  1. What he said. I'm really looking forward to this match. Hope you get some more entries so this thing can go.
  2. I'll see you there! Who else is in?
  3. Had a lot of fun. Thanks to Jimmy and a great bunch of people who put it on. It was hot. I zeroed my last stage on Saturday and I'll blame it on being so hot that I was sick and way more interested in getting it over with than I was in finding the targets and figuring out how to shoot them. Yeah, the chrono looked goofy on it's side, but it seemed to work just fine like that. My PF was about where I expected it. Good food, great people, lots of shooting, interesting and challenging stages. I'll be back! EDIT: I was on a great squad. Hats off to the West Texas guys: Kale Garretson won Limited. Jim Bodkin and Jordan Ohlmann were first and second in Production. All three of them as well as the rest of my squad helped me survive my first major match.
  4. Yeah, I've got the Mitchell in my 1911. Only works from the right side.
  5. Finally made C class in Singlestack. It was the new gun, I'm sure After being stuck in D class for 3 years I got a new pistol and my next three classifier scores were 37.8070, 46.2327, and 52.5809. And that pushed me over. Maybe if I, ya know like practice and stuff this could be a short stop on the way to B class.
  6. Check's in the mail. Probably going to a motel first Friday evening, then motel to match Saturday morning. But may go that way anyhow to scout out where we'll need to be.
  7. From Montgomery, Google maps shows that it's slightly further but a little faster to take I85 to Opelika and then US280 down. US80 looks like a more direct route, but it's shown to take longer. (I am well aware that the shortest route is not always the quickest route.) What think you folks who actually know the area?
  8. Thanks. What was that about leaky sandbags?
  9. After a couple years of dragging around a freebie duffel bag with a cardboard box in there as a stiffener/divider, I broke down and got the big Shooter's Connection bag. I'm pretty happy with it.
  10. I'm reading Brian's book. I ordered Matt's DVDs vol 1-3. Next up for me is probably Steve Anderson's dry fire book.

  12. First thing you need is a camera.
  13. I'm expecting UPS to deliver another case any minute. I've ordered several cases from AA&A. Always fast shipping and good ammo at very reasonable prices.
  14. Mitchell right-side mag catch, so I can release the mag with my trigger finger. I don't have to flip the pistol and my grip along the back strap stays consistent.
  15. I had a short practice session last week and remembered this thread. I tried the same thing and had similar results. In dry fire, my draw has been around 1.7-1.6 seconds. 1.5 was really pushing it. Usually, my live fire beep-to-first-shot time was around 1.71 to 1.86. (Yeah, I'm that slow.) At the range, sort of at the last minute I thought "I should try that thing about concentrating on my support hand." First few tries, my draw to first shot went to the 1.25-1.39 range. Just by taking my focus off my grip. I think that when my conscious mind was trying to micro-manage the draw, it was slowing me down. It's cool when I read something in Brian's book and think, "yeah, yeah, whatever." And then I try something and the lightbulb comes on and I understand what I had read and it's like, "damn, he's right again!" Thanks to dab for starting this thread. Immediate improvement. I'm not sure that focusing on the support hand is the key, it's just that I'm not focusing on trying to get the perfect grip and draw the gun just this certain way. Focus on something else and the gun just comes out. Cool!
  16. If I'm standing at the line shooting groups slow fire, really slow, like several seconds or more between shots, then I can shoot about as accurately with one hand as with two, weak hand or strong hand, though weak hand is even slower. On the clock, it's not even close. I'm slow with two hands, slower shooting strong hand only, and go get a cup of coffee when I'm shooting weak hand only.
  17. +1 They have my new bass guitar. They've made 2 attempts to deliver, but since it was send signature required and I'm not here during the day . . . After the first attempt, I signed the note where it authorizes them to leave it. The guy evidently pulled that note off the door and put up a new note saying he'll make a third attempt on Monday.
  18. I thought I'd shot this before, but I guess I'm the only one who hadn't. Shot it today with Lea County Action Shooters in Hobbs, NM. Singlestack minor On both strings, I transitioned to the second target, and then remembered I had to reload. That cost me some time. 5.48 seconds + 5.95 seconds = 11.43 seconds. All Alphas. 100 points divided by 11.43 seconds = 8.7489 Hit Factor classifiercalc.com says 52.5810% cmcalc.com says 52.58% That will move me up to C Class in Singlestack (finally).
  19. In the range bag. If I work late Friday night and I'm getting up early to go to a match Saturday morning, I hate going through that "What am I forgetting?" stuff. Make sure the gun is in the bag and I didn't leave it out last time I was dry firing or cleaning or whatever. Make sure there's enough ammo in the bag. Throw bag in truck and go.
  20. I shot this on June 23 with West Texas Practical Shooters. Shooting Singlestack minor. 10.87 seconds had 4 Charlies 4.7838 Hit Factor classifiercalc.com says 46.2328% cmcalc.com says 46.23% That's a good score for me. That should bring my average up to 39.03 and make it very likely that I'll be moving up to C class soon. If I shoot 37.5787% or better on my next SS classifier, OR average 31.8690% or better on my next two SS classifiers, I won't be able to sandbag in D class any longer.
  21. 40 points divided by 6.18 seconds equals 6.4725 Hit Factor. 38 points divided by 5.18 seconds equals 7.3359 Hit Factor. I don't know what division you're shooting so I can't say what percentage that would be. You can punch those HF numbers in at http://www.classifiercalc.com/ and/or http://www.cmcalc.com/ to get a very close estimate of what it will be.
  22. I agree with this statement, but there is a flip side. "If I was shooting 40 I wouldn't have caught the perf on that damn no shoot!!" When I shoot a no-shoot, I don't catch the perf. I hit 'em right between the eyes.
