  1. HS6 is one of the most violent, loud, nasty, dirty open gun powders I tried in my Open gun. Some folks use it for 9 mm major but I have a 38 Super, lots more better choices. My open gun minor load is 115gr with 5.0gr WST. All the open powders I tries have more flip and recoil than the faster WST powder as at minor the comp is not doing much. If you are running a uncompensated minor gun with 115gr Jacketed bullets try starting with 5.0gr of WST, for a 124/125 run 4.8 gr of WST or 4.2gr of TiteGroup. Clays and N320 are also good minor powders in 9 mm. If you want to really get soft buy some BayouBullets at 125 gr and put 4.5gr of WST behind them. http://www.bayoubullets.net Moly or these gator bullets will always take less powder and shoot softer at the same fps.
  2. Thanks, looks like Gans does that work on a routine basis. I won the 6" just wasn't sure it could be cut and threaded. My smith can't do it because he doesn't have the equipment for that.
  3. Actually I'm saying to cut the barrel para cut lug so that it fits Nowlin spec. I have a number of frames in both Nowlin and Para cuts and frames are the scared cow here. The Para cut is deeper into a frame than a Nowlin cut so it is impossilbe to convert a Para frame to a Nowlin frame cut.
  4. I have a para cut barrel that someone butchered by removing material from the front of it which makes it hit the end of the link before hitting the frame. Looking at the Para Cut barral and a Nowlin cut barrel it looks like it could be milled or ground to the deminsions of the Nowlin Cut. This would entail cutting the Para half moon front back flat and shortening the height on the ramp about .015. Anyone done this?
  5. I recently acquired a 9 mm Open gun top end but the barrel was cut wrong so it does not fit a std frame. ParaCut. The slide happens to fit nicely on several of my STI Frames. I have a 6" 9 mm BarSto barrel. Is it practicle or cost effective to have the barrel cut and threaded? This is a std barrel not a bull and should work with the cone comp. Barrel is new and has not been fit. Who does this kind of work and how much might cost?
  6. One way to minimize practice rounds is to focus on a particual weakness in that practice session. Today I'm going out to work on weak hand strong hand and that will be all that I practice, its my biggest weakness right now. I may run the Texas star a few times, its still taking me 6 shots to clean it, with the open gun and 7 or 8 with the limited gun at moderate distance of 15 yards. We have had it out to 30 yards at local matches. My average practice session runs about 500 rounds. I use what I call my NMQ ammo, Not match Quality. The ones that do not drop all that well or that were loaded when the shell plate slung a little powder out etc. I also have a 22LR conversion that fits both my limited gun and open gun and its not unusual to run a 1000 rounds in practice with the 22lr. I also shoot the rig in Steel mathes and its a lot of fun. I try to dry fire at least once a day, for 10-15 minutes, drives the wife crazy. Only the first shot is an actual trigger pull the rest are training the eyes and the brain to acquire the target faster. Reload practice over the bed or couch. Dropping them on the wood floor is bad for the floor. BigPops certainly has the right idea up in snow country but down here we shoot year round and today it will be sunny and in the 70's so the range I go. She's working so I go all day to play.
  7. Intermittant problems in gun, cars, and computers, become a TE process. Before I ran out a bought a firing pin I think that I would pull the current pin and examine it for defects and clean the firing pin tube out with some CLP or CRC brake fluid and a Q-Tip. Since you asked about changing it you probably have not cleaned it. I clean my firing pin tube and extractor tubes out about every 5000 rounds to keep it running like a top. There could be enough crud in there to make it malfunction intermtttantly. I think the jury is still out on Wolf Primers and they probably don't use Federal primers in Wolf ammo. None the less I recall the days of shooting factory ammo and I remember it was some nasty dirty caca the required frequent cleaning of the internals of the gun. I been at matches where shooters had trouble with factory ammo so its still within the real of possibility. Just be careful to disassemble it and reassemble it in a place where you can find the firing pin if it escapes. I have one in my welding shop somewhere, it shot out about 2 years ago and still have not found it. It was a Tanfo with a firing pin block I know where the block is the land fill. An my wife won't let me clean guns at the kitchen table as I lost a firing pin in the kitchen for a while, it was stuck in the cieling.
  8. I was using a Hornady but I threw it in with a Dillon 650 I sold since I got the big heavy dillon flip try. I should have tried it first, the Hornady cheap plastic tray flips primers better. There is one good thing about the Dillon heavy metal tray, when you turn it over the lid is solid and you don't bounce the primers. That helps a bit. Due to its size I now dump in 3 or 4 hundred primers at a time. Well maybe two, its easier to find on the bench when you got stuff all over.
  9. CHA-LEE - I think that you have come a long way in a short time. The better you get the harder it is to improve so you are right you will need to work hard at it to move up. You seem to be a serious shooter so stick with it, there are some top guys in your area take the opportunity to get some training. Motivation is sometimes hard to come by when that happens I sign up for a major match then I start serious practice for that match. Double Tap isn't that far off maybe you should think about it, let me tell you I shot it last year and its a great match. It is a speed shoot with close open targets but lots of speed bumps.
  10. I just boxed up all my non grooved shell plates to send to Hornady to get the groove cut for the EZ-Ject conversion. I was told it would take 6-8 weeks, say it ain't so! The EZ-Ject kit only took about an hour to install, some of that time went to readjusting the brackets for the Case Feeder. I only tried 45 and they ejected rather nicely since I have the case feeder, without the case feeder they seem to land on the arm that the case feeder slide rides on.
  11. I just want to set the record straight. After posting that the CasePro guy was hiding out in Pakistan I got a call from him and I now have the 40 and 9 mm die that I wanted. So I have to say he is back and producing CasePro's and parts. I already ran about 2000 9 mm cases thru the new die. These are for my new 9 mm open gun.
  12. I just finished developing a steel/minor load for my open gun. Its 5.0gr of WST behind a 115gr RN Zero hits 1140 fps. I have a light weight slide/comp and it runs with a 10# recoil spring. I like the feel so much I shot a USPSA match with minor and my scores were up 20% above major. We have a King of Steel match coming next week and I had to make the decision between my 22lr Conversion or the minor load, the minor load is easier to handle. You may need to re-zero the dot, I just wrote down how much I adjusted it (vertical only) then when I switch I just reset it that amount. Accuracy in steel is number one job, every run is faster without a miss.
  13. In that case, forget WST! It's inversely proportional on the temperature thing. In extremely hot weather, that load will barely run the gun sometimes. Sorry. Alan~^~ I'm currently playing in minor with 5.0gr of WST with a 115gr bullet. With a 124 gr I would run 4.8gr of WST. In the non temp sensative category of faster similar behaving powders I would try 4.4-4.6 gr of N320. The 115gr load has about the same recoil as my STI 22lr conversion, aka none shoots super soft. I am running it in a Briley with a lightweight slide barrel and comp with a 10# recoil spring. Your gun has a heavier slide and barrel so you might need to drop the recoil spring down some to run the gun. The 115 load produced 1140 fps. I tried a number of other powders with poor results. IMR7625, N350, and Accurate 7. All of the slow burning open gun powders produced more recoil. Two friends that run Auto Comp minor loads in their steel masters were complaining last Sunday about their arms, being hit by bits of unburned powder, I didn't have that issue. TiteGroup is also reverse sensative like WST it gets hot when its cold, plus nasty dirty and burns at excessively high temprature.
  14. Thanks guys. Looks like I got two options. I have a bid in on Ebay for a Safariland belt I know it will fit as I tried it on the Wife's belt, good thing she shoots CZ! The file and dremel stand ready should the bid fail.
  15. Hmmm.. I happen to have a Reeeel Carbine. The problem is finding ammo for it...LOL... Ok Merlin here is a link to the ammo https://surplusammo.com/index.php?main_page...0cbe49c809da1a9 They got plenty and you go plenty of time go get it.
  16. Since that Jihad made it thru the walk thru with the explosives I thought we would be taking more off than our shoes to go thru security. The problem with our approach to these radicals is that we are not detering them, they want to die and get the virgins. Well I got the cure for that. Two weeks after they get the cure then they can be executed, rather than you and I paying to feed them for the rest of their life. I don't think they will have much use for the virgins. Cure for Jihaddist Burdizzo The burdizzo is a metal instrument that severs or crushes the cords and associated blood vessels leading to the testicles. This stops the blood circulation to the testicles so that they degenerate within the scrotum. This is also a bloodless method of castration. When using this method, be sure that both cords are severed or crushed. The cords are located above the testicles.
  17. Dave _ I like the Precision 200gr SWC with 4.3gr of Clays loaded out to 1.260. Nice big holes and shoots so soft I'm running a 12# recoil spring in the gun. If your gun won't handle SWC's they got RN as Well. http://precisionbullets.com. I'm currently testing Bayou Bullets Http://www.bayoubullets.net they take a little less powder to go the same speed.
  18. Well if Murkish can get three more Reeeel Carrrbeeeennn shooters to sign up I'll make a fifth.. If not I'll just show up with my black rifle.
  19. I picked up a LimCat holster and tried to get it on my AA belt. The belt is just way too think for the holster. Does some one make a differenct top for this holster that works with thicker belts? Will it work on another brand of belt like the CR Speed belt? Am I stuck using a Safariland Belt?
  20. Letting 9 into major in Limited will cost everyone shooting limited money and harm the sport, let the guys with 9's spend the money a go to a major caliber, or quit their whining and shoot A's. I shoot my 9 mm Infinity in Limited and have no issue with minor scoring.
  21. Scott - My smith took my HPF Edge to just under 2#, I have since shot about 3or4K and its has gotten even lighter. KevinG has the lightest trigger I have seen at 3/4# on his open gun. The problem with these light triggers is after a while the sear wears and it starts to follow and needs to be recut. If it gets worn you will notice it will follow some times in unload and show clear, this is when to take it in to be re-cut, before it unloads a mag in full auto. In dry fire don't let the slide slam shut, like releasing the slide lock, as this will cause damage to the trigger parts over time. Sounds like your Edge is ready to go, Good Luck.
  22. Wow I'm sure some one has that answer. Since I deal in limited space longest distance down the hall is 12 yards what I typically do is use a felt tip marker and put a + on the target and the sights must lock in on the + not just the paper at all distances. This calls for a lot more precision espcially when drawing to the target. You might want to just draw a small box on the target to represent the A-Zone rather than the +.
  23. I don't have a load for a 147gr. I'm shooting 125gr jacketed behind 4.2gr of TiteGroup in my Infinity 9 mm limited gun and it shoots like an air soft. I going to load some N320 and try it at 4.3 gr, and hope that it is hot enough so that the gun doesn't seem sluggish. My question is what is the advantage of the 147gr wouldn't that just slow the gun down to the point where you would be waiting on the slide? My splits are typically .18 and the gun barley keeps up with that now, with 9 lb recoil spring. I thought it was ok to drift a bit since the tread went to the coffin.
