  1. Welcome from just down the road in Dundee
  2. Sorry but designers intent means nothing, Sure it does. If a swinger or drop turner is included in a stage, and the designer intended those targets to be reset between shooters, and activated during the run, then the designer's intent does matter -- in ensuring that the stage is consistently reset and consistently presented to each competitor. (Designer's intent doesn't matter in terms of freestyle -- if the designer left a hole for the shooters to exploit, well, live and learn....)I don't think a properly reset stage and designers intent are the same thing. I think a properly reset stage is a competitive equity issue
  3. I found a very wide brimmed straw hat with black fabric stitched to the bottom of the brim that does a great job blocking the sun but is still light and airy so wear. I found it in the surf/swim area of a large sporting goods store, I think it had a Billabong badge on it but whatever it was I took it off so it didn't look so surfer
  4. We do registration on a tablet (lately a iPad but we have also used my samsung) to facilitate the squading we have paper squad sheets on the desk in front of the stats person taking the money and entering the shooters. You pick a squad as you sign up (or you friends pick one for you) the sheets are avaliable to pre squad before we start registration. This seams to work pretty well, the paper squad sheets are SOP from the pre Practiscore days and everyone is familiar with the system.
  5. Sorry, I'm pretty new to match management (to a point where I have to read the rulebook again before each match), what do you mean by "iOS version can upload produce both results for practiscore.com"? In EzWS I can generate the "webfile.txt" which is essentially the match results and the -.txt which is the club activity report (the one which requires payment to HQ). Can iOS version generate and store on internal memory both files? I'll need to wait for my *iPod* (sadly no iPad) to charge before I can try iOS PractiScore on it. Both the android and apple versions can create AND upload match results to practiscore.com.NEITHER version can create the upload file for MATCH RESULTS to upload to uspsa.org. ONLY the apple version can create the upload file for club activity reporting, to be uploaded to uspsa.org. YOU then have to get that file over to a computer for actual uploading. Weird we have been uploading match results files to USPSA generated on a I device for months now,
  6. Between the Android and IOS versions (it's a good idea to have both) there is no need to use EZWinscore at all any more. We imported our database of shooters to our master tablet (we use a old iPad for that) we register shooters at the range on the master tablet (this is at least as easy as it was in EZWinscore) we normally define our match and stages on whatever devise is handy (either a tablet or phone) and sync it to the master for registration. We use Nooks for stage devices (cheep, easy to read in the sun, and no issue with battery life) I prefer the scoring interface on the Android version of PS to the IOS version. At the end of the match we use the master to upload the results to PS and email the files needed to upload to USPSA to ourselves so we can upload those. I watched a local club doing the dance between Ezwin and PS and it sure looked like a lot more trouble.
  7. I see no reason to score the targets if the shooter was stopped before finishing the course of fire, if the DQ is overturned then the shooter will have to re-shoot the stage if it was scored or not.
  8. Yes it is worth bringing to the MDs attention, (assuming the MD is acting as RM for the match like most club matches) the game has rules and they need to be followed regardless of match level. if the MD wants to have you shoot something a certain way he has two choices, compell the action through use of props and vision barriers OR if a level one match he can compel some things through the stage briefing, that's it no other options, if it gets gamed and he doesn't like it he can fix it next time
  9. I'd say about 1/2" thick and the same width and height as the gun. Obviously more is better for thermal mass, but then it will get to a size that's not fun to carry around.I have a 12" x 8" x 3/4" piece that I keep in the bag to set down and work on the gun at the range also. There isn't always a great place to bang around on things at the range. If good direct contact is made, aluminum and copper pull heat out much faster than water. I'll PM you a link to a guy on ebay I buy scrap bits from at a good price How exactly do you get good contact between a block of aluminum and a round gun barrel?
  10. Like Atlas said earlier the pins taper and if too many coils are cut on the return spring the tapered section gets stuck in the hole in the breach face.
  11. I haven't had any under gasses issues except with winchester super x, mine flat won't run those. Tooth and Nail has a low power recoil spring that should fix that
  12. Why limit to Small frame witnesses? The large frame guns aren't actually significantly larger just the magazines are different.
  13. What's realy fun is when that happens during a match, it sticks forward after one stage and the stop falls out at make ready on the next but you don't notice that till you drop the slide and the firing pin shoots out over your shoulder. And good times
  14. When it's stuck back like that, check that the barrel is actually what's holding it open it should be loose in the slide and frame at that position you can check by wiggling the muzzle end of the barrel. The position it's locking open looks like the hammer may be catching on the firing pin safety
  15. I believe (I haven't double checked just going off my memory) the difference in length on larger Vs small frame firing pins is on the hits the primer end so if you had to have an extended one you could cut down a large frame one. Then you could trim it to be flush with the beach face thus being the ultimate extended pin.
  16. I never said anything about trying to allow the people to shoot on an unsafe stage either! Stop putting words in my mouth!!Yes, I AM a CRO, and I KNOW that you could have thrown out the STAGE, and that would have been MY call! Who the HELL said anything abou throwing the whole match out?!! I said throw out the STAGE that was affected. It's done all of the time. They threw out a stage at Nationals last year because if a swinger that was not set up correctly, (stage 7 IIRC.) They couldn't reshoot everyone, so they threw out the STAGE. 1. The stage was deemed unsafe. 2. Everyone WAS NOT given an opportunity to reshoot it. You offered a 1 day format. You didn't honor it. The fact that it was a 3 day match is immaterial. Acts of God and range equipment malfunctions are NOT the shooter's responsibility. Throwing out the ONE STAGE would not have ruined the entire match, and would have been fair to ALL competitors. From what I have read it appears there was more than one stage involved. The OP was only affected on one but the other shooters were affected on others. So with that info do you still throw out all the stages where the shooters were Un able to come back and finish? Do you throw out all the stages and not give the option to finish the next day?
  17. My worst stage plans also tend to be on stages I drew up, I end up planning to shoot them the way I thought them up, the reality on the ground is often way different.
  18. Muzzle flash, apparently Chuck missed seeing a couple of us shooting American Eagle ammo last year, the fire ball is pretty impressive, especially on of the SBR one guy was running (bright yellow flames about two feet each way out of his comp) other than that though he is correct most ammo was pretty tame
  19. I occasionally mooch a plan but that is not the norm. Would never mooching a plan affect my match scores, yes, normally when I end up mooching it because to plan I had sucked and the one I stole is way better and the score reflects that.
  20. I like both of these approaches, and have heard both in various RO courses......I think the first example would be ideal but unfortunately we can only guess the shooters intent (sometimes we can be pretty sure but it is still just a guess) so I will stick with the fact based approach. Was there a start signal? We're they moving when it was given? This is one of the reasons we don't use the random delay feature on the timers, otherwise we would be giving lots of creeping procedurals (how many times have you seen, stand by, pause, shooter almost falls over, shooter resets themselves and get are you ready again?)
  21. The DNROI has already said leaving the back strap off a M+P is not legal so I don't see him saying a modified back strap is.
  22. At my RO course it was explained like this. If the shooter is moving and you can't stop yourself from giving the start signal then that would be creeping if you don't give the start signal then it's a false start.
  23. The DQ "traps" I don't like but see regularly are side ports in hallway type stages where there are target facing the port that are somewhat equally spaced down range to up range but the up range target or targets are beyond the 180 so if the shooter doesn't program in their walk through that I can only shoot the other end or two targets on the down range end of what appears to be a slightly spread out array and just shoot them as they see them they get sent home. While I'm not big on the whole nany state thing I do see it as my job to build stages that are fun and chalanging and I found I can do that and make it so the shooter can't shoot the face of a target beyond the 180 so that's what I do, so far the only thing it has cost me is extra time and props,
  24. The answer I was given was, sync the new device to the old device for a bunch of matches, not very elegant but it worked
