  1. i've shot both cmc and wilson's with no complaints from either. both are very, very reliable. i've until just recently tried a ed brown mag that had a extended over stuff foot that went down to the metal floor plate/base pad. in my shooting circle they were thought to be the toughest, but they have been broken off by shooters, just like the wilson's by some over zealous shooters in the past. yet others have had reliability problems with the cmc's. personally i never had any problems with all three. i guess i live a charmed life.
  2. as for my transition times, they've gotten better. my previous times were based when i was transitioning from limited to open (red dot scope woes ). they're about 0.20-0.32 on a el presidente type stage.
  3. i seem to remember in a "science show" that the human eye sees the color green better than any other hue. i use green because of a better contrast with the reddish color dirt that makes up my range. red might work better in greener environments/ranges, but who knows? try'em both and use the one you like.
  4. i've used and settled on 4.3 gr of tite group through my springfield 5." they got me 176-180 pf with meister plated 230 gr heads. sorry no data with other bullet wieghts than 230 gr.
  5. considering the present political climate and the media demonizing guns and their owners/users our whole sport and others like it is "politically incorrect." so the heck with them, our sport calls for the organized firing of firearms in competition, not petting puppies . we are safely shooting (or try to shoot) cardboard and steel targets in ranges, not burning crosses in peoples back yards. forget about the ignorant masses, if it's fun and the other shooters don't mind, then i say go for it!
  6. i chrono'ed 'em with my 17c (factory comped) and it made ave pf 127
  7. i also have not had any problems with my 140mm's. the dawson tuned tubes, sti followers and springs and dawson +3 base pads have yet to disappoint.
  8. 20-25 minute drives on sunday mornings along the west coast of maui, slower if its whale watching season (nov-march)!
  9. make sure that they're loaded with the right ammo too! i was shooting 2 guns at a match (lim-10 in 40 s&w and open with 38 supercomp). between directing the match , taping, and etc, i got some what distracted . i forgot to top off a mag in one stage and ran dry which threw me, and in another stage a 38sc round found its way into my 40 mag ! my carelessness cost me a second place finish rather than first, but could've turn out way worse !
  10. thanks for the encouragement guys ! i'm already working on another set of stages ! rifle and handgun this time!
  11. i don't have any receipes with 135 or 150 heads but this the steel challenge loads i use in my 6 " STI 40- 180 gr. rem heads, 4.2 gr. titegroup, federal 205 small rifle primers, winchester brass, oal 1.200=134-137 pf and oh so soft! i'm talking open gun soft! pretty accurate too.
  12. i used to pratice hand grips with a generic hand grip exerciser (a spring with the two ends at a 30 degree angle with handles at both sides). i'd squeeze the sides and try to hold a quarter between the handles as long as i could while watching tv or doing something mundane not requiring my hand/s. later, i got a more ergonomic grip exerciser from a acquaintance who was an occupational therapist. it was a rehabilitation tool that had handle with an interal grip for the fingers that slid back a forth. you could put colored ruberbands with different poundage of resistance as you strength increased. this was a practice i did years ago when i first got shooting pistol and my hands were smaller and i tended to relax my grip on my glock 20 and get the empties eject over or hit me in the head . has any one tried any grip exercises? or still practice anything similar to what i described?
  13. i designed and directed my first club match today. 4 stages, > 100 rounds, and 11 shooters. pre-match: i gave my stage designs plenty of thought and believed they were pretty good, but till the cardboard is up you can never tell. I got reaquainted my self with an old friend the copy machine. day of the match: besides the occasional rib of being on drugs when i designed the courses of fire , and the intermittent "sick" and "sadist" comments when i gave the walk thoughs , no one got hurt and i think everyone had a good time. our club's director was even so kind to offer anonther opportunity to exercise my wicked imagination. post match: personally i learned a lot; directing is more work than i thought , that even though you designed the stages you can still mess up, (a fact my brother was kind enough to remind me of, too often i might add ), my math is very rusty , and the unfortunate limitations of our stat computer. that being said, i can't wait for another opportunity to direct another one!
  14. yep! the older model doesn't have the ability to cant the gun in and out (point the muzzle toward or away from your hip/leg) , where the new one has that option.
  15. pretty close tough call, given the cirumstances i can't fault the RO. a better approach probably would have been to back up while moving toward that array where the proximetry to the targets would have make the "breaking of the 180 plane" more, or in your defence less evident. as for video taping, i love tecnology! but if it were to be above reproach an over head shot would have been the best angle in any instant replay type situation concerning the 180.
  16. i have the new Limcat and your second picture is the NEW Limcat . i could not access the other picture, but i just assume they haven't updated their photo . if want to be sure you have the new version may i suggest searching Shooters Connection they have the new one's @ $179. good luck with your shooting and hope you love your limcat as much as i love mine.
  17. welcome to the darkside!
  18. good luck finding mags , used is usually the only way to go to get "legal" hi-caps. my advise is to check the clasifieds at the uspsa site. as for brass, supercomp is what i use , although any rimless case is best imho for trouble free feeds from any mag. bullets are really up to your taste and what your blaster likes to digest, my ipsc mentor told me "get the cheapest stuff that shoots a tight group." but if you got cash to burn than take a look at what the pro's use or ask the better shooters at your local club what they like. considering you live in the continental us, i would check the forums with a search for reloading components and suppliers, or talk to your fellow shooters at your local range to see who has the best deals in your neck of the woods. see you on the firing line and good luck shooting.
  19. i ran plated in my 45 without a problem. others in my club cautioned me to avoid running any through my open blaster, due to inaccuracy issues and the plating spliting/coming off the lead bullet , and leaving the evidence on the ipsc targets.
  20. why not try talking to it? they say it works with plants that fail to thrive...
  21. hey flex, i haven't had the opportunity or the courage to enter a lot of big matches or the foresight to log my results during my clubs matches just yet, (yep just call me an enthusiastic FNG) . the only big match (HI state championship 2003) that i shot and was able to get numbers for are such: points shot divided by points total per stage #1-97.2, #2-95.7, #3-97.9, #4-99.4, #5-98.2, #6-89.4, #7-92.7, and #8-92.3. for a match points average (1301/1365)=95.325% i was pleasantly surprised with my performance for my first time.
  22. also for further practice on the firing line you can print a target from sportshooter.com where they have a target pulled from the us army marksmanship unit training guide. basically it looks like a pie chart with a bullseye in the middle. if you shoot anything other that a bulls eye and keep realitively good shot groups off hand, it can give you a quicky diagnosis of your shotting technique woes, and perhaps lead to your improvement. anyway, good luck and good shooting.!
  23. i think most everyone does or has done what you've mentioned. i apply it on the mag tube, in the mag tube, on the follower, on the spring, in the magwell of the gun, on the trigger guard, on the insiide of my holster, in my mag pouches....etc. this of course is done after cleaning and applied with a similarly treated cloth that is kept in a ziplock bag of some sort. the stuff works great with my blasters, my mags, and race rig! i heard that one of the shooters in my club also treats his ammo with the stuff too!
  24. how can you tell if your really old? if the model firearm you use and you share the same birthdate (1911). and i prefer the term "well seasoned shooter" or "experienced competitor."
  25. athena lee gets my pick for the GM beauty centerfold in the next issue of front site.
