I've heard this is a good powder for 38Super and got 4#. Unfortunately, even with search I can not find any load data for minor loads or loads suitable for straight Gov. 1911.,, even VV has none listed...any ideas? Marine Corp Colonial Shooting Academy
  2. I just switched my tool head from 9mm to 38 Super. Suddenly my primers are just barely seating with most of the primer sticking out the base of case. Technically, there should be no need for an adjustment but I went ahead and adjusted the primer seater up but it went to high so as to catch the primer slide. (It is suppose to be flush) Perhaps I need to make sure the tool head is down all the way (bolt is firm).... Any other ideas of what could be the issue? I hate having to remove the plate to adjust the primer height every time....could my swage station be causing an issue changing from 9 to 38S? Marine Corp Colonial Shooting Academy
  3. I have run into the exact same problem and have narrowed it to two problems. If a different powder was shot in the gun before your test, I have found it takes one or two mags of ammo to recondition the barrel to the new powder. Secondly, I have a 1911 bullseye gun by a well known custom house and my first magazine would shoot a tight group, then the next two would open up. What we found was the barrel was not locking up the same way after the first magazine. I guess the heat was causing metal to expand and changing the consistency of lock up. One trip back to the gunsmith, all was well and consistency came back between different magazines...c

  5. Good response and is consistent with what I heard from users at the shot show... Marine Corp Colonial Shooting Academy
  6. Camdex or Ammoload? I hear good and bad about both with Camdex having an edge...we are looking to reload commercially to supply several ranges so we don't get stuck in the next panic...feedback appreciated... Marine Corp Colonial Shooting Academy
  7. I can't believe I did this...but I loaded 100 small primers in my large vibrprime and ended up loading 100 rounds of 45acp with small primers(I think). I usually use Winchester for L and CCI for small to avoid this but ran out of W. Can I shoot them with the small primers? I would have thought they would have jammed in the 1050 or something...my only evidence is some look at little smaller then others..mixed in with 300 total rounds....(looking at the empty boxes in trash does not help, there are too many).., Marine Corp Colonial Shooting Academy
  8. If it is still in there with old media, I would just turn it on and let it run for 15 minutes or so. If you have any Dillon Polish or other polish (brasso may work) add a few tablespoons and a dryer anti static sheet. It should look like new...
  9. I could be wrong, but I believe the standard military round for the MP-5 (US) is 145-147 gr bullets.(especially for suppressed where velocity is an issue) We have a bunch of mp5shooters at the range and they all shoot that weight....hey if it works..go for it... O yeah, for some barrels like Kart, the 115s shoot far more accurately in my 1911s the 124/125 but it all boils down to what each shooter is trying to accomplish and what their particular barrel likes...every barrel is different even if made at the same time on same machine....I'm an accuracy nut and if I can't get a round capable of 1 inch at 25 yds, my day is ruined...whereas z2-3 inches keeps many competitors happy who don't shoot Bullseye...it's good to have forums like this remind me of the basics... 10. Thanks Brian, that's my answer without a doubt! This forum saves me a ton of time and aggregation. Thanks again to BE for starting and maintaining it! C Marine Corp Colonial Shooting Academy
  11. Just order from companies that will let you back order and max out the poundage so deflect some of the Haz mat cost. It will come in a week or a month, but it will come...it's just beginning to show signs of loosening up as hoarding slows down... Marine Corp Colonial Shooting Academy
  12. Great idea! A tool head switch on my 9mm could be the answer depending on how much work is involved with the case feed....That's a no brainier! Another. S1050 would be great but I'm put out of space...and money! Marine Corp Colonial Shooting Academy
  13. I agree. It creeps up more then I like but Benos, post and keep it clean is the answer. When I don't feel, like cleaning again I spray some Mag Slick (thanks Patrick S.) and keep on going.... Marine Corp Colonial Shooting Academy
  14. Good feedback.,that's the problem doing a conversion on a 1050 from 308 to 38S. I have to spend the time to change out the primer feed, etc. as well. Someone that does it all the time could maybe pull it off in 20 minutes, but it will be a first for me. After my first 1050'in 45acp, I loved it so much I bought one just to load 9mm and so on. Now that I'm shooting volumes of 38 super, the 550 is too slow.... Marine Corp Colonial Shooting Academy
  15. Interesting negative comments on N-310 as it is one of the more popular Bullseye powders and was actually "discovered" by Bill Wilson...my favorite 45acp load is laser Cast 200 gr semi wadcutter, 4.5 gr of VVN310, OAL of 1,245, crimp of .68. It shoots 1 inch at 25 in all of my 1911 45s..better then I can shoot....I also like the reduced perceived recoil...about 850 fps.. Marine Corp Colonial Shooting Academy
  16. I like spraying a couple of shots of Dillon in my S1050 case feed hopper, throw in the brass and it coats itself as it turns. Was told this trick by a large commercial reloader. Yes, the hopper gets sticky, but I've loaded100,000 plus rounds with out cleaning it once or having a problem.... In my 550s I spray a couple of shots in a 2 gallon bucket, dump in the brass and swirl it around and start reloading. I never take the lube off after Reading an Enos post he found the Dillon lube dries to a waxy finish and seems to feed better in 1911s...that's also been my experience. Lube for me is to make the machines run smoother and faster. Never had a problem with bad powder or primer with Dillon lube but did with a bunch of others...has something to do with Dillon's blend... 17. I have the second head and conversion kit, but my whole purpose in having progressives is to save time. I can do a caliber change on a 550 in 5 mins or less but as I have my 1050's set up with the original caliber's I ordered on the machine years ago, this will be my first time doing it on a 1050 and realistically I'm looking at a full morning of work.... I just don't want to do all the work and find out for some reason I should not have tried to load 308 on a 550 when it's already on a 1050....I'm probably making this more complicated then it is...but we are talking changing swage bar, primer feed, powder feed, case feed, etc, etc. from large to small...time is money...
  18. I have 3 1050s with one in 45acp, 9mm and 308. I've been loading everything else on a couple of 550's. I shoot a lot of volume in handguns and lately have become addicted to 38S. I'm thinking about going to the trouble to change my 308 s1050 to load 38Super and load my 308 on a 550. My thought is, I shoot 308 for accuracy and not volume and with the amount of Super I'm shooting, it would be better served loaded on a 1050. The biggest lost is the crimp swage on the 1050 but Dillons hand crimp is fast enough to remove crimps for 308 cases in the volume I shoot..3,000 plus or minus a year. Am I missing anything or does this make sense? The 550 should load accurate 308 ammo...any thoughts or suggestions before I commit myself?

Congratulations, especially if your shooting it through a 1911. VV-N310, TG, 231 or any fast powder with the bullet loaded long is a winner! I shoot laser cast 200 gr SWC, 4.5 VVN310, OAL 1.245, crimp of .68 and consistently shoot 1 inch groups out of several 1911s from a rest...around 840-850 fps....hard to shoot anything else. I shoot the identical load with plated SWC for indoor range with almost same accuracy...
  20. THAT IS INCORRECT IMFORMATION. To the contrary I have read Bill Wilson told Patrick Sweeney he could not find a better round then the old H&G profile SWC bullets and they may actually feed better then ball. It in Volume I of the Book of the 1911 from memory. I've been shooting them through my Wilson's for years without a problem. It seems several folks in this forum, myself included have had better luck running the Xtreme 200 gr SWC longer at 1.245. Hope this helps.c
  21. Both Patrick Sweeney and Bill Wilson did extensive testing with 200 gr semi wadcutters of H&G style and felt it fed as well, if not better then, 230 ball. Whether I shoot Laser Cast or plated, my guns will shoot better groups then I am capable...I found their reports to be interesting. When you actually look at the way it hits the ramp...it is just about the same as ball...fwiw Marine Corp Colonial Shooting Academy
  22. Great help! I'll try then tomorrow at your OAL ....I'm at 4.6 at an OAL of 1.238 and got the accuracy but still does not feel right.. Marine Corp Colonial Shooting Academy
  23. I am now up to 4.6 gr of N310 loaded long to 1.240. The 185 Hornady wad cutters have a funny profile and I have almost no recoil and clearly is not hot.mhoenady calls for 4.o as the max with This round loaded real short. It is too short to cycle reliably in my 1911 but works fine at 1.240. How high should I take the N-310? Has anyone else used n310 with lots of case space and 185s? I'll have to pull out the chrono, but I can tell 4.6 isn't close... Marine Corp Colonial Shooting Academy
