  1. Thanks for the correction, sorry for the mistake.
  2. I think I have a team together, app should be in the mail tomorrow. What's the approximate max range we'll be shooting rifles at Peacemaker? IIRC Topton only goes to 200y max, but Peacemaker has 600+. Just want to know how far we'll need to test ammo/zeros for.
  3. People use them with flat basepads on IDPA guns too, since they have to fit the box.
  4. I shoot Production for a number of reasons, in no particular order: 1. I also shoot IDPA, so I can use the same setup in either Production or SS. 2. I live in a 10 round state, which pushes me to Prod,SS,L10, or Revo. 3. I like shooting my M&P the most of the guns I own. 4. Production is one of the deepest divisions around here competition wise (limited and open being the others) 5. I have gear queer tendencies, so production keeps that in check. 6. 9mm is cheap and easy to reload. 7. My carry gun is also an M&P, so more of the gun-handling skill transfers.
  5. I'd try before you buy if you can. I bought one for M&P mags for production and sent it back for 4 singles. I couldn't consistently grab the 3rd mag without knocking out the 4th one. It may be different with single stack mags or for you, but I'd try if you can. At least Comp-Tac has a good return policy.
  6. I don't have anything on my calendar for the 14th/15th. Outdoor IDPA on the 21st and indoor USPSA on the 22nd if you're still here.
  7. A roomba like robot that will scour ranges for brass. Obviously beyond the ability of one guy for a contest, but I'd love if somebody did it. iRobot does have a military side, so maybe someday.
  8. Yup, took 3.7 of lot 1920 to get around 900-920 fps with a precision 147gr moly.
  9. I remember reading something somewhere about how you're the average of the five people with whom you spend the most time.
  10. Have you tried the Apex RAM? Regardless of the pull weight it gives you a VERY nice positive reset. Yes, I have the RAM in the gun. It's not the reset itself; the RAM does give a solid satisfying click. It's that the trigger doesn't push forward hard enough. When I reset the trigger, I feel like I'm waiting on it to go forward.
  11. Great advice. There's some more good advice about this in a thread Lugnut started before shooting with JJ at Area 7, but I can't find it at the moment.
  12. Good point, but my original point was primarily that there are ways to deal with the issue without any additional rules. As and when visible is the ideal, box to box is OK in level 1, 'don't shoot the side walls' in an otherwise valid target engagement isn't. Agree 100% on not taking the sidewall shot even when legal though. If I see one, I'm pointing it out to the match staff, especially if I catch it before the first shot is fired when it's easy to fix.
  13. What you want to do with the dies and toolhead is fine, but there are other parts involved in converting a 1050. Off the top of my head, a shellholder, locator buttons, and the casefeed plunger. There's a section in the manual where you can figure which of these are common between calibers. The easiest thing to do is probably to ask Brian when you order it.
  14. Clubs have quite a bit of course design flexibility under USPSA rules. The double tapping steel issue can by solved by not using rearward forward falling poppers. Clubs can use forward falling poppers and/or plates, or not use steel in their stages. The side berm issue is covered under 2.1.4: "Target Locations – When a course is constructed to include target locations other than immediately downrange, organizers and officials must protect or restrict surrounding areas to which competitors, officials or spectators have access. Each competitor must be allowed to solve the competitive problem in his own way and must not be hindered by being forced to act in any manner which might cause unsafe action. Targets must be arranged so that shooting at them on an “as and when visible” basis will not cause competitors to breach safe angles of fire." I regularly shoot matches at an indoor club that only has a bullet trap on the back wall. I've never heard anyone say anything about shooting the side walls. The stages are designed such that it never comes up.
  15. What of the USPSA members who drive even farther to come to the match and then get DQ'd due to a non-USPSA rule? What other rules should we let a club change? At some point you have to draw a line in the sand beyond which it's a non-USPSA match. If USPSA affiliation brings so little benefit, what's wrong with the club dropping their affiliation? I attended a match once in another shooting sport at a relatively isolated club. That club had some strange ideas about the rules. Due to this, I, and many other shooters, didn't go back to that match, and it's no longer sanctioned by the national org.
  16. Thinking through it from the scrap yard's perspective, I understand why the law is that way, but it still sucks for the theft victim. I wouldn't have minded paying them back the scrap value *too* much if they weren't dicks about it, but the way it went down for you, I'd be pissed. In a perfect world, I'd have the law require a good faith effort on the part of the scrap yard to avoid purchasing stolen property, but it's hard to define exactly what that would be in a fair and consistent way. It's probably never been an issue before to the degree it is now due to high commodity prices combined with a bad economy. If I were trying to get the law fixed, I'd look toward how pawn shops are regulated.
  17. The competition spring kit will turn a DCAEK in to a CompAEK. You can also put the stock trigger return spring in to lighten it to between comp and DC. The trigger return springs from lightest to heaviest are Apex Comp -> stock -> Apek Duty. I have my M&P set up with CompAEK except using the stock trigger return spring. This yields a pull weight around 4 lbs. I think the 2.5lb pull with the comp trigger return spring gives up too much in reset feel to be worth the lighter weight.
  18. What about those with single stacks that aren't 1911s?
  19. Still only 140mm mags for Limited Division. So, you would not get any kind of capacity advantage there. I'm sure we will still see someone come up with a quad stack 40/38 super mag that expands out below the grip one of these days. It just takes someone with the creativity to figure out the problem and solve it. Chris That was a brain fart, I meant 140mm. The only mags I could find for the more typical 9mm AR conversions were either 10 rounders or big 30ish round stick mags that appear to be bigger than 170, let alone 140. The Glock magwell lets you use all the stuff already out there for limited and open glock mags.
  20. I'm not sure what enforcement would be possible or desirable. IMO, USPSA should zealously protect their trademark / brand by making sure only actual USPSA matches are advertised as such, but otherwise let things go. I don't see any downside to let any match use our well proven rules. Using USPSA classifications will result in more shooters shooting USPSA matches (including paying mission count fees to USPSA).
  21. Once you have a few club matches under your belt, I highly recommend trying a big match if it's close enough to drive to on match day. If you have to pay for a flight and/or hotel room, I might wait a little longer, depending on your free time and budget.
  22. That would make the 3lb production limit shitstorm look like a Quaker bible study group.
  23. Will you guys be offering fitting services? If so, do you just need the slide, or the whole gun? (Asking due to shipping cost)
  24. I would've called the police myself. I'm pretty sure knowingly receiving stolen property is a crime. It probably wasn't provable, but the investigation might make them think twice next time.
