  1. So, virtually all kydex holsters are now outlawed by IDPA? I can hardly wait to find out what else has been banned. How do you figure? None of the kydex I've owned have enough space between the belt and the holster that you could see through. Though I've seen many that were "stacked out" away from the body. In fact if you read my post there was a vendor at the nationals who's line would not make the grade after the change becomes official. BW mentioned him in the conversation and the vendor spoke with BW directly about the issue. 30 days later I saw the same vendor at another sanctioned state match and he had already made the appropriate changes to his holsters that would comply with the new holster requirements. It's not like I was privy to any inside info. I know BW had this conversation with numerous people.
  2. I swapped out some Heinie Straight 8's for my Mepros and have had issues with the rear moving around. I removed it to find that the previous owner and installer had stoned the bottom of the dovetail to instal. Bad move. I've used loctite and even peened the bottom of the dovetail to creat high spots in hopes it would hold tight. To no avail. I finally broke down and bought a plain Heinie rear and installed it using the Glock sight tool. It was no easy task. Zeroed the sight making a minor adjustment. I don't think it's going anywhere. It was that tight. Maybe a change since you last installed one Joe. Heinie says to make sure you install it right to left only.
  3. FWIW I asked BW himself at the nationals about the new book. He only discussed the holster issue. No more approved holster list. It will be criteria based. 1) If the holster cant can be adjusted while wearing the holster it won't be legal. Good news for Safariland 560/1 owners. 2) If the holster is canted muzzle forward, it won't be legal. (SO call I suppose) 3) If you can see daylight between the belt and the body of the holster, it won't be legal. 4) If you can see daylight between the belt and the body of the shooter, it won't be legal. 5) If the shooter stuffs a filler in the gaps of an offset, it won't be legal. I specifically asked about women's offset holsters like those made by some currently approved makers. BW said they haven't finalized the women's offset issue yet. Probably because we know there will be guys that would try to use them. One maker who was there selling his holsters has already made changes to his line to conform to the above criteria.
  4. Don't like IDPA? Well, there's also The Polite Society. One of the great things about America is the freedom to make choices.
  5. So you maintain that being creative and intelligent in the application of one's skills is cheating? -ld How do you draw that conclusion? You must shoot with JoeD.
  6. Sorry, didn't mean to offend any "roofers" who might be reading.
  7. Leave the FTDR. I've never seen one given that wasn't earned. I haven't seen many in 5+ years. What does a 5 sec procedural do for multiple cheating violations that the FTDR doesn't do except reduce the "cost" of cheating or unsportsmanlike conduct. I like the 10 second procedural for HTN's. Either that or leave it at 5 and penalize multiple HTN's. Another option might be 10 sec for 5 point "kill" zone hits and 5 seconds for 4 and 3 point zone HTN's. I'll stop there.
  8. Joe, it's like that because they know you gamers are too cheap to buy more powder.
  9. Why don't you guys just rename it USPSA Jr. ? Kneepads - Sorry, I don't like the idea of being at a match with people that look like a bunch of roofers. Choreography - I agree to some extent. It's all about COF design. You get what the MD wants/likes to do 90% of the time. I like to see people sort it out and shoot it different ways. Sometimes I like to force them to perform a reload to break up the rhythm and make them think. It's all good IMO. Forced kneeling at low cover is a stability rule and should stay IMO. Same reason why kneeling should be at the end of a COF so you don't put the slower moving folks at a greater disadvantage. Same reason there's a 10yd movement limit. Speed reloads. Another dead horse topic. How much ammo do you carry? How much are you willing to leave behind? blah blah blah. Or take it away and bump the min round count and see how precious each bullet becomes. If you have a sport that requires use of cover there's always going to be tough calls to make. Deal with it. Move 10mm back to CDP for the sole reason that it will shut my good friend John Forsyth up. For a little while anyway.
  10. Must take a long time for the mail to migrate to the east coast. Anyone who has spent any time on the range with Ken Hackathorn knows he's about the most knowledgeable guys around in the field of firearms training. He doesn't get all wrapped around the post professing what is right and what is wrong. He doesn't reinvent the wheel. He teaches you how to fight, how to operate around others with a gun most importantly to get good hits. If you haven't trained with him, you owe it to yourself to do so. Save some money by skipping "Kool-Aide" schools and book a Hack class. It's only common sense that tells us that shooting games aren't training unless that's all you do with a gun in your hand.
  11. I see the problem really is that people are over thinking the game. Just step up and shoot it. To me airgunning is walking through the cof before shooting it. ie an individual walkthrough. I don't gig people for standing at the starting point and scoping the angles unless it is blatant. I'll warn them that there are no individual walkthroughs, per the rulebook. MD's who ignore or create their own rules do their club shooters the greatest disservice. By doing so they set them up for procedurals or FTDR's at out of area sanctioned matches and or the nationals. This isn't rocket science. The current ruleset isn't that complicated. I see people splitting atoms over every minutia of the rule book. And the ones that do aren't even at the top of their class. Boy, I can't wait til a new rule book comes out. I expect to see all the familiar names whipped up to a lather over what they don't like about the revisions or lack of revisions. Just shoot the damn stage and quit wasting time. Mark
  12. No "Linda Blair" stances on the El Prez string. (feet facing down range, head facing up range). THough I've seen it attempted more than once.
  13. I've seen guys using mesh shotgun vests. We just kid them enough to give them the guilts that they stop wearing them.
  14. Oh man! Still complaining about the 5" revolver rule change? Come on guys. Move on.... That horse is so beat there's no glue left.
  15. Wilson doesn't make his adjuster. That's the Safariland 560 they make for him. Banjo just can't get over his BW envy or something. Or living under the delusion that the people involved in USPSA don't make money off their game. Do the math Banjo. I'll bet Glock, Kimber and Springfield make more off of IDPA than BW does.
  16. I don't have any inside track on anything with HQ. I just happened to ask when the opportunity presented itself. I don't have an agenda or an axe to grind. I had two questions and both were answered matter of factly to my satisfaction. My impression was that the holster list/issue appears to be the first priority. My other question was the magazine capacity issue. Current limits will remain was the answer I received.
  17. That stage was tricky but not a trap by any means. It was very well administered and explained. If you took a ding there, it was earned.
  18. The ammo issues I had were my reloads. I went back to Rainier 230gr RN's and with the profile change I think I loaded them a tad short. They created problems with my game gun and carry gun after the game gun extractor broke. The carry gun runs my carry ammo 100% and these were the first malfunctions I've ever had w/ the carry gun. And since it was the same problem with both guns it definitely was my ammo. Live and learn. I got a lot of clearance practice and managed keep my guns "in the fight" for the duration. I'll chalk it up to experience.
  19. A lot of fun when I wasn't shooting. Broken extractor at the beginning of the standards turned my blaster into a single shot. Some ammo feeding issues as well. My match was done on day one. I went to the carry rig for the second day and suffered some more serious feed issues. Hey! Where else would they happen but at the nationals right? The match was fun though. Very well run. Our squad experienced no serious backups or problems. The Casa folks and IDPA staff did a great job. Here's some pics that I took. 2004 Nationals Photos
  20. If you can see light between the belt and your body, between the belt and your holster it won't be legal. If you stuff something in to fill the void, it won't be legal. If the holster cant can be adjusted while you wear it, it won't be legal. Women's offset holsters are still being addressed.
  21. Sevigny, Edwards, Gilbertson and Golosky will likely shoot the match on Thursday. That's their usual M.O. All slots are full according to a friend who called a couple of weeks ago and a waiting list. Best to call them yourself though. ROAD TRIP! Working 3 days this weeks is gonna suck.
  22. No problemo. A bad day at the range is better than a good day at work. It's all good. Different strokes for different folks. People need to lighten up, play by the rules remember that it's all about having a good time with like minded individuals! Welcome the return of affordable "Standard Capacity" magazines!
  23. Only four Atlanta area shooters that I know of are going. Three of us are in squad 14. See you guys there. Renting a luxury ride for the long treck from Hotlanta.
  24. Please don't misconstrue my comments.. The problem I see is that some IPSC shooters crossing over to IDPA and break the rules and whining about being called on it. Granted I see more of it online than in real life. Most shooters I know who crossover get along just fine and any of the "us vs them" chit chat is all good natured fun.
