    Being Broke

Had the same in 2009 but have a better job now! Keep the chin up, he has a plan for you.
  2. I purchased 2 hi-cap frames last year but have yet had the time or money to start building them. The main issue I have not decided what to build. Open 38SC or 9MM major with one frame and 9MM or 40 in the other to carry and/or Limited. With the latest talk on the Hill to bring back the 10 round max capacity mags, I don't know if I have time to wait in purchasing mags which would require me to decide on caliber and quantities. Plus the $$ factor at one time. I have seen many higher capacity mags in standard production guns going off the shelf like wildfire but are the Caspian, Para & STI/SVIs' doing the same? Should I or our community of new shooters be worried about not have equipment for the future? Thanks, Rankin (I ran this past Flexmoney before posting.)
  3. I have spoken to a few people about his topic and now question if a CNC'ed aluminum trigger guard would be something others would buy. Knowing this part breaks frequently, does the number of SSG's warrant another option or are the quantities too low?
  4. I had tried Numrich before posting and nothing, guess I will have to call Steyr. Thanks.
  5. I have an older (1980's) Steyr SSG 69 with set triggers that has one of the mag retention tabs broken off. I don't have the rifle in my possession to find out if the part number for the trigger guard assembly. Is this assembly an easy replacement and if yes, where can I get one?
  6. I grew up on a range and have built complex movers with controls for speed. If desired for one constant speed, Kimmbeckwith has a common setup that I have seen many people use for private use. One friend used limit switches for his setup and used the remote to activate it. He put the remote on his hat and the limit switch turned it off. A light and sturdy target frame is the way to go. If you have people shooting that aren't that good, expect your frame to be shot up. We used a wood frame back in the day (80's up to 2005) and duct taped the sides (this will take many hits without breaking. If you shoot in a windy area, think about a lower guide wire/rope, just make the frame longer. Have fun!
  7. Thomas, I look forward to your build. I have 2 Caspian high cap frames and still don't know what direction I am going with them. Please keep a good parts list.
  8. Just an FYI, if you don't have a Mover at your local range; shoot Skeet. In the days before Mover Dots or Mover Bases, I would take people struggling and have them shoot Skeet for a while. Results improved drastically. Understanding follow through was the best thing.
  9. I am Rankin Reinholt, Jim's son. Thank you for your kind words. Dad promoted shooting and our gun rights all my life. He taught me about life and how important our gun rights were the corner stone of a free society. With his help I had the opportunity shoot around the country and become the captain of the Purdue Trap & Skeet Team. I won numerous championships with them but my proudest moment was winning the Reinholt Mug / NRA Regional one year. He was a great man and my Hero.
  10. There are a few Vegas guys here on the forum. Ask away for what you want to do while here.
  11. Try looking at this thread: http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=112067&st=0&p=1272213&fromsearch=1entry1272213
  12. Regarding the shot timer, another thread discussed that a few months ago. I will have to look it up and get back to you. Congrats on the phone. Another Droid user here!
  13. Growing up on a gun range and store allow me to use many different machines over the years. We tried C&H for many years but ended up with the Star Machine press for most of the time until we moved up to a Camdex. I have reloaded in the millions of rounds with a Star and turned down 2 sets of 38 Super dies to fit it's unique dia and thread pattern. We reloaded everything from 45LC down to 380 on them. Great presses. Yes I have a 650 and 1050 as well but too many memories of reloading into the night because some PD needed ammo for weekend qualifying.
  14. Wow you are bring up the past. I still have my Ernie Hill for my first single stack race gun and thought I was on top of the world. I might be interested.
  15. In college I shot my best scores in Trap and Skeet the morning after a hard night of drinking. Like you, I was sober for shooting but could only think of what I had to do; call pull, pull the trigger and say ouch in my head. Shot many 100 straights this way. My best friend had the same experience with great results. Don't recommend it but it definitely took the negative mental game away from what I was doing. Needless to say I haven’t repeated the pre-night prep like that since.
  16. Does the budget allow for compacting and gravel? Due note that your climate will suck a layer of pea gravel down quickly into the dirt. Layered gravel (larger on bottom and then topped off with pea) is more ideal. Talk to a quarry guy and they will have good info. This can get costly. I grew up on a range in Northern Indiana and lived in your area for 10 years. I have seen it all. The next question is mowing or spraying. PM me if you want a lifetime of range building experience, things that worked and those that didn't.
  17. Generally I would say that is on par for the gun. Jaquas in Ohio has a combo 26"/24" used for sale at the same price. http://www.jaquas.com/gunlist/Search.asp#119530 119696 BENELLI M2 FIELD 12 GA 3" 24" 26" TWO BARRELS $995.00 Case Accessory Used Matte black autoloading shotgun with two ventilated rib, multi-choked barrels, Comfotech stock, cased with extra choke tubes and in excellent condition
  18. Mechanical & Structures Engineering Manager for an Aerospace company. It's not rocket science...uh wait, yes it is. Program Manager in automotive for many years before that.
  19. Welcome aboard from the great state of Nevada. Maybe see you at a shoot down in Sin City.
  20. 3,800 Rounds an hour. Camdex with auto loaders on everything. (I grew up with a gun store and large range in my back yard.) Your 4.25sec per hundred is smoking.
  21. If you have a card that can be read by touching the screen and not swiped, then you could be at risk. These types of cards are read by RFIDs (radio frequency ID) and the traditional mag stripe. These can be hacked while in your pocket. http://tv.boingboing.net/2008/03/19/how-to-hack-an-rfide.html God help us all.
  22. Don't know if Indiana law has changed, but I grew up on a shooting range / gun store and having a FFL and selling anything required a business license. Indiana's internal revenue service was not too kind to many recreational FFL holders back in the day. You sell it (gun or ammo) and they want their tax.
  23. Growing up on a shooting range for me introduced this problem a long time ago. Fortunately it worked in my favor. I usually was the last guy to shoot the full match and dead tired. This allowed me to turn my brain off and only do what I needed to do. The trophy room proves it worked; but yes, I was 20+ years younger.
  24. Great Idea. I will talk to my nerds here at work about this. They create off beat apps all the time (on their own time of course). Making that clear incase the boss is reading this thread.
  25. Thanks for the note. I just purchased 2 frames today. Great deal for what they are.
