  1. Mr Bane, I taped the show last night (1 a.m. is past my bedtime). I watched it this a.m. Good job. You've gotta love Walt. He's an original. Mark
  2. My bad. I should have been more clear. .45 ACP MG 200gr JFP
  3. Four gun master Mike Benedict has one of the original 1050's. He said he has loaded about 1M rounds. I think they rolled that press out in '88 or '89.
  4. I'm in the music business. Raw manufacturing cost of DVD's and CD's amounts to about $.65. A typical CD the artist's royalties are about $3. Major Label artists are advanced huge sums on records. The label fronts all the cost of recording, promotion, video etc... In the end the Lable OWNS the recording. Quality artists own their own songs (publishing). It costs 5 times more to promote a successful disc than it costs to create. Nothing comes free. There are cost all along the way before it ever makes it to the store. $12 too much for a CD that lasts forever? Even if you don't like it you trade it in at a used record store for at least $5. Not a bad deal. The artist gets paid, distribution gets paid, retailer gets paid and the label gets paid. Using Kaaza etc... to DL songs is stealing plain and simple. The bottom line is it's a moral issue. As bootlegging and illegal DL'ing and burning grows there is cause and effect. People in our industry lose jobs, the price of concert tickets and movies rise disproportionately. Someone pays the price. Everyone who steals has a way of justifying their deed. "CD's cost too much", "there's only one good song", "Dave Mathews is rich, it doesn't affect him" blah blah blah. Just excuses for stealing.
  5. Hey guys! I just picked up a case of MG 200gr JFP. I'm looking for some load data to make 170 pf. OAL? I've seen people post 1.200 to 1.245. Seems like a wide variance. If you have data for U.Clays that info would be cool too. Thanks! Moderator Edit: .45 ACP
  6. In a club match I don't see a problem. You'd have to ask HQ about shooting that in a sanctioned match. I've had GA State Patrol SWAT teams come to my matches in full duty gear. Nobody complained. Even the lowlight stuff they had an advantage but again nobody complained. We're happy to have you guys attend. I have a friend who's duty gun is the FN Five Seven. I run him in ESP. The biggest issue is seeing the hits.
  7. Ken is ex-military as well. Ken is very well connected with the elite teams and highly respected among them. A certain military element decided to see what TR was all about and left after a couple of days. Meaning there was nothing they could gain from being remaining there. Hack is a great instructor. His classes aren't for newbie or below average shooters. If you want to shoot a lot and come home and brag about your certificates go to TR. Hack doesn't teach fantasy camps.
  8. I cancelled my subscription to American Handjob after Huntington and Smith launched personal attacks on Hack an Stanford. Very unprofessional IMO. People making judgements about things they have no first hand knowledge of. I'll leave it at that. Regarding the "real" El Prez. Go look it up. The IPSC and IDPA versions are not the real deal. They are both cut down versions. There's nothing wrong with either but they are not what Cooper originally designed. The top guns shoot the real El Prez in around 8 sec clean. I don't take it as an IDPA vs IPSC thing. Hack sure liked to run it at the nats. It's humbling.
  9. For my URL challenged friend. www.snipercountry.com
  10. Not the greatest or most intuitive software around but it sure beats using excel for me. Then again I don't get into creating macros so it's probably me. I like the ability to export in several ways. It would be nice if you could incorporate an email function to shoot results out only to the shooters that were in the match. I went ahead and created a website and posted scores there. Life was much easier after that.
  11. Definitely not good. A safety must be on or the hammer must be decocked. That's an ND waiting to happen.
  12. Don't assume factory ball will make PF. Two years ago when we were chronoing ammo prior to the IDPA Nationals the S&B 9mm ammo one shooter had on hand failed to make the 125pf. That was out of a G17, G19 and a Springfield 5" 1911 in 9mm. If they change PF it won't bother me any. I shoot 185pf in 1911 using 230gr Rainiers.
  13. My best clean time is 2.55 with my 1911. I shoot 185pf ammo and use a Alessie DOJ leather holster. I'm happy with that time. Last weekend with a stock G17 I shot a 2.05 down 1 out of a Safariland 560. Getting a fast first shot clean is the trick for me especially with the 1911. Mark
  14. Bill, Very helpful info. Thanks! Mark
  15. I passed this year. A bunch of us decided we didn't want to drive the 10+ hours to Arkansas. Apparently we weren't the only ones. As the date approaches I'm kinda wishing I was though. Some friends are headed out there so the Georgia Death Squad will be represented. Mark
  16. Guys! Thanks for the input and the support. I definitely want to expand my class and establish some basic requirements. I'm glad the first class was for the most part filled with people with a good amount of experience. One shooter however didn't make the grade IMO and understood that he needed more experience before I felt comfortable confirming him as certified. Ted, great post as usual. Any intel you're willing to pass on would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mark
  17. I ran my first SO Certification class last month. It ran about 2 hours. I modeled my class based on the "unofficial" syllabus that is posted on the idpa website. I would like there to be, as promised an official guideline created something along the line of what the NRA or even USPSA appears to do for their classes. From reading the BOD thread here and other threads I am curious about what you you guys expect from an SO cert. Class. IMO, SO certification isn't about teaching SO's to be Match Directors. I don't plan to teach SO's how to design COF's or run a match. That's not the task. I would also like HQ to set some minimum requirements to be met by prospective SO's. like 1) must be at least classified 2) maybe having shot in a minimum number of sanctioned matches 3) Having SO'd a minimum number of stages/matches etc... To me, it mostly comes down to match experience and the people that who have helped you gain that experience more so than having sat through a class. You can still be an SO w/out certification. Get behind the timer. Since my name is going on the card I feel responsible sending these guys off as "certified". If HQ doesnt' give us more guidance should I set my own guidelines?
  18. Almost all of my stages are "solve the problem" stages. I get a lot of new shooters and put them at the bottom of the shooting order. They usually have a clue by the time their turn arrives. Plus we tend to cut them some slack since you can't force feed them the rules on day one. My opinion is that MD's that dictated every minutia of each COF don't design them very well or are intentionally setting traps for the shooters.. Good stage design takes time and experience. If they are done right there is only one way to shoot the stage fast without getting gigged. I hate to use the term "gamer proof" but you know what I mean. Mark
  19. I bought the 2/3 IPSC steel target with stand. $102 shipped. I love it. fits in the trunk and the back of the explorer with no problem. MetalTargets.com Pretty hard to beat his deals.
  20. Flexmoney is right. Your local IDPA MD will probably let you shoot. You just won't be able to use it in a sanctioned major match. Mark
  21. 1) The SO's aren't involved in the rule book revision. The AC's are. There is a new, revised book coming. I would not expect any major sweeping changes however. 2) I have never seen a stage with downloaded magazines except for a Vickers Count stage at a sanctioned match. A "standards" or Limited Vickers stage, yes. I don't think you could get a COF like you described approved for a sanctioned match.
  22. I bought the KWC G19 with the metal slide. I didn't like the Caspian as the trigger doesn't reset like the glock does. The Kwc also allows you to adjust the spin on the bb (they call it Hop Up), which makes it pretty darn accurate. Good for FOF training and fun. Decent "dry fire" tool as well. The G19 has no problem cutting through two layers of cardboard. I use a piece of old carpet in a box to catch the bb's for reuse.
  23. This is a perfect example why it is important for the MD and the SO's to walk through each stage prior to the start of the match. It gives the SO's a chance to see what potential problems are and either make changes and or head off potential interpretation problems. Doing so helps to ensure a consistant match. That way you don't have huge time differences between shooters and squads based on inconsistant running of the stage.
