You guys have way too much free time....You could put out some very small landmines in the yard, though
  2. I am somewhat like Jack. I have made a few close friends over the years and a lot of aquaintances. My best friend is really my wife. We spend the bulk of our time together working, shooting, and just talking. I consider myself very fortunate to have found the few people who are really close to me. Through work, I have met a lot of folks lately who have absolutely nobody in their corner when they need them. Appreciate those around you.......My time is split between a few hobbys and work, mostly work.
  3. If you don't like what was done you may be able to lodge a complaint at that club or just move on to another. I don't think it appropriate for any of us here to comment on the judgment used at the club that put you on probation unless we were there and witnessed the incidents you mentioned and of course all of the matches leading up to them. Just my .02
  4. Then why do our all-revolver squads always seem to be waiting around for the bottomfeeders to get finished and move on to the next stage? Hmmm? Sounds like revolver shooters do whine less!
  5. I have been loading Silhouette in 38super for a while and really like it. It is not squeaky clean but what residue is left is soft and powdery and presents zero problem for me. It is also cheap and readily available from all of the big on line retailers. After loading super for 3 years or so and going through a lot of different powders, this is the sweet spot so far.
  6. Hmmm, lots of good posts here and it sounds like a fun well run match, but I must be missing something with this one. Please enlighten me as to how Single Stack is less about the gun and more about shooting than Limited division is. Both divisions are equally fun to shoot as well as equally challenging. Not to put words in Jacks mouth, but I think he is talking about how not everyone was shooting a widebody yet in limited, so the classic took the capacity issue off the table. Ben's correct. I'm basically talking about 12 years ago - or there abouts. When limited first became a division the double stack craze was already in play. CZ's and S (T, V, etc. etc.) I's were in. And Para's were prevelant. At the time, Springfield didn't have a double stack option. We shot plastic framed open guns because that was really the only way to be competitive in the division, but Robbie felt like we (ok - he) could compete with a SS in limited despite the capacity difference. So we shot single stacks against the double wide guns for several years. Robbie won several titles. The rest of the team faired ok as well. The SS classic, at the time, was a relief because it took away the advantage of capacity. Now, I don't know what the top dogs shot this year but even the SS classic evolved. I remember the first year .40's started showing up, and I was still in a .45 set up. Those two shots made a difference! I remember being miffed, but got over it. I've done the all out open gig. And I've gone ditch to ditch on it. I personally contend that limited is the single most competitive and skill required division in the game. That's an opinion only, fortunately for me - it's mine. I'm also like Ben in the feeling that all those "boring" stand and shoots actually test skill. I'm in for a mix of stages - but short movement, small round count, get 'er done type stages are right up my preference alley. They test skills. They eliminate a ton of luck factors and put a very simple test in front of a person. Matches where a shooter only has to do 4 maybe 5 reloads in the whole match don't fit well with me. I like matches that test the way we did things in the old days. You had to shoot well. You had to move well. You had to draw well and you had to reload well. You had to be great at everything. And any flaw would quickly steal 5 points here and there on EVERY stage. Didn't mean to allude to any division needing more or less skill. They all need skill. Some have a deeper base of skilled shooters (IMO - that's limited), and some divisions have a larger emphasis on not making mistakes. At the end of the day they all test one's ability to do what the individual can do at the time they need to. And that is the beauty of the game. As one great golfer once said "Golf is 90% mental. The rest is in your head" J j1b, I didn't take it that way. Thanks for going into the history of the match. Seems like it was an interesting and very dynamic time to be involved in practical shooting.
  7. I always polish the insides of a new tube for better function. I use a felt wheel and dremel with Flitz polish.
  8. I just went through a month of research on all of the options available in hybrids and SUVs. My analysis as well as consumer reports says that for the kind of driving I do, hybrids don't pay for themselves over the life of the car. Do the research and do an honest analysis of your projected savings in gas over the next few years and see if they are really gonna save you a significant amount of money. As for gas SUVs, I looked at Mazda CX7/9, Honda CRV, Saturn, Nissan, and Lexus. We ended up buying a certified pre-owned AWD Lexus 330. REALLY nice car It makes getting up at 630am to drive to matches much nicer.

  10. Unfortunately, You generally get what you pay for in optics. Last Aimpoint I got used cost me $140.00. I have seen PDP3s sell for $40.00 on here as well but in my experience they will only last a few thousand rounds even on a .22 rimfire and they always seemed to go out at the worst time for me All of the halo sites that I have played with are just too big and bulky for me.
  11. Check out the Magellan's through Costco, if you are a member. I have a 4300 that has been great and costco's price was the best I could find, period. I prefer the Magellan interface to the others but that is all personal preference. Costco also offers the best no questions cash back return policy on electronics.
  12. I have a MKII with an Aimpoint XD. Very nice setup for steel.
  13. We got some of these at TASC, thanks Ira It showed up on two stages yesterday and it was great fun to shoot and to watch how others deal with it. One stage used one activated by a pressure plate and the other was popper activated. Lots of no shoot head hits from our squad.
  14. Is the pursuit for the aluminum comp ALL about reducing the weight? What other factors make this such a desirable material?

Dave, A real man would shoot this at the next richmond long gun match
  16. Very nice gun! In fact it looks just like mine Got mine right before Area2 this year and it has been great. Dan's grip treatment is especially nice, enjoy.
  17. I am not a fan of the Lee Factory Crimp Die. I have never seen a need for it and it does not seem like a good idea to me to resize the round after the bullet has been seated. It may work for you, though. I set the crimp die to just take out the case neck bell put in by the powder funnel and no more. If your resize die has done it's job, no more is needed. I measure the final case neck dimension across the top of the case with a caliper.
  18. Hmmm, what a concept. Charging for design fixes
  19. The way I fixed my "Primer Catcher" issue was to fold over a business card and tape it across the top of the cup. Yes, the aluminum bullet tray is definitely a better setup. Saves me lots of movement over the plastic bin.
  20. As far as I know it has been legal, as in not prohibited specifically by the rules, for at least 5 years. It seems counterintuitive to allow a racker in limited but it is OK.
  21. My wife and I use Aimpoints on all of our open guns. No washout even at the dimmest setting regardless of the position and intensity of the sun.
  22. As Shred mentioned already, I would not be worried about an Aimpoint at all. A CMore is another story, though. When my wife was still shooting a Cmore, she had issues with the battery compartment leaking in the rain causing the dot to go out. Do you have a gun cover to kep it dry?
  23. I run silhouette in my 38super open guns. I load montana gold 124gr JHPs to 173pf using small rifle primers and see zero pressure signs or unburnt powder. I have been loading super for 3+ years now and have loaded silhouette, HS6, IMR7625, N350, and 3N38. Seems to me that the silhouette is the best choice for pricing, availability, and performance. Bump the load a bit and it should run fairly clean.
