  1. Congratulations on your upgrading to D Jerry. Hope to see you at some ICORE matches.
  2. Just got home and had to check who posted first. I did o.k. except Standards. One of these days's I remember to go slow and shoot Xs. Oh well.. Great match. Good stages and high X count. Fantastic prize table. Kim and Mike did a wonderful job. Chris Salee was spactacular as the prize coordinator. I got to meet some great people that have been on this board and we can now see each other's faces. Hopefully a good time by all.
  3. Yes, when flying the ammo has to be in boxes like factory ammo or in plastic separated boxes so that the ammo cannot accidently go off.
  4. Going to Ca this week for the IRC. I know you can't have loaded magazines in the car with you but can you have moon clips loaded?
  5. The NRA requires 2.5 lb SA trigger pull for the revolver in the Distinguished matches. Actually, the S&W revolver has a different "shelf" for SA than it does for DA. Therefore you can have a solid 2.5-3.5 lb SA and still have a good DA pull. Common main spring, but different engagement surfaces. For the S&W it is very difficult to get the DA pull below 6.5 -7.5 lb and have it fire reliably and "trigger return" reliably. A Python can get below 6lb DA pull and work reliably. MJ <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Randy Lee from ApexTactical has been doing reliable triggers on Smith And Wesson Revolvers well below the 6.5 lbs you mention. My last trigger from Randy was 4.5 lbs on a 627 and it has been 100% reliable with over 5000 rounds fired through it so far. My backup gun will have a better trigger since I didn't screw with it first. Rules always change but the winners will adapt and will continue to win.
  6. The problem is that Shangri-La generally only seems to appeal to about five or six people who actually want to live there on a full time basis. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Actually Shangri-La is a pretty nice place to live if you enjoy a nudist resort her in Phoenix.
  7. Revolver Friendly? with 6 poppers. Every auto has a chance to miss at least twice and the revolver guy had beater be dead on especially since you are using US poppers as well. Of course, if you only shoot six and hit six it's as friendly as anything else. One shot, one hit is faster than blasting away.
  8. John just do like the rest of us and practice from 50 to 3 yards the targets are probably somewhere inbetween those distances. I hope you come over Sunday. We are going to shoot some of the stages without knowing the correct distance but timing will still be good to know.
  9. I always use a nice little trick. If the paster doesn't do their job when called for that or brass they go to the bottom of the clip board. At local matches that aren't squadded this could put the person down 20 shooters before they finally get up to shoot. If they still don't do their job down they go again. They will get the idea.
  10. Try CactusMatch.com and Riosladospotsmansclub.com Cactus host USPSA matches at Ben Avery on the first sunday of the month. They also hold matches every Thursday night that are not USPSA but come real close and starts at 7 p.m. On the second Sunday, 3rd Saturday and 4th Sunday Rio hosts UPSPS matches. They also hold a steel match every Tuesday. Starts at about 3:30. Phoenix Rod and Gun Club has steel matches every Thursday night. They are in South Phoenix at 7th Ave and the South Mountain. All of these clubs have instructors that are part of the club or have their own instruction schools and should be able to help you right along. If you are shooting revovler come to Rio on the first Sunday of the month for revolver only matches.
  11. Welcome aboard to ICORE. Looks like you guys are well under way. Great web site. I know the restrictions of working in an indoor range. Good thing you can have the match during the week. Since I know of someone that just got transferred to Va I'll let her know about the matches. Good luck.
  12. Danger... Danger Will Robinson Yeah, it sounds like a good idea, especially at the club level and it will save time but it will come back and bite you at any big match where the shooter can sneak in a reshoot because someone taped a target or reset the poppers before they were "officially" scored or before they got to see their hits and yes I have seen this happen. If you are letting the squad call the hits and tape then you should make it clear that there will be no reshoots do to an argument about hits. If the RO is doing his job he shouldn't be following up and scoring targets, he should be right next to the CRO and keeping track of the shooter, hits, faults, etc.
  13. Blazer is good ammo. Reliable and accurate. Wolf is steel cased. I've seen it cause lots of jams and I wouldn't want to use it in a match.
  14. Good stage design but needs only a few improvements. Make A a lateral area so that the shooter can move across and that solves the problem with the rule of 9 shots maximum from one position I believe. It's a nice 6, 6, 6, 6, 6 stage. Revolvers would reload a lot, but's that's the norm. Add a few vision barriers for a larger match ( I know how hard it is to get help at a local match so the fewer probs the better).
  15. The stages for this year's IRC are posted at ICORE.ORG for anyone that wants to look them over. See you there Bubber
  16. Standards. Three sets of targets down range stacked one above the other. Bottom target is 12" off the ground. The array is one yard apart. String 1 50 yards. Time : 9 Seconds. At signal draw and engage each target with one shot each.from the prone position from box A. String 2 25 yards. Time : 7 Seconds. At Signal draw and engage each target with 1 round each from box B. String 3 10 yards. Time : 10 Seconds. At signal draw and engage targets with 2 rounds each with a mandatory reload from box C. String 4 3 yards. Time : 10 Seconds. At signal draw and engage the top 3 targets with 2 rounds each strong hand only. Make a mandatory reload and engage the bottom 3 targets with 2 rounds each weak hand only. For each X you shoot 1 second is subracted from your time. It takes 36 seconds to shoot the stage. Penalties are for each overtime shot, 10 seconds. Extra shots 5 seconds. Extra hits 5 seconds. The X zone is only 4 inches in diameter.
  17. Well it won't be long now and more than 100 revolver shooters, closer to 200, will converge on San Luis Obispo, Ca for the International Revolver Championships. If's you pre registered you all ready know the stages. What do you thing of them? It looks to be the most 6 round neutral match yet. It sure looks like an accuracy heavy match with lots of bonuses for X ring hits. Two good assault courses and the rest look like little movement or stand and deliver stages, and then the infamous Standards. I wish Pickett would clean this one so we can get rid of it.
  18. I shot a model 10 in USPSA for many years and had great luck with it. I still think my reloads with JetLoaders were faster than my best time with moon clips. One advantage you have with the 610 is that you can make Major which is a big advantage if you don't hit all A's and C's. You definately can't afford a D shooting Minor. If you can't find JetLoaders, get Safariland Comp IIIs. There are a few tricks to making them work even faster so if you do it give me an e-mail and I'll try to talk you through it.
  19. [besides the grips do you know what the difference is between a regular 625 and the Jerry Miculek version? One difference is that on the Miculek 625 the cylindar has been shortened and the barrel moved back so that their is less jump of the bullet to the forcing cone.
  20. I have never had luck with Coated bullets. The coated jackets will split off the bullet and you will even find pieces of the jacket in the target when you shoot close. Regular jacketed bullets have never shown this problem. The jacket's stay in tact If you must use jacketed spend the extra money.
  21. Do the reload. Why try to outsmart the stage designer? You will eventually have to reload under pressure so you may as well reload whenever you get a chance at a match. In the long run you will gain much more than you lose for one stage.
  22. Shoot Revo or the bottom feeders that you beat will get mad. Does it really matter what class you put yourself in? I enjoy shooting my Revolver and don't have to compete against anyone else. It's nice to see how I stack up in the overall but as long as I'm doing my best I don't care where I come in.
  23. Jerry: Congrats on making C. What will really get those auto shooters is when you start beating them with your revolver. Some things I've noticed at matches... people volunteer to pick up my brass. I get all my brass back, at USPSA matches I get in all the reloading practice I need. I love shooting revolver. Hopefully there is an ICORE club near you and you can shoot their matches as well. Try ICORE.ORG.
  24. Go with the CR Speed holster. You can order one from Brownells. I added a nylon bolt to the front cap of the holster just to insure me that the gun wouldn't fall out. Not that I had a problem with that but the thing is so fast I just wanted a little extra insurance in my mind.
