  1. And yes, it's always that neat. And NO...I'm not opening the cabinets LOL. (not NEARLY as neat at the top)
  2. I had a Blue Christmas (and a little orange, too) so I thought I'd take some pics of my office/reloading room in its most current state. Here's the bench with the condoms on. I got the quickchange setup for .223 from the wife for Christmas, and it's the one on the press at the moment. I loaded my first few rounds of .223 this afternoon. The 9mm toolhead is on the stand. Here's a closeup of the press (and Ms. January 2009 in the Dillon Aero calendar). Here's the bench with the condoms off: Spinning around the room: Directly behind me when I'm loading:
  3. Yeah, the ports are a ticket into Open in USPSA. The other option would be get one with a longer barrel and have it cut down to your desired length, cutting off the ported part of the barrel while you're at it.
  4. My minor PF reloads don't cycle the slide as reliably as I'd like...stovepipe every 100 rounds or so. 136 PF.
  5. Got to do some dry-firing with the stock striker spring tonight (with the stock recoil spring for now until my 15lb spring arrives) and I think I'm gonna keep it this way. I didn't get to go out and shoot because it was too rainy and cold- maybe tomorrow.
  6. Thanks for the input. I'm gonna try out the stock recoil spring with the Wolff lightened striker spring tomorrow and see what happens. Stay safe out there!
  7. I've been getting light primer strikes lately with lightened striker springs in my newish 34, first a well-used Trapper medium and lately a Wolff, even though the Wolff feels a little heavier than the Trapper. The same setup was 100% in the 17 that I ran prior to getting this 34. When I bought the 34 I just swapped out the springs from the 17 to the 34 (13lb. ISMI recoil spring on the stock guide rod, Wolff heavy trigger return spring, and Trapper medium lightened striker spring). When I had a few light primer strikes I put in the new Wolff striker spring, thinking that it may have just worn out. It didn't help. I had 4 light primer strikes in one stage of an IDPA match I shot this past Tuesday evening. Interestingly, I didn't have a single one in the other stages. After that I decided that the sub-3lb. trigger wasn't worth losing time over, so I installed the stock striker spring, using the rest of the springs listed above. Now, when dry-firing from reset with the trigger held back the slide will move back and forth on its own when shaking the gun. If I continue to hold the trigger back I can pull the slide back and get it to stay about an eighth of an inch from being fully forward. Obviously the recoil spring is worn out (I'm really not sure of the round count, but 5,000 would be a conservative guess, plus hours and hours of dry-fire practice). I have a new 15lb. ISMI recoil spring on order from Lone Wolf...my minor loads WILL cycle the slide on a stock spring, but the brass just sort of "trickles" out. Alright, so here's the question. Could the weakend recoil spring have been a factor in producing the light primer strikes? I'm thinking that it may have been allowing the gun to fire just ever so slightly out of battery. Might I be able to go back to the lighter striker spring when I get my new recoil spring installed? Is this theory sound, or am I way off base?
  8. Unfortunately I didn't get to sight the shotgun in this afternoon...the wife and I decided to check out the new Bass Pro Shops that opened this week near Birmingham. Overpriced, but it was a sight to behold. Anyway...jobob...my Mossberg gets along just fine with my two Remingtons (870 and 50 year old Sportsman 58 16 gauge). They all know their role: the 870 is the bedside gun, the Mossberg is the go-fast gun, and the Sportsman 58 is the "sit in the safe and look pretty" gun.
  9. Well...I finally figured out how to adjust the FRONT sight on my 930 SPX so I think I got my problem with slugs hitting too high solved...I'm gonna try sighting it in again tomorrow afternoon.
  10. what did you end up paying for it? About $550 OTD I think.
  11. I've gotten a 930SPX since I first replied to this topic and I'd like to share my experience. So far it's been great. I've only been able to run a hundred rounds or so of Remington Heavy Dove load through it, but it's functioned flawlessly. I used Winchester slugs to sight in the LPA's, but there's not enough elevation adjustment. With the rear sight all the way down I have to hold the front sight at the very bottom of the ghost ring for the slugs to hit point of aim. At least that's pretty easy to do on the fly. I haven't shot any steel targets with it yet, and I'm worried that the pattern may be to sparse to knock over steel at a distance, so I'm considering having the barrel threaded for chokes. I'm gonna add the Choate +4 magazine extension soon to bump the capacity up to 8+1. Sure it's probably not the perfect gun out of the box for 3gun, but it's not too bad for the price.
  12. I like 147gr. Precision Deltas over 3.2 grains of Titegroup in my Glock 34. I really like the feel of the heavier bullets.
  13. Ours just bloomed day before yesterday...I'll have to snap a photo of it for you guys. This one is a young one; only about a foot tall or so, but the bloom is large.
  14. Even though it's mushier than the stock 5.5, it's less mushy than the Glock 3.5 or the Scherer. I'm unable to explain it any more scientifically than that lol.
  15. Where do you find the right epoxy and "grit". This sounds interesting...I've got a beater Glock that needs something done to it and this may be just the ticket.
  16. I've tried just about all the other 3.5 connectors (Glock, Scherer, LWD) and the Lone Wolf is by far my favorite.
  17. I'm really seriously considering buying the drop in kit for my IDPA Glock 34. It ain't cheap, but the more I read about it the more it sounds like money well spent.
  18. Thanks, freeidaho! Fortunately there's not really an off season for IDPA here in Alabama, but I'll use these for dry fire practice around the house on rainy days.
  19. Well, the scores were emailed out today. According to the Excel spreadsheet I won the match by .09 seconds. The guy that I thought had beaten me called and said "It's on paper now, so it's official." I'm pretty sure the guy that emailed out the scores left out a point down or something when he was putting the scores in the spreadsheet. The two of us added up our scores after the match because we knew it was so close, so I'm pretty sure there was an input error. Oh well...guess I won. Hopefully it won't be as close next month, one way or the other.
  20. Shot my local club match this afternoon and I came in second place by 41 hundredths of a second behind an Expert classified shooter (I'm just a lowly SS). That's the closest I've gotten to winning and it's great to know my time spent practicing hasn't been in vain. I'm motivated to practice even harder, now!
  21. That's the load I run in my Glock 34 and it's the bee's knees.
  22. I'll second (or third, or fifteenth...) the reloader. My Dillon 550 was the best gun-related investment I've ever made.
  23. What is the capacity with the +4? Also, how much does it protrude past the end of the barrel?
  24. I'm probably going to order a 930 SPX tomorrow. I originally intended to buy a 930 24" Turkey and add a mag extension, but then I learned that the ported barrel was a no-go for limited and tactical. Bummer. I'll end up putting a Choate extension on the SPX eventually (even though it'll stick out past the muzzle a couple inches) to bump the capacity up to 8+1.
