Cameron, why would you spend $3000.00 ++ for a dawson pistol & only $600.00 for a AR? It seems you like nice guns , so at least give yourself a chance to compete against the other rifles.
It is'nt about how many A's you shoot at the match, but rather how many A's you said you hit at the bar that night. I personally shoot all A's at the bar.
I get several STI competators in each year. After doing a trigger job, recut feed ramp & polish, tune ejector & extractor, lighten slide & comp for speed & flat shooting , it usually costs about $350.00. For that added to the org. cost you can get a custom one built right the first time.
On low power, your scope needs to see at least 70 ft. field of view @ 100 yds. Also clear from 3 ft. to infinity. This will enable you to see at least 2 or more targets at a time.
If you use the 1.5x5 scopes w/ wide field of view, you should not need a red dot. I used one last year & never needed anything else even for in your face targets.
