  1. I have the new Mk handgaurd in the rapid configuration and love it. I also have both styles in the original finish and prefer the new texture. Don't shoot it off your car hood as it will scratch the heck out of it!
  2. I can make my M2 not operate by overgripping with lighter loads so I try to hold it In a relaxed state.
  3. I'll throw my two cents in. First as Mr. Kelly has stated over and over it comes down to what you like. I recently re-tested on my 16" the Seekins, JP, Miculek, Rolling Thunder. The last three felt the best with the Rolling Thunder taking a slight edge in this rifle and the combination of parts I have. The downsides of the thunder seem to be buildup of gunk on the crown of the barrel. Not that big of a deal for me but for others it may be too much work. I will add that others have shot my rifle and don't like the recoil impulse. Pick one and practice and once you are comfortable with the feel don't change.
  4. Good questions on the group size. The rifle has always shot 1 moa or better and I discovered two issues with it. The first issue was the gas block was contacting the handguard during the shot. The second issue I discovered by reading a post by Kurt Miller. I unknowingly mounted the SLR handguard butted up tight against the upper receiver thus not really letting it free float. It showed up by causing shot stringing as the rifle heated up during longer periods of fire. I installed a gas block that would not hit and I slid the handguard forward about .030. Saturday morning I headed to the range to see if the modifications made any difference in group size. When I arrived at the range it was dead still, 34 degrees and snowing. I loaded six rounds in my mag, burned one into the berm, and quickly shot the group posted above. I drove down to inspect the target, giggled like a little kid upon inspection of the group and packed my stuff up because shooting in the snow kinda sucks. In my experience that was a lucky group but it still came out of a 16" AR with 8-10k through it. That's about as good as it gets in my book.
  5. was this from a melonited barrel? What is the rest of the set up? gas block, handguard, comp. bcg, etc?JP-15 upper/lower with titane bolt carrier, JP bolt, JP trigger, JP captured spring, SLR keymod handgaurd, seekins adj. gas block, Rolling Thunder comp with non- fluted non- melonite Stretch 16 barrel. Swarovski Z6i 1-6 in a Larue mount. This barrel also has a full season on it. I estimate between 8,000 & 10,000 rounds.
  6. This is one reason I like this barrel. 200 yard 5 shot group at 200 yards from my Stretch 16 yesterday. 77SMK 23g 8208, LC brass, 2.255 oal, cci400 primer
  7. I learn something every time I talk to a Miller. Sometimes good and sometimes great! Thanks Kurt! I just looked at my favorite hand guard on a rifle that just happens to be stringing and I did not understand why. No gap...... I had the hand guard butted up tight against the receiver. Easy fix and now back the range to see results.
  8. I am a sponsored shooter for Strong Side as a full disclaimer Shawn. I have the original prototype and have one full three gun season on that barrel and I estimate close to 10,000 rounds through and It still shoots under 1 MOA with 55's or 77's. I have never cared for the recoil impulse of 16" guns until shooting the stretch. I had just re-barreled my 18" CTR-02 when I tried the Stretch and have not looked back. I think I have about 50 rounds through my JP a year later and I am a huge JP fan and love that rifle. The intermediate gas system which is 2" longer than a carbine really makes a difference and it is by far my favorite gun to shoot.
  9. I have both. I can't say that I tested both in one rifle. The JP BCG is in my JP rifles and the Seekins is in my Seekins. Both are high quality parts. I am also running the Boomfab titane carrier in my 16" and could feel the difference in my 16" rifle over the JP low mass carrier so the lesson is weight does matter. Trick parts provide very minor performance enhancements in my experience but it sure is fun building new guns and experimenting.
  10. Check out the Stretch 16 from Strong Side Tactical. http://www.strongsidetactical.com/stretch-16-precision-ar15-barrel-assembly-cerakoted-16-223-wylde-intermediate-length-gas/ It has an intermediate gas system that is two inches longer than carbine length gas systems that really makes the recoil impulse feel like a rifle length on a 18" barrel. Gaurenteed 1 MOA accuracy. Full disclaimer is that Strong Side sponsors me however I would not write this if I didn't think it was a fabulous product. I have an 18" JP And 18" Seekins that sat in the gun safe all year after trying this barrel last winter.
  11. I picked up the grease, carbon eliminator and tactical lube 2 years ago at Blue Ridge and have been using it ever since. The tactical lube and grease are outstanding. I can't say I really like the carbon eliminator as a cleaner. The good news is after using the tactical lube carbon and dirt pretty much just wipe off and I don't really need a cleaner or carbon eliminator. I live in Colorado and shoot in all temperatures and have had no issue shooting in the extreme cold or heat. This morning -8 F and I'm not shooting! Good luck!
  12. Thtat is what has happened to me. I love JP stuff however I will use what I think works the best. All my rifles have the silent captured spring because of what they don't do. They don't make noise. It doesn't vibrate the rifle in some wierd way causing a poor sight picture. If you don't have an adjustable gas system JP makes a alternate spring pack to tune your rifle. Try one, you won't be disappointed.
  13. ^^^^^^^^^^^ This, I was guilty of this in 2014. Not ever to hurt another shooter but out of frustration of my own performance. Which leads me to lesson 1. Thanks for the reminder Pat. 1. I am at a weird spot in my shooting journey right now. The mental part of shooting is very very hard. I am capable of finishing in the top ten on any stage at most matches however I am also capable of finishing 100th depending on how agregious my mental errors were. 2. Shoot offs are hard, back to the mental game. It's really easy to hit the gas and start missing. 3. Three gun is by far my favorite shooting sport. The competitors, the sponsors, the match directors, the RO's, this forum, the challenge, the gear, the bad matches, the good matches....it's all freaking awesome. 4. When in doubt go with the stage plan that you can execute flawlessly vs. the high risk plan. 5.Practice more work less! Lol
  14. It took a lot of work and experimentation to tune my 16" rifle to behave like my 18". In the end I now prefer the lighter 16" over the heavier JP CTR-002. I'm convinced that practicing with whatever you have will yield the largest performance gains. That being said it is fun to build new rifles.
  15. I have a 24" M2, 26" Vinci and a 28" super nova for Heavy Metal. The super nova is very heavy and I can't tell the difference between the other two.
  16. I don't think so. The weight difference is negligible and your barrel still ends up being shorter than the mag tube.
  17. I don't know why I am so excited for this match but I am! I think sending out the stage descriptions early is what did it. I feel prepared and ready to shoot. I'll be there Thursday to help set up stages.
  18. As a guy who does a lot of RO'ing and entering all of our local match results into practiscore I really appreciate Time Plus with or without points. Simple, fast, and rewards the best shooters. Everyone gets a chance to shoot the crappy or unbalanced stages equally so my opinion is put your big girl panties on and shoot, shoot fast and shoot accurate!
  19. 5-8 minute stage.......guess I better work on breathing between shots?
  20. Since I picked up one of the Burris certificates I would also like to say thank you. I am going to order the XTRII 1-5 for a 3-gun build that's almost complete!
  21. This match was awesome, but don't tell anybody cause Mike doesn't want it to get big. Tooooooo late Mr. Payne! Great job! Even the stage you didn't care for was awesome because of its simplicity and need for perfect execution. Thank you Burris, Carbon Arms, Brownells, Nordic Components, and Shooters Source for sponsoring such a great match. Great job Mike and team!
  22. Cabelas 3-gun bag holds more stuff than you want to carry and 53" shotty fits inside.
