  1. Just to refine the zip tie a bit further. I used a large size zip tie (black of course, but designer colors are available) with about 1/4" of tail past the zip tie lock knub. To ensure an esspert, non-slip, professional style installation I cut a 1/4" piece of bicycle inner tube and stretched it over the adjustment ring and then tightened the zip tie over it. Two years later and still going strong. And I always have an extra zip tie in my kit, just in case somebody needs one.
  2. Cobra, could you expand a little bit on that. I would also like to start by giving it a try with a gas gun, .308 or .223, not sure which yet. I don't expect to run with the big boys but don't want to really suck just because of equipment.
  3. Hernando Sportsmans Club is straight north about 50 miles up Route 19 from Clearwater. 8 miles past Weeki-Watchi where you could drop off family members if needed and pick them up on the way back. 3-gun, Action rifle, USPSA, IDPA. Even Cowboy.
  4. Thanks to the Jeremy's, stats and especially the hardest working folks in 3-gun, the RO's. Match went smoothly, lunch was provided and catered out to the stages so there was no real "down time", stages were a good mix of all 3 guns. I really enjoyed the precision rifle mix into the stages. Don't get to shoot that bad boy very much. Some of the shooters that didn't have precision rifles just used their carbine for those portions of the stage and did just fine. Thanks again and I'll be there for the next one.
  5. The weather.com shows Marble Falls, TX: 34-53 - The low will be around 4am, the high around 4pm. Mostly cloudy with some sun - Not too bad. 10% rain - Not too bad. 4mph wind - Not too bad. Based on the above I think it looks like a not too bad of a day to do some precision 3 gunnin. However, I'll still be bringing some long johns and hand warmers.
  6. Excellent match last year. Looking forward to this one. What time on Sunday, the 8th, should we be there for the shooters meeting?
  7. Why not just post the distances for the precision rifle right there at the stage, along with the stage description. But then what would those of us who have those really cool range finders do with them. I know, get to the stage, range the targets, and post them next to the stage description.
  8. For those that can't make it friday, will there be registration saturday morning at the range?
  9. Not the same situation as you but perhaps what I found will be helpful. First off and what turned out to be very important when developing a load that would match the chevrons, is to understand that the reticle is for the m855 in meters, not yards. No big deal inside 200 but get out around 400 plus, it can be significant. I worked up a load in 308, with a MV of 2750 fps which matches the chevrons perfectly so you might want to try something similar. Center of dot dead on at 100 yards, bottom of dot at 200, 1st chev at 300, 2nd chev at 400 and 3rd chev at 510. Impact is within a couple inches of point of aim at these ranges. Depending on the barrel length of your rifle, if your MV is about 2750, you'll be good to go with the above info.
  10. Only walked out on one movie in my entire life. Sargent Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band. And I like the Beatles, too bad they weren't in it. I gave it my best shot and said to myself, OK, if somebody starts singing another sappy song I'm outta here. Sure enough, some chick in a close up shot of her face starts whining to music. I grab my pop corn and head for the door. Almost got trampled by 3 other guys running out.
  11. Welcome to CenTex. Lot's of shooting and some darn good ranges in this area.
  12. In about a month I'll be heading from the Rocky Mountain 3-gun to northern Michigan for a family re-union with all my 3-gun gear in the truck. Sometimes a carry permit can be helpful in case of a traffic stop and explaining why all the equipment. Am I wrong but it seems Illinois is a bit paranoid when it comes to private ownership of firearms. As I see it my options are: 1) Drive around Illinois. (Not likely) 2) Just get through and don't make any stops. (Most Likely) Any other helpful hints, tips and suggestions or should I just not worry about it?
  13. Just reading over some rules and have a question about no-shoots. The rule says: "Shots that penetrate "Shoot Targets" and hit No Shoot targets count as a hit on No Shoots. *No more than 50% of the 0-‐second penalty area can be covered by a target required to be engaged, on any course of fire. The 0 Second penalty zones of a No Shoot must never be obstructed by more than 50% by a Shoot Target. Maybe I'm not reading this properly but does this mean that if 50% of a no-shoot target is stapled behind a shoot target and I put 2 shots into the 1 second zone on the 50% side that is covering the no-shoot, I will incur 2 no shoot hit penalties?
  14. Well Stealthy, in short and the way I see it, and please correct me if I am wrong, if 3G Nation would embrace He-man it would be a different story. Quite a few shooters who would shoot HM regularly don't, because they want to participate in the 3GN series. And you can't blame them. That's where the fun is, and the potential rewards. Most of us load our rifle ammo so the cost difference between loading a 5.56 round and a 7.62 round isn't all that much. Primers about the same, powder twice as much, bullets 50% more. Put in perspective with all the other expenses we have to incur, it's not that bad. Ever hear the song that goes "video killed the radio star"? Did 3G Nation TV kill the He-Man Division? I wonder. Just another .02 cent opinion.
  15. Here's a very well kept secret. Bastrop County, especially around Bastrop/Smithville/Rosanky. Lots of country ranches from 10 to 60 acres. Only 35 minutes from Austin airport, 45 minutes from "keep Austin weird" downtown, The live music capitol of the world. Give it a look see.
  16. Holy Moly, that was stressful. Finally... got in. Heavy Metal baby.
  17. T Bacus, this looks very good. I did mine a while back but I can see by your pic I need to get more aggressive and take more material off. Did you do this with hand tools or use a milling machine?
  18. So Kurt, ole pal, ole buddy. I, as a proud supporter our your kingship of the porn kingdom of OKC, want to ask... How much you want for that barrel?
  19. Good question bmiller. When I ordered my Priz with the circle plex I did not know the dot was 6.3moa, I thought it was 3moa. But being a "glass is half full" kind of guy I decided to figure out a way to make this reticle work for 3-gun. I used it at BRM3G last year in the He-man Irons division and it worked well. Zero the bottom of the dot at 250. That gives you a center of dot at 100 which is perfect for hoser and stages that don't go out past 300. With a BOD zero at 250, at 300 just hold 12 oclock on an 8" plate for a center impact. At 350 just hold a little higher. The point being that with a 250 BOD zero you'll usually see some part of the target. Here's what's useful for those long range shots. The top of the post which is 3moa wide acts as a wonderful post front sight and will give dead on at 390 with a BOD 250 zero. You can use the thin post for hold unders inside 390 and hold overs past that. It can be pretty effective, just like iron sights. As it turns out, I'm glad I got the Priz with the circle plex. The above holds are for a 308 at 2550 fps. In a .223 at 3000 fps the points of impact would be slightly different. So that's the strategy. Hope this answers your question.
  20. I went through much of the above to fix the failures to eject/lock back with no luck. Before going to the last resort of drilling out the gas hole until it would work I tried one more thing. Took a cleaning mop soaked with rouge/polishing compound, stuck it in a drill and polished the chamber thoroughly. Problem solved. What was happening was as the gas got to the carrier, the fired case was still under the effect of chamber pressure against the rough chamber just enough to use up the gas energy needed to function the rifle properly. It takes 20 minutes and costs almost nothing.
  21. Before anybody was making a fancy aluminum clamp on throw lever for my scope I made one. 1/4" wide strip of bicycle inner tube around the ring. 1/4" zip tie around the inner tube and clip off most of the excess. (personal taste). Never worked loose, never came off, never slipped, always worked as advertised. Black zip tie works the best but other colors are available.
  22. Got me a 9mm pistol, a .223 carbine and a .308 bolt gun. Got me a 100 yard zero and a long chart of where my bullets are gonna hit. That should about do it?
  23. Thank you to all. Organizers, staff, sponsors and shooters. The opening ceremony was over the top. It was a great mix of shooting the 3 guns. Some times it was easy, some times it was doable and sometimes it was hard. Speaking of sponsors, Barnes Precision Machine saved my butt. On stage 8 the extractor tip of my rifle broke clean off with 14 targets to go. Broken .308. We were the last squad and it was late in the day, but I packed up and humped it off the plateau down to the valley hoping to find a gunsmith or a vendor or anybody with some 308 parts. Most everybody was closed up and gone! Except 3 guys in their truck getting ready to pull out. I started yelling and waving to get their attention. "Are you guys with that trailer over there? I need help." "Yep, we are." was the answer. To make a long story short, Andy and company took an extractor out of their display .308 and installed it into mine to get me running for the next days shooting. I offered to pay and they refused. That is a class act. 3-gun sponsors are the best. Next time you go shopping remember your sponsors of 3-gun, and I especially will remember Barnes Precision Machine. Looking forward to next year.
  24. I would. However, the way this is playing out at this point in time I think it will be prudent to dust off the old STI .40 and M1 Benelli. 1/3rd He-Man (Heavy Man Optic or Tac Heavy Optic or Heavy Optic or Heavy Metal Optic or whatever) is better than none at all. Fullauto, be sure we get together so I can peruse your new .308 rifle.
  25. JJ is 100% correct on this. For me, 2012 was going to be the year of the He-man, .45/pump 12/.308. I shot He-man optic at the He-man 3-gun in Raton and had a great time. I shot He-man optic at the RM3G and had a great time. Signed up and was planning on shooting He-man optic at this one. Found out there was no He-man optic division so went and ordered a Prismatic for He-man irons. Now I find out there are only 3, maybe less, in that division, so there won't be a He-man irons division either. What the heck is going on?
