  1. I took the Rifles Only "Precision Rifle 1 & 2 Combo" five day course last month and highly recommend it. Jacob Bynum is an outstanding instructor and has a great facility in Kingsville. I would go back in a heartbeat! Phil G
  2. Thanks for the update and the video. I guess it's going to be a while before we get to see reticle pics and comparison of dot illumination brightness with these new scopes for 2012. I was kind of surprised to see that Swaro even updated the 1-6X Z6i. What changes did Swarovski make to the Z6i 1-6x24 Scope? Phil G
  3. I have a Briley Light Mod extended choke tube which patterns great. You can get one here Phil G
  4. I use the HydroTac stick on bifocal on the lens of my shooting glasses on my dominant eye only. I place it in the top 1/3 of the lens so that I only look thru it when I tilt my head down. That allows me to engage the bifocal only when I am needing it to have complete focus on my front sight. The rest of the time I am looking thru the bottom 2/3 of the lens and it has no correction. It is not a perfect solution but it works better than anything else I have tried. Here is a link to get a bifocal replacement lens made for your dominant eye shooting glasses. It inverts the bifocal with the correction in the top 1/3. It does the same thing as the HydroTac stick on lens - it is just more permanent. I ordered the bifocal replacement lens several years ago and was very happy with it. Unfortunately, over time I needed more corrrection. So I ordered a HydroTac stick on lens with more correction to see if it helped. The HydroTac has worked well and I never got around to ordering a stronger bifocal replacement lens. I can move the HydroTac around on my shooting glasses to find the "perfect" location on my dominant eye lens. Phil G
  5. Benny, how do you tune where your slugs hit using the clamp? Is it about moving the clamp closer to, or farther from the muzzle, or cranking-down the screws on the clamp? I'm about to order a Nordic Components clamp for my 22" M2 in order to mount a sling to the gun for shooting the Blue Ridge Mtn match for the first time. Slugs out of my shotgun shoot extremely high, and I'm hoping that adding the clamp will help with that. Thanks! I'm not Benny, but this is what he posted on another "my Benelli shoots high" thread: "....with a nordic clamp, the more I move it back, the higher it shoots & move it foward, it hits lower." Phil G
  6. Do you have a link. I went to the "group buy" forum on Snipers Hide and couldn't find it. Thanks Phil G Found it - Group buy - TRG 260 Phil G

  8. Try McMaster-Carr See link Phil G
  9. A 1911 style recoil spring needs to be compressed to a length of 1.625 inches in order to measure its poundage. See the link on building and operating a homemade recoil spring measuring tool. See link. Phil G

  11. The thread linked below has a photo of a 21 inch Benelli barrel with a Briley extended choke and a Nordic extension tube (plus a 1 1/2 inch long Nordic magazine cap) that is flush with the end of the barrel. Since you are using a flush choke the Nordic 3/4 inch long magazine cap might be what you are looking for. See link Phil G
  12. Chemical deterioration of smokeless powder produces an acrid odor quite different from the normal smell of smokeless powders. You will know it when you smell it because it smells bad! Phil G
  13. I enjoyed the wisdom of his quote: "Am I not destroying my enemies when I make friends of them?" Phil G
  14. I have ordered several items from Optics Planet and am pleased with their service and prices. They send out discount coupons and codes to customers after your first purchase. The discount codes I have received ranged from 5% - 15%. Gives you a "good" reason to buy more stuff. Phil G
  15. I agree with G-ManBart. I suggest that you use a bullet seating die (with no crimp) and then use a taper crimp die in a separate operation. It is important to use a taper crimp die as opposed to a roll crimp die on a 45ACP. Lee as well as many other manufacturers makes a taper crimp die. The 45ACP headspaces off of the case mouth and a roll crimp can create a problem because the roll crimp forms a slight radius at the case mouth by pressing it inward against the bullet. Because the 45 ACP headspaces on the case mouth, a slight ledge must be left on the case mouth to provide proper positioning of a chambered round. Properly adjusted, the taper crimp die leaves the small ledge. Phil G
  16. I agree that they look stupid. The "selling point" for tinted license plate covers is to change the reflective properties to make it more difficult for red light cameras to identify the license plate numbers. I saw a Myth Buster episode a few months ago which demonstrated that they don't work. Phil G
  17. The general rule is the rear sight is moved in the same direction you wish to move the point of impact. If your shotgun shoots low you need to either raise your rear sight or a shorter front bead. It looks like from the photo that you have some remaining elevation adjustment and can raise the notch in the rear sight. If you raise the notch in the rear sight it will raise the point of impact on the target. If you raise the rear sight to the max and the point of impact is still low, then you need a shorter front bead. Phil G
  18. I taper crimp to my 45 ACP with lead 200 gr SWC to .469 - .470 and the rounds feed perfect and shoot well. A roll crimp could allow the round to chamber at an improper depth and create ingition and/or extraction problems. Phil G
  19. I have an older STI 2011 (actually one of the first frames when they had CMC inserts on the grips and were stamped Tripp Research on the bottom) in 45 ACP that I am going to try in Limited 10. Since it's 45 ACP it doesn't hold enough rounds to be competitive in Limited but should be great in Limited 10. It was built by Steve Nastoff back when he was still building guns. Phil G

    Where to go?

A good source for Sporting Clays ranges and events is Shooterspages.com. Here is the link for Arizona Ranges and Events Phil G
  21. I've had both slings. They are both good products. From my perspective there are two main differences. First, on the Blue Force (Vickers Combat Applications Sling - VCAS) you use the same tab to pull when you lenghten or shorten the sling. On the Viking (VTAC) you have to grab one tab to lenghten and a different one to shorten. Second, the Viking VTAC has a much longer tail when the sling is cinched up. Regardless of which one you select, I highly recommend the padded version. Phil G
  22. The Light Handicap contains 1 oz. of shot at 1290 FPS. The Super Handicap Heavy contains 1 1/8 oz. of shot at 1250 FPS. As long as your Benelli will run with 1 oz. loads, either should work on steel targets at typical 3gun steel target distances. Phil G
  23. What are spreaders? Spreaders are shells with a "special" wad that cause the shot pattern to "open up" or "spread" at a more rapid rate. In Sporting Clays, some shooters use a tight fixed choke. When they have a close target they will use a spreader shell to open up their patterns since they can't change chokes. My experience has been that Spreaders are generally more effective if used in a tightly choked barrel as opposed to a barrel with a more open choke. Spreaders are used in 3gun for the same purpose. A more open pattern than a standard shell. Phil G
  24. Finished product looks great. The logo is a nice touch. What is the weight of the bolt after milling ? Do you know how much weight was removed ? Thanks Phil G
