  2. I think if someone got "coached" to start with a "round in the hand" the world would quit turning.
  3. If anyone picked up one of those rolled up in a heap and never displayed Swarovski Optik banners out of the ditch on stage 6, I'd love to have one for my basement. PM me.
  4. Clamp on gas blocks are reliable and secure. The clamping force they have on the gas block seat is enormous. Many (most) 3gunners use them. Ever see any serious 3gun rifles up close? Dings dents, scratches, etc...it doesn't get much more "hard use" than 3gun. Don't believe everything you read on arfcom. Zombies are not going to grab your gas block during a firefight and pull it off.
  5. I have a 17" barrel. Do you think that a 14" PRI hand guard would cover a PRI adjustable gas block? Will it look good? :unsure:Maybe you or someone have a picture of this setup? I can’t decide on which to buy the 14” or an ordinary 12”. 14" will cover a the gas block for sure.
  6. Shhhh! I like it that most of the competition uses cheap ass walmart bulk ammo. We had 7 or 8 Benelli's on our squad. All ran 100% from what I witnessed. There was a Browning(?) of some kind on our squad that had a bunch of issues.
  7. I've run 14" and 15" PRI tubes on a bunch of barrel lengths (16"/17"/18"/20"). I would not run a 15" PRI tube with a 16" barrel. The brake is recessed and it'll hurt your hand if you hold around the end of the tube.
  8. A lot of the information on shoot/clean/shoot/clean break-in MAY have some merit in certain circumstances as much of it was pioneered in the benchrest crowd. Those guys chase every last bit of accuracy possible down to levels that borderline on the insane. The sum of a hundred small things adds up to a superbly accurate rifle. They also spend incredible amounts of time on case prep and bullet sorting by weight and length from base to ogive, etc, etc. They also clean their barrels at very short intervals, after 20-40 rounds many times. For 3gun purposes, I think it's pretty pointless spending tons of time (and throat life by over cleaning) going after that negligible increase in accuracy. 3gun is VERY hard on barrels. For instance, a ~20 second long 50 round rifle stage....benchrest guys would faint at the thought. Or what about those four 30rd mags you just dumped in hoser training on paper? Or that long range stage that has a bank of 300-500 yard tagets that you got locked in on and went through a couple mags trying to hit? These activities destroy the throat in your barrel at a high rate which is one of the most critical aspects in overall accuracy. For 3gun, I'd say get a quality stainless barrel that has its bore lapped to a mirror shine, develop an accurate load (100 yard, 10 shot group, ~3/4") and spend the balance of your time practicing and not cleaning.
  9. Yeah the 14" Benelli's aren't threaded for chokes and are cylinder bore....so most steel targets are going to laugh at you. However, if the match allows, run Federal Flight Control #4's or 00 buckshot and you will have no problems.
  10. Yes you can use them in semi auto. You'll be way under classed as you mentioned. Be aware that in many stages you will have to dump your guns into barrels and such. That might be a bit off-putting to do with a $12K M16.
  11. What is the proposed shooting distance to the 4x4 post for the team event?
  12. Mine Larue mounts are snugged up extremely tight. They don't dig into the receiver at all. Larue puts a silvery grease on the contact points to aid lock/unlock. Some people mistake the grease for wear though the anodizing.
  13. Different shooting positions will have slightly different POI. The rifle recoils differently in each position and effects POI. Shooting rock solid with a bipod and rear bag versus all wobbly off the top edge of a barrel...no surprise at all that you have a different POI. Usually the POI difference is not enough to shove your shots off the 3 MOA targets we shoot in 3gun. It may push them to an edge though.
  14. Last year's long rifle shots were 525 and 600 yards on e-type steel targets. 10" metalman flash targets on most everything from 150 to 400 yards. They had slugs on steel at about 110 yards last year as well.
  15. I've been running a 20" stainless barrel most of this year. It's a lot heavier than what most people run. The barrel weighs 51 ounces by itself.
  16. I've tried .215, .225, .235, and .245 with the Sevigny rear. The .235 works the best for me.
  17. The Metalman flashers are super compact. Which is great for easy transport if you don't have your own range and have to tear them down when you are done shooting.
  18. I agree. If it had daytime illumination you'd see them used all over the place in 3gun. Good reticle selection. Extremely durable. Not super expensive.
  19. 2011 Blue Ridge Tac Scope top ten results.... 1 HORNER DANIEL (Swarovski Z6i) 2 JOHNSON ROBBY 3 ROMERO ROBERT 4 BERNSKOETTER RUSTIN (Swarovski Z6i) 5 PIATT BRUCE 6 TIELKE JASON 7 BLIZT HENRIK (Swarovski Z6i) 8 PARKER JEREMY (Swarovski Z6i) 9 LAKER KALANI (Swarovski Z6i) 10 GIBSON TRAVIS
  20. I just hand tighten my brakes with a couple drops of red loctite. A wrench will still get it off no problem but it'll never move otherwise. Over tightening a muzzle device is generally a bad deal.
  21. Guns that are heavy generally don't hop around as much when fired. It's kind of a good thing.
  22. Run a 20". Use one of the JP front sight bases so you don't have pin anything to the barrel. You are right, a front sight mounted to a free float rail is not a good idea.
