  1. Pretty Good! What shape bullets are you using. I notice a hesitation as you insert the rounds into the cylinder and then as the speed loader drops, you are back up to speed. A round nose bullet slides in much faster than say a SWC. Thanks. I'm using round nose bullets, but they're pretty dinged up from practice. Not to mention it always seems like they're not "lined up" when I go to insert them. I prolly need to work on that. Thanks. This is for IDPA SSR, so I gotta stick with the speedloaders for now until I wanna play in ESR.
  2. Oh yeah...686 and Comp3's, since you prolly can't tell from the video.
  3. I shot some videos of an El Prez type dry-fire drill (without the turn, hands at sides) and would like some pointers on anything you guys see. Sorry for the crappy video, it was taken with my cell-phone. I didn't let the trigger reset in a couple of them, and I AM pushing the ejector rod even though the cylinder is empty to start with.
  4. Thanks, CW! I'm really not the photographer in the family...it's my wife's camera and it does all the work (Digital Rebel XT). It's a couple generations old now, but it still takes great photos, so we're not gonna upgrade anytime soon. Don't worry, I still have the two-tone G34 that replaced the 17:
  5. Got the rig together and shot a couple of matches this weekend. Love it!
  6. They're the stock grips on the SSR. It also came with a set of Uncle Mikes finger-groove rubber grips that are on it right now. I found it was easier to get a consistent grip on it with the grooves.
  7. Yeah, I saw that after watching the video. Thanks, Bill.
  8. Shot my first IDPA match with a revolver yesterday. I picked up the 686SSR about a week ago and I've dry-fired it till I have a blister on my finger. I'm classified SS in SSP but not classified in SSR yet. The first few stages were rough (I had very little live-fire time before the match- only about 70 rounds or so) but by the last stage I was getting a feel for it. I saw the sights lift, which rarely happened when shooting SSP. The last stage was an 18-rounder. My time was 18.32 with 2 points down. Here's youtube video: (pointers would be great!)
  9. Thanks, Duane! The grips are great, functionally, but they're kinda cheesy lookin' IMHO. I've got huge hands but skinny fingers, so finger-groove grips usually don't fit me very well. That's why I thought about giving the JM grips a shot. Are they fatter side to side? They look to be a similar profile as the stock grips front to back.
  10. Well, after weighing the pros and cons of each I've decided to shoot SSR this year. I found a 686 SSR locally and I'm picking up a Ready Tactical holster and speedloader pouches tomorrow. I have some Comp III's on the way from Midway; they should be here in the next day or two. I really like the grip of the 686 SSR. I tried the rubber finger-grooved grip that came with it, but the grooves didn't line up with my fingers. I'm thinking about getting a Jerry Miculek grip, which looks to be about the same profile of the stock wood grips but without the cheese. I have a buddy making me some dummy rounds to practice reloads with, and I plan on shooting it at a match on Saturday. Here she is:
  11. Picking up my Ready Tactical holster and speedloader pouches on Tuesday...Comp III's should be here sometime this week. It'll be shooting it's first match Saturday.
  12. 686 SSR for IDPA Stock Service Revolver division. Bought yesterday.
  13. There are several fine wheelgun shooters around these parts. That sucks...thanks for the heads up. That may sway my decision. Never thought about that...230gr. bullets travelling at a mind-numbing 543 FPS to make PF LOL. Thanks, Joe. Alex Stephenson
  14. I've been shooting SSP with a Glock 17 or 34 for a couple of years (still a SS, but I've made noticable improvements as of late). I've been shooting at least 3 matches a month, and I feel that I need a change of pace before I get burned out. I'd like to try a new division and get a new gun to go with it. I just sold my G17, and I'm looking at either the STI Spartan (probably from Brazos with their "High Performance Package") or the S&W 686 SSR. Any input would be appreciated.
  15. Only 1- a 550 purchased from Brian. Complete caliber conversions for 9mm and .223.
  16. I doubt anyone would buy them, considering they're no smaller than their 9mm counterparts.
  17. He's one confident SOB...rightly so, though, I guess.
  18. I've installed a ground-down extended magazine release on most of my glocks. The 34 and 17 pictured below are used for IDPA regularly.
  19. That's a stock G34 (with aftermarket sights, of course), which just so happens to be a fantastic gun for IDPA SSP and USPSA Production.
  20. LOL!! I was expecting some new-fangled contraption that I was gonna have to buy. I'd rather pull my own handle...
  21. I load my 9mm rounds to 1.130" and they work just fine in my G17 and G34.
  22. Who here uses the holes in the toolhead stand to bolt them to something. With the powder despenser on the toolhead it seems like it's a little top-heavy. I'd hate to bump it and it fall over.
