  1. Seems schuemann gets a vote here. I shoot a Wilson in my Millenium Custom and my GF shoots a Schuemann. I can shoot much tighter groups with her Schuemann however it's one with three poppels. Shoots flat and accurate but loud as H#*@....... No thoughts out there about the Trubor?
  2. Building/having built a new open gun. Any opinions about which is the most accurate barrel out there. Thought about going with the Trubor....

    Compensators

All I know is I just swithched from 7625 to Shillouette cause it's a "denser" powder and less spillage on the press. The guy that convinced me to switch shoots 9 major and I shoot 38 super. It took a full grain more powder behind a 115gr to make same power factor as he did and we both figured the difference was the volume of the case (19mm v. 22.5mm) so............... with a grain less powder, less gas (for 9 major)? more ports?
  4. Hey thanks for the suggestions guys.....the video idea didn't really stike me but my kids do have great eye/hand coordination..hehe may even be able to keep up with them some day. And I do use a hand strengthener on the road. Squeeze, hold and exercise the trigger finger. Thanks be
  5. Usually for me it's trying to "beat" someone on the squad or match. If I quit thinking of the competition and focus on my shooting it automatically slows me down. Amazing how "fast" I shoot when I "slow down"
  6. Too many airports even for "inert" guns.........
  7. One thing I hate is having so many gaps in my training. I mean being gone from my home range for several days each week. It takes me at least one training session to get back to feelinng comfortable with where I was .... then go forward. Any reccomendations for "practice on the road"
  8. Now that's a new twist on load development! Kind of labor intensive? Actually no....saves me A LOT of time. I have my SDB mounted on a 2x10 board and clamp it to the bench. I just pull it...take it with me and work on the loads at the range. When I get it where it feels good and chronos right, I measure the pouder, set up my 1050 and use it for the season (warm v. cold). I load for open, SSK, and Production in 5 different guns for two of us. Heck of a lot better than working up loads ...driving to range, back and forth...you get the picture.
  9. Just Keeps Practicin'

  10. Don't know about springs but I shoot a Sprinfield XD40 and decided I like a lighter bulllet going faster. Berrys makes a 135gr and I run it at a 145 PF.
  11. I've found the best way is to start with a load you KNOW is safe and take that, your gun, and your reloader to the range for an afternoon along with a chrono and start making loads, chrono each one till you get the feel and power factor you are looking for THEN measure your powder for a good load. Just a thought on what's worked for me.
  12. Well said.....I would like to see more LE get involved but seems like lack of interest or pride gets in the way.
  13. JT just got his bullet feeder the other day. He was like a kid at christmas..hehe.. but he sure can load with that set up. I've watched him...the man flys at 1200/hour. However he loads 9 major....something that would be an absolute mess with auto indexing...but loading 38 super I have 3.5 mm more case to work with and don't find the auto indexing to be much of an issue spillage wise. And the way the 1050 is set up I can still check each case for powder. I'd miss that with a bullet feeder. 55,000 rounds and no squibs.... yet..... I keep my SDB set up for production .40 minor

    XDm Open.

    Thanks....very nice.
  15. I found over time that if I focus on the fundamentals.....sight picture, trigger control, movement.....that my stage time is close to where I want it to be and always improving. This approach also allows me to know what I did well and what went wrong when the stage is over. It may seem like progress comes slowly but it will come. These are also the things I practice with speed drills (draws, bill drills, ect) saved til last and then only a few minutes.
  16. I realized I had the same issue at the Florida Open. Flyers all over the place. Talked with Derek about my Millennium Custom and he said I could go to 0.385" - 0.390" on the comp with no problem. My machinist had a 0.392" reamer and we went with that. Solved the "skipping" problem and I don't notice a difference in dot tracking. Everyone that watched me shoot after the ream job said the gun still shoots flat. No flyers now. Dave Don't make me nervous...my Millennium gun has a Ti comp too Ok guys just dropped it back off to my smith and told him to womp it out. He says how big, we are at .364 so I told him to give it another .010 which will still be pretty tight compared to the recommendation above but it might just be enough, if not we shall do it again. As I said earlier, I went to 0.392 with no problems. It was at 0.375 so only enlagred by 0.017"....I would think 0.010 will do the trick. Good luck.

Dave Don't make me nervous...my Millennium gun has a Ti comp too Make you nervous??...haha not a chance. Mines a little older I think and was skipping off the top of the very end. All I talked to said the comps will sag over time. At any rate, the 0.392 solved MY problem......

    XDm Open.

You got a better picture of the comp?

  20. I'm at 0.003" crimp using MG 115/124 gr 1.25 OAL for 38 super
  21. Just so happens I ask the same question, but from some dads in my sons scout troop. 2 were engineers and one actually is a design engineer for a spring manufacture in our city. By the time they got done with me I knew less than I did when I ask the question. Bottom line, spring engineering and definition is not a simple thing. Actually the question I ask was when a spring is quoted at say 20#...at what point is that measured. Turns out it`s measured at 4 different points. I`ve been told by gun builders to make sure the springs have the same number of coils/length.
  22. Thanks and I`ll keep that in mind, but would be a bit far from where I`m gonna be Dave
  23. a match woud be fun but really just looking for some practice time
  24. Be careful you might be importing illegal things by bringing your"stuff" I`m covered in that area but thanks for heads up
