELS belt and the holes don't line up on the QLS, no problems with the ELS obviously...just re drill holes on the QLS?
  21. THanks for the info, I have some plastic polish that might work good. Ill try that before I do anything drastic.
  22. I run 6 on the belt. I use the 5th one back as a barney mag and insert the 6th one back to start the stage. That way I have 4 full mags for the stage on my belt and a 5th -1 round incase someone nails down one of the steel plates (I swear they do that sometimes) and I need some extra rounds or if I fumble a mag. There is an extra in my bag if I need it on one of thoes cruel non single stack friendly stages where you're reloading after a couple of shots to make sence of the thing.
  23. I just picked up some Wilson 47T (10 round) mags and have been having some issues with them. I loaded them up and let them sit for a week or so and took them out to test them after a match on Sun., they worked pretty good (2 ftf's but my gun was pretty dirty and a bit dry). When I got home I disassembled them and cleaned them. After reassembling the 9th round was tought to get in and the 10th was really hard to get in. What am I doing wrong? I've heard that the followers can use some work (600 grit sandpaper) to get them to run smooth. When I had the spring out the follower was not moving smoothly in the tube like my 47d's do. It feels like the follower is binding up when it is getting down to the bottom of the tube. Help...
