  1. At the club I shoot at we have weekly practice, and monthly matches. I also travel quite a bit to shoot state championships and a steel match here and there. Throw in IDPA....I shoot alot! You would think I'd be better buy now.
  2. Have you tried the SPS tubes?? Might be able to find those.
  3. I'm using STI tubes with grams followers and Dawson SNL base pads. I can shove 20 rounds in there, but a comfortable 19. I haven't had the tubes tuned yet, I should be able to get 20 once it's done. Crossing my fingers for 21!!
  4. I was tempted to take mine out too.... but once I saw how buried it was in the garage, I went back in the house and made some hot cocoa Tomorrow is supposed to be warmer
  5. I've been thru a couple thousand of them myself. No problems so far.
  6. I like this, I'm going to have to pick one up and try it out. I've got to find some time to read the Surefire articles Thanks much!! headlamp.jpg.bmpwhat about one of these? are they legal for any matches? These are not legal Tried it a couple of times and got a real funny look from the RO. Then went back to the shooting bag to grab the flash light.

  8. Smith has always had good customer service, at least in my experience. Had an extractor star problem (it wasn't machined right) on my 460XVR. Call them on a Monday had a shipping box at the house on Tuesday. Shipped it out on Wednesday. Got a call from them on Friday that they received the gun. Saturday afternoon the gun was finished and on my door step. They didn't just fix the extractor star, Smith replaced the whole cylinder!! Nice job and FAST turn around. I'll buy another Smith (or 2) anytime!!
  9. I've searched the forums on how to properly use a flashlight during low/no light stages with very little "current" information. I found a 2004 post describing the "cigar" technique. I've practiced it a little, but it just doesn't feel natural. From what I've read it does seem that there are not alot of dark stages in most IDPA matches. Anybody out there have any experience shooting in the dark with a hand held flashlight?? What technique works best for you??

    Sorry Ladies

I love the one where she was trying to gas up the BMW.
  11. I thought the exact same thing when I saw the number after my name. Thanks much!!
  12. :roflol: I didn't mind becoming a grandpa until I figured out that I now had to sleep with a grandma!! :surprise:
  13. I'm going to side with Matt on this. Had a buff in my Springfield SS, I was doing nothing but chasing problems. Extraction and feeding failures, more than I could count. Really screwed up my whole year. Pulled the shock buff out and it all went away. Now it my most reliable gun. I'll never use them again. If you want a shot at turning your gun into a Jam-O-Matic this is a good place to start.
  14. I work for a large manufacturing company, and it's no different here. They just put everybody on a 32 hour work week. Of course us guys that are on salary just went to 60. Can't complain too much though, at least I have a job.
  15. +1 My gun makes major with 4.8 and alot less smoke.
  16. I did this once about a year ago, the wife is still trying to figure out why her roses did so well. I didn't tell her what I did or I'd never have any to load with. just food for thought
  17. I shoot limited. Run 4, but have rarely used the 4th one.
  18. This is flat e-nickel factory Colt finnish... which is not a finish that could be improved with any of these sugggestions (to my knowledge) This is a 35 year old gun and it needs to have the finish stripped. It's a Combat Commander and I want to use it as a base gun for a re-build. Didn't realize it was a flat e-nickel finish, your right, what I suggested won't work. I'm used to seeing bright nickel, guess I just assumed. If your going to keep the finish as it is your not going to have to strip it completely, but if your going to put any other finish on it, then the old nickel is going to have to go. Check with some of your local platers, they should be able to do it for you. If you can't find one let me know, I know of a couple here in New York that can do it for you. Good luck on your project.
  19. Acid strip, it takes forever to remove nickel that way depending on the thickness. If you sandblast it there is a good chance of blowing all of the tolerances. Depending on what is wrong with your nickel you could probably buff out all of the imperfections. A brass or silver polish can remove all the light stuff. A polishing compound can get rid of the heavier stuff. Just don't over do it. e-nickel is tuff stuff!!
  20. 10mm brass let me know if you decide to get rid of any!!! I've got some good news for you, there is no need to purchase a new top end. The breech and extractor for a 10mm and 40 are the same. As long as you mags will accommodate the extra length of the 10mm over the 40 all you need is a 10mm barrel fitted to your current slide. Cant find a 10mm barrel?? A .40 barrel can be reamed to 10mm. As long as everything is fitted properly you should be good to go. PS, Need some help getting rid of 10mm?? I'll be the first to volunteer I'll let you know if I get overrun with extra 10mm brass! I know the extractor and breach are the same, which is why I was thinking a barrel swap would be all that's required. I'm not sure they can ream a .40 barrel to 10 because of the polygonal rifling, but I don't see why they wouldn't sell just a barrel since they list both barrels and top ends for most of their guns already. The other good thing is that since I load .40 long, the same mags should work perfectly. I just really enjoy shooting 10mm and this sorta struck me like "duh, why didn't you think of that before?". I think a call to Henning, as suggested by Krautwagon is in order. R, I forgot that they have poly rifling, your right that won't work out. Otherwise it should perform. I'd shoot 10mm more if it wasn't so hard to find brass at a reasonable price. I lose alot to the grass shooting in the summer. Thanks for keeping me in mind on the brass!!

  22. Thats AWSOME!! Who is "this guy" I have a couple of plain janes that could use a something different.
  23. Just around 3000 of .40 S&W. Never kept track of .45 or any of the other calibers. If I had to guess, I should easily be in the 5000 neighborhood. Hopefully, I should double that this year.
