  1. I started out with a Colt 38 Super with a Bomar sight for practice and at my first match had a tricked out race gun of the day. Colt single stack in 38 Super, comp'ed and tasco dot. Still have them both.
  2. mcmaster carr - carries high quality bolts
  3. I have loaded in the multi millions. Never had one let off on a manual press (1050, 650, Star, Lee, etc.) only one was with the Camdex and had 500-800 primers in the vib bowl on top. Machine had a jam and went to clear it only to have my Dad want to help. Before I could tell him to not move the fly wheel, the jammed primmer went off with the rest of them. Thought the reloading room was all exploding, I think that day I would have beat Usain Bolt in the 100 yard dash. Still have hearing loss on the right ear from it. Always were safety glasses even on the lawn mower, I like having 2 eyes.
  4. 1050 (9mm), 650 (6 heads, 30-06, 308, 45 ACP, 40, 223, can remember the other), (3) Star progressive reloaders, one set up for large caliber pistol (45LC, 45 ACP, 44, 41) one for 38/357 and one in 38 super & .380, Rock Chucker with dies from 218 bee to 458 tons in between, Lee Single stage press, Lee Turret, Lee Pro 1000, Mec 76 Series Grabber Hydurlic 12GA, Mec 9000H 12GA, Mec 9000 in 20GA, Mec 600 28GA & 410GA, Lee Load All 12GA & 20GA. There may be more, not going to search now. Various case trimming and primer swaging tools, hand primers, (2) Vibra Prime automatic primer tube filler in Large and small , 2 tumbers. Sold the Camdex that was in 38, that was nice machine 3800 rounds an hour. I grew up on a shooting range, Dad left me all this. Miss him dearly.
  5. When my son was 4 or 5 we attended a church were alcohol was against their doctrine. It was around Thanksgiving and the Sunday school teacher was asking the kids what does your family have/do during Thanksgiving. Of course the normal turkey, stuffing, etc. were mentioned. You guessed it, my son raised his hand and stated "Drink Beer". The Sunday school teacher was a friend of ours and could not wait to tell us. The wife was embarrassed but I was proud.
  6. Don't laugh but my father-in-law bought a recent Marlin from a guy at work for $50. Decided to buy ammo online like this and paid $110 to have a brick sent to me because he felt lucky to find ammo. I just shook my head and cried a little. Called and told him I had 5k already and to stop wasting our inheritance.

    It's Shark Week!

I just spit my soda on the PC, didn't see that one coming. I wonder how many people on the forum are too young to know this reference.
  8. Ah, yes. The ever lovely, ad hominem, "if you don't think exactly what I do, you're a bad person" argument. Studies show that repeated blows to the head—say from falling off of high horses—can lead to memory loss. And Mitch, how was anyone to know it was exactly $1000 less than the normally advertised price? The gun that's listed was $1000 less yesterday. There were no others. My father and mentor taught me to do the right thing always. I have never prescribed to the "if you don't think exactly what I do, you're a bad person", no I follow the morals and ethics set forth by my father and our FATHER. I am not perfect so I can see others will not be that way either.
  9. Ethics either you have them or you dont. I have never allowed a scorer to count an oblong hole as a double when I knew the shot was not on target. I have also corrected the bill at a restaurant when I was under charged. You cant have ethics when they are convenient. We play in an industry with low margins for the final seller and as stated above in constant jeopardy with our rights to be taken away. We all need to be stand-up guys. Be the bigger man and do the right thing to forgive someone who made an honest mistake. You even suspected it before you tried to purchase it.
  10. Wish I could help you more but my 1000 is 15 hours away and I don't remember how it was all designed.
  11. I used a lee 1000 and the turrets back in the 80's with Federal primers and never set one off. The only loading press to ever set one off for our shop was the Camdex (professional reloading machine 3800 rds an hour) and that was because of a jam. I have used all types of primers and never had a problem on a hand press. I have loaded in the millions. (Dad owned a shooting range.) As suggested with the Winchester, seat them a little deeper. Be careful if you switch to Federal and try to seat them too deep. Good Luck.
  12. It doesn’t take much to make a S&W feel reasonable well. You can do a lot to a S&W by polishing and honing the guts, bob the hammer and profile a trigger to your liking all without needing to know anything about gunsmithing. Put grips on you like swap out sights and you have one sweet ride. All this can be done on the kitchen table. This gets you on the range cheep with a good gun.
  13. I own and have show many 682's. My 682 super sporting 28" has served me well in skeet, sporting clays and upland game. My 682 30" trap shoots great for 16 yard, doubles and international trap. I have had 680's s and a few 686's but they were field guns and I was not in love with them. Look at Jasuas fine guns in Findlay, Ohio www.jaquas.com They usually have good deals. Might also find an older BT99, they also shoot well.
  14. I would go with the 28" tubes. This way you also have an upland game gun as well. If you want to shoot trap, move up to the 30".
  15. I have an old Pachmayr 22LR 1911 conversion. I only have 2 mags for it and wondered if any of the current single stack mags would work or if you know where to find mags.
  16. I too am a MP5 guy. My Dad paid $850 back before the ban, but will never sell it. My son loves it. We pressed in an after market barrel and it stays on a 16 to 20" plate at 100 yards. It shot lead like a champ back then. 2 Claw mounts that return very close if not on every time. Low power scope and an Aimpoint. We had several matches back in Indiana but times have changed. Even had a Bianchi match for the subguns. My Reising 55 is ok compared to an MP5 but the mag quantity is lacking. Had to put a model 50 stock on it to enjoy it a little. A friend built up a Frankenstin from a Suomi that handles great. Might be a cheaper option. All the parts are listed on the web. If you want more info, PM me. I will ask him for the info.

    Trap Gun

A local registered shoots will have plenty of options for you as mentioned above. The main question is, do you want to do anything else with it? Remington autos can be built for anything; change the stock, barrel, add extensions. etc. Beretta autos are a little nicer. older 303's , to the 391 and on are better sporting guns but limited to mods; no extensions like the M2. In the long run, Remington will be cheaper for you.

    Wife's b'day

Love it, could see my Mom saying that to my Dad back in the day.
  19. I carry different pistols to meet the needs of the environment and my attire. Growing up on a shooting range allowed me to train with multiple platforms. I always taught or demonstrated with each firearm the people in the class were using. I am fortunate to have done this and am comfortable with most platforms. This goes back to the environment and attire. The 1911 and Colt Mustang would go along with your training regiment but when I know I am traveling through an undesirable area, capacity pushes me to the Glock. I haven't carried a revolver in a while but before the polymer guns were common, it was my door gun for the car. I have never suggested carrying a firearm that you have not trained with in the manor you are carrying. 392heminut is correct about police doing the same as they qualified. Too many of them in a live fire course had AD's when not having time to think. The fault for them is they rarely trained (low to no funding). As my mentor and father always said, practice, practice and practice! This is your life and many others at stake! I would not be afraid of carrying multiple platforms but I have trained a lot with all of them and yes muscle memory is there!
  20. Paul, I knew of Pinetucky but 2.5 hours starts to push it for a monthly match. Hoping to find somewhere closer and a place to practice. Greg, The ICORE sight doesn't list anything near me or even Pinetucky in Agusta. Hoping some of the locals were on this sight and could direct me to a good range in my area that wasn't indoor or had the mall ninjas around.
  21. Just moved back to the east and looking to shoot consistently again. Being a guy that shot in the 80's and 90's I have a revolver set up for NRA action pistol with 1000's of rounds still loaded. Moved to a 1911 Bianchi gun but the nearest club is 2-3 hours away. Any one know of a range or club near me?
  22. There are two methods for shooting crossing birds, sustained lead or get on it, push out in front and pull the trigger (and keep swinging). Yes the first lesson is stated above, Keep your head down. Too many people want to lift their head to see the bird crush only to watch it fly away. Find a good shooter willing to watch you shoot straight away’s and then angled birds. You will learn tons watching that person but helpful hints on mounting, swing and follow through will get you on track faster than reading about it. When I get on the pad and before I call the bird this is what goes through my head: “keep your head down, get on it, get out in front of it, pull the trigger”. Good Luck!
  23. I have to concur with the 12 gauge. I just went through this with my sister last year. She had been shooting an older SKB 20 gauge 26" Sk/Sk. Needing to improve her scores she thought about a newer 20 Gauge but I had her shoot my Beretta 682 with 7/8 and 1 oz loads. Too heavy a gun. Then had her go to the Rem 1100, 1187, Beretta autos and nothing worked well enough for her. We then went back to the 12 Gauge O/U. My dad still had some Churchill sporting O/U on the shelf at his shop and it was the best solution for her. It was 28", ported but with a light density wood. The gun would swing well for her size (5'6"/ 125 lbs) even though it appeared to be larger for her. 7/8's and 1 oz light loads and she jumped 5-6 birds over night. The nice thing is her husband can use it. The gun does not work for me but a smaller frame person might like the full size gun without the taxing weight issue.
  24. Ponsness/Warren is a nice machine but if your getting into shotgun shooting and don't know the full quantity you will shoot then paying the higher $$ might not warrant it. I have reloaded under a million rounds with MEC. First with a Grabber, then added the Hydro unit and now with the 9000H. The 9000H is slower than the Grabber with Hydro added but is less taxing on the body when you are loading for hours. That's my 2 cents.
  25. "The Wild Bunch" We watched this with my father every Thanksgiving.
