Looks for Match

Looks for Match (2/11)

  1. Wow Bubber, very impressive! Congrats! Margaret and I are doing fine. We got waylaid for a year and a half by a major home improvement project that has finally got out of "urgency" mode. But I'm telling ya, it's hard to get back into the swing of things. Once I got out of the habit of practicing it's been difficult to get back on a schedule of regular practice. Still, we hope to see you and everyone at the IRC next year! Paul and Margaret
  2. Sorry for this thread drift but I just have to ask A while ago Bubber wrote "I have been shooting predominatly a eight shot revolver in A Open class in IPSC. " Bubber, did you earn your A Open classification with your revolver? If so, congratulations superman! Paul
  3. Hilarious. You really had me going!!! Paul
  4. Rudy's going to be there? Rudy as in Rudi Waldinger? If that's correct please tell him Paul Hara said "Hi". He used to shoot with us in Richmond, CA. Great Guy and a great shooter! Thanks, Paul
  5. Thanks! My wife wasn't too happy about me breaking off the rear sight of her Kimber in class!
  6. Just took Matt's two day advanced practical shooting class. Great class! It was a wonderful blend of shooting, verbal instruction, theory and humor. We covered a lot in two days: We started with the basics including among other things, stance, grip, draw and reload. Matt critiqued us all, and everyone, no matter what level, improved by the end of this portion of the training. Then we spent a lot of time on movement. We went over moving while shooting as well as moving to get to your next shooting position. He had the whole class duck walking while holding a bottle of water. It was fun to watch and instructional at the same time. We did a lot of barricade training. It's amazing how much time we shaved off learning how to shoot barricades correctly. He also spent time discussing gamesmanship and mental preparation for matches. We finished off by shooting some stages so we could apply what we learned under match-like conditions. We were also lucky to have Matt Outman, master IDPA shooter as Matt Burkett's assistant. So were had the input of two great shooters. Highly recommended - but be prepared to learn, cause Matt won't let you waste your money. He told us our job is to "get the bullets on the target" in the most efficient way possible. And if you forget your "job" he'll let you know in no uncertain terms!
  7. Catfish, Take a look at page two of the thread on Matt's Dryfire drills. I posted a formula for calculating target size vs simulated distances. Paul
  8. jarcher, measure the height of the target on your monitor in inches or centimeters and divide that by the height of an actual target. Take this number and multiply it times the number of yards you would like to simulate. For example: Let's say you wanted to duplicate 25 yards. First you set a target size on the monitor by using the target sizing slider. Then measure the heigth of the target on the screen. Divide the size of the target on the monitor by the size of an actual target. Let's say by doing this you get a value of .25. Multiply 25 yards by .25 and you get 6.25 yards. This is the distance you should be from the monitor to approximate the target at 25 yards. Paul
  9. Dalmas, I just saw your dryfire video. That is way cool. Every room is an array! Paul
  10. Happened twice to me but broke in non-reparable places. Went back to the trusty old tube types. They have an aluminum one now, I might give that a try someday.
  11. Yeah, this is serious. Margaret and I haven't gone one week without shooting in the last 5 years, let alone 1 month. But we made the huge mistake of tearing off our tar and gravel, cutting the eaves off the house and ordering new trusses BEFORE we got the permits in hand. Now we have one eye on the sky all the time, we have trusses being delivered next week, the plywood is already paid for, the engineer we hired seems to be dragging his feet and asking for more money, and the city could care less. There is a distinct possibility that we may have to put the tar and gravel back up and put up some makeshift eaves to get us through the winter until the spring when we may end up starting the process over again. Thanks everyone, misery really does love company! But there is hope. I did put the cmore back on the gun last night! Paul
  12. My first time going through this process has been a horrible experience. Experienced contractors say even they have horrible experiences. Everytime I go down to city hall with my plans in hand they want me to do something else. They seem to enjoy making me jump through hoops. I've been told if you get mad at them your project goes to the bottom of the list! I guess that's just they way it is.
  13. Way to go Spook!!! I knew those sub 2 second reloads of yours were a sign of greatness! Paul
  14. I've been working on this for a while now and I finally made B Open solely by shooting my open revolver. Man, it's been tough, you Open semi-auto guys and gals shoot and reload like lightning!!! Paul
  15. Kevin, Do you wear this combination of lenses every day or just for matches? I wear the same type of combination only reversed, so my dominant eyes sees distance and my non-dominant eye sees close up. I wear these all the time. I've been thinking of reversing this for limited shooting but I would hate to have to do this just for match days. Thanks, Paul
