  1. Recoil spring at 2,000 rounds? Send me your used one! I'm pretty sure my 1911 has gone over 10,000 on its original spring.
  2. I did this today, unintentionally, in a match stage. I wasn't sure that a round chambered, so instead of wondering, I racked the slide. At that time, I observed that not only had it fed a round into the chamber, but it also failed to extract that round, and now I had a double feed. Fortunately, I cleared it quickly, but it totally screwed up my plan on that stage and created a situation that I could have done without.
  3. A .45 isn't likely to be competitive in Limited. You'll probably have better luck in Limited 10, where the .45 is much more popular.
  4. Mind sharing your source? Who has deals on wilson mags?
  5. I wouldn't worry about lead bullets requiring more skill to load. I've loaded them almost exclusively since i started loading and no issues. The reality is that you simply must watch what you're doing and load within published loads until you learn how to break the rules ever so slightly. Just get the 147s and a powder that will drive them and go to town.
  6. 3.3-3.4 Solo 1000, 147 grain lead, SP primers. Minor, no pressure signs, low recoil.
  7. I've see this type of thing happen alot when guns get refinished, either they don't reinstall the sights properly or forget to put on loc tight or, in one case, my buddy got back different sights. I can't seem to tell what they did. I suspect that the rear sight never fit the slide, and that the front dovetail wasn't machined deep enough...but your guess is probably better than mine.
  8. Wow you guys... I really hated spring problems in calculus. Now my brain hurts.
  9. I've been reading a lot on here and I'm wondering what the motivation is for a lighter main spring. My gun still has whatever main spring came in it and I'm perfectly happy with the trigger. I may change to a slightly lighter recoil spring, but I'm reluctant to change main springs to anything lighter as it seems like an invitation for potential problems. Am I crazy to think that a heavier main spring is better as long as it doesn't create an unacceptable trigger pull?
  10. Who installed those sights? Whoever it is needs a spanking and to be banned from his or her mill for a while.
  11. I agree that the Comp-Tac is way nicer than the Blade-tech. If I didn't already have the Blade-Tech, I'd buy the Comp-tac (and I did for my production gun).
  12. JJ Recaza, who I shot with last weekend, said he prefers his 5". I asked him this exact question. He simply stated that transitions are faster with the 5". I would still probably go 6" myself.
  13. I use a Blade-tech holster and Tactical Kydex mag holders. I usually carry 4 mags on the belt and one in the gun.
  14. I have said nothing disrespectful, antagonistic, offensive, or quarrelsome. I have pointed out numerous empirical reasons why the Taurus PT 1911 is substandard when compared to its competition. The Taurus is VERY nice for a starter 1911 (way nicer than an RIA or similar) but it's not even in the same league as most of the guns on the market.
  15. Do yourself a favor and scroll down a few posts. All of your questions have already been answered. I'm breaking the rules of the forum? Get over yourself. The fact of the matter is that there is a market for a $500-700 1911 and a market for a $5000 one. Plenty of people here are happy with a cheap one. I'm not. The Taurus is an absolute piece of crap compared to even a Springfield Loaded.
  16. I have had the same results with Chip McCormick at half the price. I've been running my six CMC Power Mags for over 4 years. I do own two Wilson 47Ds as well.
  17. What is this opinion based on? Have you actually fired one? Yes. A very close friend of mine who shoots USPSA with me regularly owned one. I have not only fired it, but taken it apart and compared the parts very closely to the fit of my Kimber. My conclusion was that it fits together like the cheap piece of crap that it is. The beavertail wobbled and was fitted poorly. The trigger was absolutely horrible. The slide stop did not fit into the slide properly when it locked open. The mag well was incompatible with certain types of magazine bump pads. The slide to frame fit was absolutely horrible. There were a lot of good features on it. It has all of the features that you'd normally expect on a much more expensive gun. It also has the fit of a mechanical typewriter. My friend's gun was stainless so I can't say anything about the finish, but overall, the gun was a piece of junk and it's since been sold to another pistol newbie. I own two Kimbers (series I Yonkers Kimbers) and it's a night and day difference between what $6-700 buys you and $1000. YMMV.
  18. Shooting a 77SMK in USPSA is a waste of money.
  19. Use a Lee factory crimp die and you won't even care what length the cases are unless they're too long.
  20. I've yet to find a gun that will shoot the standard M80 ball accurately.
  21. I tend to think that the Taurus is a cheap piece of crap. Perhaps not a bad starter, but certainly nowhere near the fit and finish of a quality 1911.
