  1. That 18 nrr was a little bothersome to me. Premium price for a less than stellar noise rating
  2. Yeah I've read thru all those posts. If I drop the coin on the Sordins who has the best price? I just can't make myself spend over 200 bucks.
  3. Graham , like I mentioned earlier, they are super comfortable, light , just about everything you'd want in a muff only that terrible "PING" when shooting. I noticed it much more when ROing before or after I'd shot It's like the suppression isn't catching that first millisecond of blast and it's reaching my eardrum. It only took one match for me to realize these aren't for me. Not that I have anything against Howard Leight. I had a set of early electronics back in the early-mid 90s that served me well. Had the great big ole Peltor Vietnam chopper pilot model. Had a couple pair of cheap off brands. Most recently have used the radian pro amps for 5 or 6 years. Started using them shooting sporting clay tments cause they fit the stock so well. Has anyone else experienced that ping from their Impacts? Or is it just me?
  4. That should read " I'd rather use cheap muffs". Apple spell correct!
  5. Bought a set of leight impact muffs and they suck. I'd rather use my old $60 radians. I can't justify the cost of Sordins or Pro Ears. I've read all the posts on muffs but want some real world input. What are you using and what do you like/ dislike the most? I like the way the impacts fit and feel but I get a high pitch "ping" on each shot that by the time a match is over, my eardrums are ringing. I'd rather use aches per muff that shuts down reg electronics than use these. Ed
  6. Fords guns in crystal river. 1 of the best polishers and bluers in the nation

    .44 Special

The 44 is special. I've been a long time "Keith " shooter and own several factory and custom 44 spls. There honestly is not a more all around ctg than the 44 sol. Not real picky to load. Very easy to shoot. Accurate. And so on. Congrats on your new friend. You may find yourself in a new relationship very soon.
  8. Out of stock again. BUT he said he should have some in a few days.
  9. I have called all the gun part companys I know of with no luck. Found one shop in Ark. who claimed to have it and when I ordered it, not available. Thanks for the heads up on this one. I ordered it. Hopefully they have it in stock. Ed
  10. Gun is a Hi Standard .380. I have searched and searched and searched to no avail. I have an old mill but no access to a lathe. The local machine shop won't take on small jobs like this. It's not a complicated pin either. Hopefully some of you home machinists will take it on for me. I can email a dimensional drawing or send you the old pin if neccesary. Thanks, Ed
  11. Flex hones from Brownells are designed for chamber polishing. Have used them for years. search them at brownells. Several grits available from coarse to fine
  12. AFter looking at 23 pages of others, I'm gonna throw mine in. These are 2 I built several years ago. The top is a LW commander on Caspian frame and slide, IIRC all Ed Brown parts, SS slide and alum frame left white. The second is my buddies, also built on Caspian. Commander slide and officers frame (before anybody else was doing it) Ed Brown parts done in Moly Resin black. This little thing will flat shoot. It will way outshoot my commander and will nearly hang with my EDGE.
  13. I used a soldering iron, ground the tip down to the shaoe of a round ball and dimpled or golf balled the front and backstrap. I really like it. Feels good in the hand and has just enough bite but not so much it wears you out after 150 rounds.
  14. Sounds more like an inconsistent crimp to me. Bullseye is usually very consistent. Check your crimp and make sure it is good and consistent. Crimp is dependant on brass length so if you are using various headstamps that have multiple firings, crimp will be inconsistent at best due to various brass lengths. Find you 20 pieces of brass that are all same brand. Measure length and make sure all are within a thousandth or two at the most. Load with the same powder charge and same bullet. Seat and crimp in seperate operations. If you are seating and crimping in the same die, back off the die body until no crimp is applied, deepen your seating stem to correct the depth and seat all 20. Back off the seating stem, tighten the die body back down until you get the desired crimp and crimp all 20. Run them back thru the chrony and see what happens. Ed
  15. Anybody else notice when he hired Flem, he asked him if he could TIG weld, told him to weld these pieces up, then it showed him with a MIG gun? Reminds me of last year on Top Shot when they were shooting the Beretta 92's and somebody thumbcocked it. Had a soundbyte from a Ruger SA being cocked!
  16. I have 2 LNL's set up, one running 40 and one running 38SC. Nary a hitch on the 38/9mm setup. I wouldn't even bother with trying to figure it out if it were me. Call Hornady 1st thing Monday and let them figure it out or replace it for you. They are great at customer service.
  17. Can't believe only one other mentioned Satch! All of these are great in their own right but Eric Johnson and Joe Satriani really are masters who rarely get the respect they deserve! That said, Eddie and SRV are probly the most recognizable sounding than any. You just know who it is when you hear SRV or Eddie their sounds are so unique.
  18. Haven't seen one in person but the word is it's a walther p22 dressed up like and M&P. That's Bad! the little p22 is a major glitch machine. check out some of the other major gun forums for a report on it. Seems Smith had a chance to sell a ton of these M&P22's if they had been done as a M&P chambered in .22 rather than a redressed Walther. I hope I'm wrong but friends who were at SHOT gave me their opinion after looking at it.Ed
  19. I can't believe nobody uses Birchwood Gun Scrubber! I buy it by the case. Great aerosol solvent. Evaps quickly. Won't harm finishes. If you are using it on a poly frame gun, they make a synthetic safe version. You can literally blast the crud out, use a qtip to clean the corners and crevices, relube and reassemble. Easy as pie. It's also a hella good wasp spray!
  20. Gil Ash is one of the premier Sporting Clays Coaches around. Take a look at their vids at OSPschool.com
  21. Ford's will mill it off. www.fordsguns.com
  22. I got it figured out today after a bit of head scratching. Loaded up 5.2gr 231 this morning and shot it---- with the same results!! I was really starting to wonder what was going on. I left it alone and thought hard about it for about 4 hours. One thing that I had overlooked, the gun was dry. No lube. Stainless slide, stainless frame, stainless barrel running dry. SS on SS galls! Took out my tube of slide glide and greased the rails, barrel lugs and cone, put 5 of the 5.2 loads in it and BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM just like new. Grabbed a handful of my old load (4.8gr) and it ate them up and spit them out like watermelon seeds. When I got the slide back from Freedom, I threw it into the blasting cabinet and gave it a glass shower then washed it down with MEK. I had also stripped and cleaned the frame with solvent and qtips to get the gunk and old grease out. When I got it back together I never did put any lube on it! Now I can get back to spring tuning as the slide velocity is definitely faster after being lightened. Thanks to everyone who chimed in offering suggestions. I was about to pull what little hair I have left out.
