  1. I think you have people confused with your question. The Diamondback grips are made by VZ, with Mink and others selling them. I don't know what the CZC aggressive checkering is. I have both the CZ thin aluminum grips and the VZ Diamondbacks and for me the Diamondbacks are much better. Much grippier, and thicker allowing me to get more skin against them. The only thing I don't like about the Diamondbacks is that I can feel them flex when I squeeze, however I only notice this when practicing, never in a match.
  2. Dry fire. Draw to a sight picture. Do this a few thousand times.
  3. That's what I get for typing while my son is wanting to play. What I meant to say is the Tripp mag won't insert without pressing the mag catch. It hits the catch and stops, whereas the Wilson mag pushes past it.
  4. So, taking several of your suggestions I think it's the relationship between the slide stop and the Wilson follower. If the stars are aligned the Wilson follower will push up the stop that's in the gun, but it's also very easy for the follow to move to the side a touch and move past the nose of the slide stop. I have no idea which stop is in there, but I'd prefer to solve this by changing to a different slide stop with a wider nose. Any suggestions there? I see EGW sells their HD slide stop in two versions, one for 45 and one marked 9/40/38 Super. I have 8 of the Wilson's but only one Tripp, hence the desire to stick with the Wilson's. Also, the Tripp won't seat without pushing the slide stop, no matter how hard I push.
  5. The lack of a decocker is part of the reason the triggers can be made as nice as they are. Less internal friction I suppose.
  6. I have a new 1911 built in 40 S&W and am having problems getting the slide to lock back. Here are the symptoms: a) Using Wilson 47FX magazines the slide does not lock back, either in live fire or manually racking the slide. I have 8 of these brand new mags and it's the same for each. I have one Tripp 40 mag and it will lock back on this mag when manually racking the slide. I have not shot it in live fire yet. c) If I open the slide and insert an empty Wilson mag it does push up the slide stop as it should. d) Once I have a Wilson mag seated in the gun there seems to be a lot of resistance in moving the slide stop, or at least more than I would expect. I took the follower out of the mag and reseated it to check for metal to metal contact between the mag body and the slide stop. It's close, but I don't think this is the culprit. e) The plunger has worn a little track on the rear face of the slide stop. I am assuming this is normal, but it caught my eye. Any thoughts on what to check/change?

    Thicker CZ 75 Grips?

I've been told there are thicker grips coming out from two different sources in the near future.
  8. It's not the most economic option with the hazmat fee and 5k limit, but I signed up for notices from Midway and have scored 2 boxes of 5k Federal SP primers in the last month or so.

    Got an HK45

That's my night stand gun, LEM as well. I love mine.
  10. Are contacts an option? I wear glasses daily and used a pair of Rudy's with the optical insert for shooting. I tried contacts solely for shooting and it's working much better for me.
  11. 6 pouches. At make ready I load from the rearmost pouch, leaving 5 possible reloads.
  12. I have a feeling this one will be the best start to a moderately priced Single Stack gun.
  13. My engineering career also helps me understand how critical 0.0001 can be, given the application. This is not a machining procedure they are doing as far as I know. They are taking a hardened steel button and pulling it through a drilled bore. As I see it, as long as they keep the diameter of their buttons in check and toss them when they are worn it should be easy for them to hold the tolerance. It's not exactly challenging to measure and sort button diameters. Schuemann has one of the best reputations in pistol barrels. They are certainly doing something right to keep the following they have.
  14. I get these a fair amount from range brass I pickup. I agree that they seem to be over pressured (maybe its 9mm major I am seeing it in?)
  15. Any particular reason why everyone is picking one in .40 S&W instead of 45 ACP? Just reduction in recoil? For the reasons mentioned above 40 is becoming a powerhouse in single stack sales. Para is introducing their single stack ready 40 1911, STI sells a ton of Trojans in 40. Sig better get on the ball with their 40 if they want much participation in USPSA Single Stack.
  16. Midway got in Federal SPP yesterday, both in regular and match, and I was able to scoop up 5000. I do feel like supply is catching up.
  17. Reshoot, if Schuemann is pulling a button through their barrels to rifle them I imagine the tolerance is extremely good. As long as the button is checked for diameter frequently and replaced when it is reduced then the process should be very consistent.
  18. Have you considered a moly coated bullet? The Black Bullets International bullets have been wonderful for me and are readily available.
  19. No reason to clean the bore, chamber and outside of the barrel only. .
  20. I'm a lefty so this will probably be backward for you, but here is what I did.
  21. Can I get some recommendations for OAL for the above bullet? For those that use this bullet, what length do you load to? I'll be running them through an HK P30L which allows for a fairly long length. I'm currently running 124gr Montana Gold 124gr jhps at 1.180".
  22. Pick up a copy of Ben Stoeger's technique book. He talks about this a little, and if I recall he suggests it might work well when shooting one handed.
  23. I assume dskinsler had the same Matt throat his barrel that throated mine. My go-to 9mm load is MG 124gr JHP over VV N320, loaded at about 1.18". Couldn't get that with the factory throat.
