  1. From section 6.5 of the USPSA bylaws:
  2. The configuration file downloaded into a DOCSIS or DOCSIS-II complaint modem by the cable company contains a configuration parameter telling it how many mac addresses to concurrently serve - and this is generally set to one. In the described case, cloning the MAC address of the working maching into the router would have worked as well. If you have problems like this, one of this first things to ask you provider is "do you validate based on MAC address" - some require that your MAC address be configured at the ISP, wheas others do not.
  3. Go to the control menu of the router, find the MAC Address page, and select "Clone mac address". Which model router do you have? Rob
  4. Slick - squeeze some referral commissions from the decaying corpse of a dead company.
  5. She sure did. It was interesting that she demoed a JP, but they interviewed the president of Stag Arms.
  6. Some ISPs validate your connection based in the MAC address of the network card. The problem you describe would appear to be consistent with your ISP having the MAC address of your PC registered, but not that of the router or g/f's computer - so there is a chance the ISP changed their validation procedure. Look for the MAC Address Clone feature in your router and clone the MAC address of a PC that can connect directly - it may help.
  7. The IPSCDRL report from Paris warns that (a) if someone offers you the "gold ring you dropped" it's not gold, but a very nice highly polished brass ring, ( this person will pester you for a reward unless you duck into a high end hotel where this person dare not enter and © There is an excellent chance another person seeking a reward will hand you another "gold ring" you just dropped later in the day.
  8. I suppose one could hedge by investing in lead or lead futures if there are such instruments.
  9. I spoke to Brian about this, and the type of fraud he is being victimized by is difficult to prevent. People are submitting large bogus charges to his "donate" box. Brian generally catches these before the daily processing and cancels them (otherwise he'll be stuck with transaction and refund fees, and risk losing his merchant account if there are too many chargebacks). Why? My guess is that someone is attempting to use his site to see if a charge card is valid for large purchases before they hit the street. Gas stations have the same problem as criminals have been known to use self-serve gas pumps to try to validate stolen cards.
  10. Some info from behind enemy lines: 1. It's legal to possess > 10 mags in MA provided they are pre-original-federal ban and you have a license for them (yes, you read that correctly). 2. One may not possess a >10 round cap mag without a LTC-A (License to carry firearms, class A) 3. The MA Attorney General has re interpreted FOB to mean "sale takes place at the location where the order is placed" (a definition completely inconsistent with the uniform commercial code), and terrorizes ammo and double edge knife dealers with threats for selling ammo without a state license to sell ammo or selling illegal weapons (I can carry concealed in this state, but I'd better not get caught with more than one edge on my knife). SOP is to inform the seller they can pay a $5000 settlement or prepare for trial in a MA court. Similar intimidation is applied to sales of > 10 round capacity magazines. So, there are certain risks involved in offering such a product mail-order.
  11. Classifiers are uploaded to the web site monthly, shortly after the 10th of the month. This update contains all classifiers received by Sedro by the close of business on the 10th. There is generally a delay of a few additional days if the 10th falls during, or very shortly before, one of the USPSA national championships.
  12. I checked the database for the count on some of the interesting prefixes. These counts are for ALL members, not just those with current memberships. CA - 56 CL - 138 CAL - 1 B - 33 RD - 4 S - 1 I suggest you call Dave Thomas just to confirm CAL stands for what I think it does (I'm reasonably sure it does, however, I was shocked to find only one CAL number in the database).
  13. The small airport the DRL refers to is Stowe, however, it's really small - we're talking about a staff of one on duty and no commercial flight service. The Commodore inn is well regarded, as is the Sunset Motor Lodge. There is also the Plaza, but I am not familiar with it. The Sunset is actually a lot closer to the range than the match hotel but is sufficiently in demand that they offered no special deal to the match so it's not the "match hotel." The Commodore has wireless internet, whereas the Sunset has telephones.
  14. The complete list: A - Annual B - Benefactor CA - Charter Annual CAL - Charter Annual Life - CA members who have converted to Life members. This allows CA members to upgrade to life without losing a "super cool" member number CL - Charter Life F - Foreign FL - Foreign Life FY - Five Year FYF - Five Year Foreign HCL - Honorary Chairman Life, issued to Colonel Jeff Cooper L - Life RD - Regional Director - USPSA President the get an RD number and get to keep it for the remainder of their life membership. S - Sponsor - Not sure of the details - there is one member with an "S" number TY - Three Year TYF - Three Year Foreign
  15. There is one slot currently open on Saturday - if you act quickly you may be able to move yourself to that one. Contact "tom@dings.org" up until Thursday July 12 for any registration/squadding that does not involve an exception to the standard match policies. If you want anything outside of standard policies, or have any issue after July 12, you need to contact the match director Scott Chapman directly at "scot1911@aim.com".
  16. I live up here in MA - think I should write the Chappaquidick Kid asking for help?
  17. Bug introduced when adding the Sonopia banner - should work now.
  18. Since this is a "local rule", am I correct in assuming you have petitioned the USPSA President for approval as required by USPSA rules?
  19. My little buddy ran off for a bit when his collar failed - so he was running around with no clothes, no tag, and no ID. I found him relatively quickly, but the chip meant that did not need to immediately report it to every local animal shelter - if they found him, they would find me, since it's easier to call the owner to come and pay dog bail than to rehome or execute a lost k9.
  20. But on to the important question - do you list your USPSA membership on your CV? I know on surgeon who lists his RO certification on his medical practices "information for patients" web page, and "1911 society" on his c.v.
  21. Glad your family is back together. If you have not done so already, I suggest you look into chipping your dog - that will assure that any vet or shelter will be able to track down his family quickly, even if he runs off without his clothes on.
  22. No and no (see rules above). Bylaws can be changed, however, there are certain basic principles that I do not expect will ever be altered - and one of these is to have an independently run election which currently means having an independent CPA firm mail ballots and collect the votes. Once USPSA sends the mailing list to the CPA firm, we have no further involvement until we receive the results. We pay several thousand dollars for this independence - I could implement on-line voting for virtually nothing, however, that would not meed the standard of verifiable independence. I investigated using an independent election firm that allows for mail, phone or on-line voting, however, it never got to the point where I felt I could present a positive recommendation to the board. The company that offers this service this is reliable but greedy. The first time I contacted them, the commissioned salesman was unyielding on his requirement for a multi-year contract. They contacted me again a couple of years later, and told them I would present their information to the board if they could do it for a comparable cost. Based on my earlier conversation with them, it is my understanding the fee is about $1.00 per member - thousands more than our current cost. There were very engaged in the sales process, following up with me on a regular basis until my final email regarding pricing. I obtained the cost figures for an election (including mailing and CPA fees) from Dave Thomas, and emailed the election company telling them I was interested in presenting this to the USPSA board if they could do it for a similar cost, but that I would not give it my recommendation if their sales strategy was "it will cost a lot more, but it's worth it", and that I requested the courtesy of a reply in either case. I have not heard from them since.
  23. I found at optometrist who was quite experienced in such items just down the street from the local gun club. He recommended a focal point 27" ahead of the front sight as this would allow me to comfortably focus on the front sight, but leave my distance vision mostly intact. This was a +1 diopter adjustment, instead of the +1.5 I use for reading glasses. He suggested +.75 for the left eye since it would give me a bit better distance vision and still allow for a comfortable two eyes open shooting position. My normal Rx is -5.5 in one eye and -6.0 in the other, which is too much for wrap around joe cool glasses like those from Rudy Project. I settled on a pair of industrial safety glasses (wolverine) with detachable side shields as the shooting glasses. It doesn't look cool, but I see great and it protects the eyes from the front and sides nicely.
  24. A very effective technology if you can find a decent flat rate plan is a cellular modem. Wifi heeds ot be near an access point; Satellite has reliability and latency issues; but cell internet is available anywhere you can get a cell signal from your provider. You won't confuse the speeds with cable modem, but you won't mistake them for dialup either.
