  1. Okay...but I'm asking how it got there in theory and why and how it may or may not apply to other levels of matches...Who decides and based on what? (I think we hit the enter key about the same time)
  2. Okay...so what makes the "back to back" nationals seperate matches? Is it that they are shot on differen days for logistic reasons? Did someone along the way just decided that they would be? Is there lattitude within a club to desiginate "seperate" matches? (I think this was the first year that the stages were changed (?) from one to the other and my understanding they were only slight changes?) Is that what makes them seperate?
  3. So your position would be if the shooter in my scenario paid an additional entry fee, they could again compete but in a different division? Or for that matter the same division?
  4. When is a Match a Match? Having just completed the “back to back” Nationals makes me ask this question and caused me to review the rule book for some sort of answer. What I found is it’s really not defined all that well. 6.1.3 says a match must have 2 stages. 6.2.1 says each match must recognize at least one division. So I guess the answer is 2 stages and 1 division? However this brings us back to the Nationals. Did we just have one match or two (or three if you include the SS earlier this year) or for that matter 5? Did we have the “Nationals” or did we have Limited/L10/Rev Nationals match and then the Open/Production Nationals match? Where I’m going with this is the question of disqualification. If a shooter registered in two divisions, one each side, were to DQ say in Limited, does that follow him/her to the other side of the “match” say in Open? After all, 10.3.1 says “…..will be prohibited from attempting any remaining courses of fire in that match……” Is it up to the Match director to determine just what the match will be? Can a MD recognize each division a separate match? So the bottom line question is, if your club is holding a big match that shoots over a couple of days, can a shooter who DQ’s in one division, come back and shoot a different division because it’s considered a “different” match? After all, 2 stages, 1 division. And for the record, I say no.......just curious on others thoughts.
  5. Ahh....Ft. Wayne. My early days were from around Huntington and Angola. Hope to see you and yours at a match soon...good luck.
  6. Back when I was shooting an XD40, when I got hyped I'd squeez the grip so tight the mag wouldn't drop. I had to tell myself to relax my grip during the reloads.
  7. I would say stay with what you know for awhile. Your first season is going to be dedicated to learning your area, the rules, the people, and what you like. Get a feel for what works for you best before you invest. May save you money, time and some frustration in the short term. After all, you're in it to have a good time ... let that develop and start working on serious competiton for next season. Dave
  8. ...a 19mm case is only 0.74 inches long.....
  9. Yeah I think we're on the same page. With 7 rnds they go in pretty "normal" at least what I'm used to. The mags are all pretty new so think I'll start off with the suggestion of loading them up for a couple of days. They drop free just fine so it's not a rubbing issue although it's always good to polish the darn things. Guess what I was really looking for are there was any thoughts about after market springs and/or base pads. ....but don't worry, I give him plenty of crap about missing a reload here and there. That's what dads do....
  10. This and have big base pads and tell him to MAN UP! Oh....well that's a given.....
  11. I shoot open but my son took up SS .... he LOVES the 1911 .... so this makes me new to the division myself. He's doing great and the gun is running perfect. However I notce the mags (when loaded to 8 rnds) are really hard to seat so I'm looking for ways to make that last couple of MM's easier. Two things that come to mind are: * clip a couple of coils off the mag spring * tune the mag catch slot on the mag It's a Kimber Target II and using Wilson mags (no mods/standard spings & followers) Any ideas?
  12. Just watched a guy fit alum grips....what a pain. I suppose if it's not done right and end up with stress points, they're gonna crack....
  13. I vote for the C-More and Quinn II
  14. Well, there is no "quick answer" to that question. I figure out new things about classification calculations each time I have one posted....good luck
  15. Great post. You need to re-post this about every 4 months or so so the newbie's can get this information. I know I know.....it can be researched but how's a newbie gonna know that.
  16. Welcome to the forum and Area 5......
  17. I shot my HK USP compact for about a year when I first started. About 7000 rounds worth and got very good with it which was my intent both for the gun and me....however as I got more "into" the sport I found the DAO/short barreled gun wasn't competitive so at the time I switched to an XD ..... ticked out. As to why we don't see the longer versions of the HK, not sure. Certainly a reliable gun and accurate.
  18. Being by Jims side during Area 5 and around him the 5 months prior I can vouch just how much time and effort he put into the match a few weeks ago. I tired to convince him a second year would not be near as bad as a big part of the work/planning would be done. However it does seem to make sense to take a year off, pass it along and then put on another great show in 2012. Jim my hat is off to you and you can bet I'll keep pressing you in two years.....
  19. ....and thanks for all the input. At least it seems to be between a couple....
  20. Chrono's faster? Wanna explain that?
  21. I found it very ironic that at area 5 (both this year @ Polo and last year at Michigan) the chrono was two CED set up in tandom, the RO shouted out the higest of the two, but then when he figured the average, he took it off only one chrono box rather than doing the math by hand. Go figure. What's the point of two?
  22. Put the Sidewinder in a vise, heat it up, flatten it out. Works like a charm. 5 min max solution.
