  1. You got that right!!! There was some internal database work, as well as hooks for the provisional single stack division. It should be fixed later tonite. The problem exists only with the display of data - the master classification database is intact and uncorrupted. Rob
  2. You give your son the middle name "Cooper" and don't tell your wife where that name came from until after the ink on the birth certificate is dry. Yes, one of the local USPSA members here in Massachsuetts did that. "Cooper" is now shooting 9mm in production division.
  3. Ivan - that reminds me of watching a Canadian customs officer in the Toronto airport point a 1911 w/red dot scope at the other customs agents while yelling out "hey, look at this".
  4. "If you can see a target from a shooting position, you are allowed to shoot at it. It is permissable to be able to see a target from multiple shooting positions, provided you are allowed to shoot at it from any of these positions where it is visible."
  5. It's not any such attempt, just an explaination of what has always been considered good course design. I would not have voted to approve the forms if I felt the chcecklist did in fact have the meaning you suggest. Consider a "crowd control" stage with two rows of targets - the shoots targets are in the back row, with no shoots and hard cover in the front row. The shooter has a huge shooting box facing the targets and is told to engage each target. Some, but not all, targets are available from each point in the large box. Your mission is to engage every target without wasting time re-engaging targets from multiple positions. Such a course would be consistent with the NROI from since every target could be engaged from any position where visible - but you would still have to use your memory.
  6. There is no such provision. After discussions with Michael Voigt, we did not expect this to be an issue. If the board finds that the intent of the ammo program is being "gamed" we can adjust the rules (with proper notice, of course). I am hoping to be able to get chrono records of the "verification shooting" of official ammo from some major matches to see how it is actually measuring under field conditions. Congratulations on being the first to order. I checked the system and your order went in exactly as it should. Precision Delta will ship to FL on about 2/1. at which point you will be able to see the package tracking number on ammo ordering web page.
  7. The forms are in the board minutes section, and will be in the forms area of the website once I find out where NROI wants them. My understanding is that "Competitors can see only those targets to be shot from any single firing position. Competitors will never have to memorize which targets are to be shot from the various positions or views." means that you can only see the targets you should be shooting at. It does not prohibit the seeing of a target from multiple shooting positions if it is legal to shoot from those multiple positions. What is to be avoided are situations where you have a clear view of a target from a shooting position and must remember that particular target is not engageable. I consider this totally consistent with "If you can see it, you can shoot at it." The is a clear difference in meaning between "can only see those targets..." and "target can only bee seen from one position.". The former does not imply the later. And, the usual disclaimer applies that all interpretations are only official when made by NROI.
  8. The USPSA board had a telephone conference call meeting last evening, and the minutes are posted in the members area of the web site. Three orders of business were addressed: Official approval granted to various routine NROI forms. Point series changes for 2006 details in minutes - now $25 and does not include the nationals) "Official Match Ammo" accepted at the certified power factor, with some provisions to prevent this from becoming a mechanism for cheating. The details are posted on the RULES section of the USPSA web site - www.uspsa.org/rules
  9. I like powder and primer distributors who ship directly in their own fleet of trucks without hazmat (only to a dealer on a group order, but still easily done if you can find a cooperating FFL). If you're in the northeast, Beikirch Ammunition of East Rochester, NY is great to deal with (no VV powders though, and the only bullets are the big names - Speer/Hornady/etc. ... but they are great for Alliant, Winchester and Hogdgon powders as well as Winchester and Federal primers.
  10. One more thing - if you are planning on installing any canned software (forum packages, etc.) make sure the hosting environment supports the package you are using. The two most popular hosting environments are Windows Server w/ASP and Linux w/Apache-MySql-Perl. Both can get the job done and deliver excellent results. If you're just hosting static pages, chances are you'll never even notice the difference. Rob
  11. "boudrie.com" is hosted on that server as well, and my wife uses the machine to get her email (perhaps the only "job benefit" of service as USPSA webmaster). If the machine is down, I do not get the option of "worrying about it later"
  12. I believe the next day requirement only applies to handguns. Rob - I don't know about FeEx, but it looks like UPS requires it for all firearms. UPS firearms policy How so? I read the policy you linked to, and one of the first quotes it "You must ship your packages that contain handguns with UPS Next Day Air....". I could not find any reference to this requirement for long guns. Did I miss something?
  13. Care to elaborate on the BS you have to fish through? He may be referring to the countless screens offering to sell you additional services. Another reasonable cost hosting provider is www.pair.com. If you want a dedicated machine, they're always the server farm USPSA uses - www.ev1servers.net. If it's a USPSA club site, you can get space on the USPSA server by asking me nicely.
  14. I believe the next day requirement only applies to handguns.
  15. You can find their on-line ordering system with access to the current product database at www.precisiondeltasales.com, and there are 3 40 loads (6 if you cound re-used and new brass as different loads): 40 minor; 40 major; 40 major long. They will eventually be on a single site - the separate site was creates as a quick way of getting on-line while the webmaster on their main site works on a new look. No plans for super yet - it depends on the reaction to the 40. The problem with the super is that there is a wider variery of needs - super; super comp; power for non-ported bbl; power for hybricomp barrel; etc. Don't get confused by the terms on their old site - the USPSA related products are being offered in terms we understand like "New brass", "Used brass" - and not under marketingspeak like "training ammo" and "match ammo".
  16. 40 Caliber Major and 40 Caliber Major Long are new Precision Delta products. The first run of 40 major is being done this week, and the first run of 40 Major Long is scheduled for next week. There are three ordering options: - By the case direct from Precision Delta - Evaluation packs of 250 rounds from Precision Delta - By the box, delivered directly to matches. This costs a bit more since you can buy any number of boxes (even just one) and the price includes shipping directly to the event
  17. The first USPSA Area 7 Three Gun Championship will be hosted by Harvard Sportsmen (Harvard, MA) in September. Details will be posted to the schedule soon, and there will be an ad in the next issue of Front Sight. This will be a traditional 3 gun with three stages - 3 rifles, 3 handgun, 2 shotgun/shot and 1 shotgun/slug. My local practice crew has accepted the assignment of designing and staffing the slug stage, and I'm really looking forward to the event.
  18. Publication is a call to be made by HQ, however, my best guess is that results will be public in late February/early March. We are keeping the survey open for a few more weeks since we are still receiving new responses on a daily basis. Rob
  19. Pete's advice is good - if you have a gun which is suitable for one of the divisions. If you have a center fire handgun of at least 9mm caliber, all you need is a belt mounted holster which covers the trigger guard, some belt mount magazine carriers and a few spare magazines (5 magazines is enough to get you through any match). You can ask all the opinions you want, however, nothing beats going to matches, seeing what's being used, talking to people, watching guns in action and some friendly interaction at the safe table if you ask someone to show you their gun. If you buy a gun based on the advise from someone else you are sure to end up with an excellent suggestion - for that person . If your current collection consists of a .22 target pistol and a .380PPK/s, you're going to need a gun for the matches. I would suggest you get one of the "Classics" which is not excessively expensive, and which you expect you would enjoy even if you subsequently get a specialized gun for another division. Three that come to mind are Glock 9mm (production); Glock .40S&W (limited/limited 10); 1911 (Limited 10 or Single Stack). There are other valid quality choices as well.
  20. NRA Headquarters already arranges coverage for the Shot Show; The NRA Show and the ASLET show. Beyond that, it's not practical to send paid staff out to cover events. The way to get gun show and expo coverage is for clubs or sections to do this. If you ask your Area Director, there is an very high probability you can get the table fee for your show paid by USPSA. While you're asking for the table fee, you might as well ask your AD to get some marketing literature, posters and display materials from USPSA for your table. In order to translate "table visitors" into "members", you need a follow-up activity. The show my local club exhibits at each year always runs an intro course about 5 weeks after the match, and we've always filled it to capacity (16), and turned a few of the attendees into regulars. USPSA has a "shop display" program, and participating shops are listed in the clubfinder (if you look up a club by zip code, participating shows show up as well). The problem has been getting "traction" with this program. I have some ideas and will be talking to HQ about them.
  21. AMAZON.COM is the only one of the referral programs generating an interesting amount of revenue. The percentage varies by the item type and volume in any given month, however, the average comission for 2005 purchases to date is 5.67% for a total of $1057.38 on Amazon sales of $18,644.35
  22. But if you like it, it no longer meets the definition of offended.
  23. NYC permits can be obtained, provided you are willing to put up with the following: - Unreasonable fees both for application and renewal - A system where obtaining one in a year is considered "getting lucky", and the law is serious when it considers a requirement that they "update you on the status of the application within 6 months of application" is considered "speedy" - and no, they don't have a when they say that. - Unless you are very well connected or have a name like "Donald Trump", "Bill Cosby", "Howard Stern" or "Shaun Penn", you will be rejected if you attempt to get anything other than a "Target only, transport in locked case" sort of permit. And yes, the aforementioned individuals did get unrestricted NYC permits (the notation on a retired NYCPD officer's permit was "full carry"). - NYC has its own requirements as to what guns you may have. As with the rest of NY, all handguns must be listed on your permit before you take posession. I have heard they will not register certain handguns with a large capacity. Rifles and Shotguns require permits/registration in NYC and all the fun ones are banned - existing registration lists were used for confiscation purposes when they passed that law. CT will also mail order carry permits for non-residents.
  24. It seems kind of unfair to complain about the gas companies charging what the market will bear unless you're prepared to charge a "fair markup" rather than "what the market will bear" when it's time to sell your house.
