  1. No problem for me … I already have a steel grip and very heavy scope on my KelTec P11 - my carry gun already weighs about 57 ounces. Tough on my pocket, but, damn, I get great splits with it. (This should be in the Humor Section, I guess).
  2. It was all played up big time right here on BE a month ago. STI said if any mods were made to the gun, it voided the warranty. Who shoots OPEN and makes No Changes to the gun ?
  3. A month ago, STI announced "no more repairs" . The next day, my 12 year old TruBor broke - the barrel lug. I contacted them, and sent photos. They sent me a shipping label. Few minutes ago, my repaired TruBor was returned to me by UPS. Going to range tomorrow to test it out. Will let you know how it goes.
  4. I always go to Melbourne - very nice beach and lots of nice restaurants. But, I'm sure the other two locations are probably very nice, also. If you're going to be at Mickey Land, Cocoa is closer. I'd much prefer to go to St Augustine than Jacksonville, but even St Augustine is a hike.
  5. Well thought out post One other option : Steel Grip. Big difference.
  6. Similar problem with my decade old TruBor a month ago. Turns out it was the barrel lug - cracked. Didn't see it at first because of the oil/grease.
  7. PA is Very User Friendly - full auto, suppressors. 50 round mags. CT used to be very friendly but I'm not sure what happened after that school shooting 8 -10 years ago (Sandy Hook). NY is definitely 10 round ONLY. You cannot own an 11 round mag.
  8. A heavier gun will help (steel grip), as will a tighter grip with the weak hand. You might also try a different compensator. What gun and load are you using ?
  9. Yes, thanks. Are they still shooting USPSA there ?
  10. I wouldn't spend too much time working on my reloaded ammo until I tried a box of factory ammo. If I had the same problem with factory ammo, I'd be looking at the gun or mag, not the reloads. Reason I asked if your OAL is 1.166 or 1.116, is that lots of people mix the two up - read one when it is actually the other - the 1.166" sounds awfully long to me. I'd suspect that your loads were actually 1.116".
  11. You have a great start there, with a great gun, super caliber (pun intended) good bullets and some good powders) BUT, I don't see anything about a timer. What your should look for is any speed savings with the different loads. Pick a COF (El Presidente, or anything else). Which load is faster, for YOU, in Your gun. If the five loads result in 5.9, 5.8, 5.7, 5.6 and 5.5 seconds, I'd take the 5.5 second load. BTW, if you're going to put up with the inconvenience of shooting .38 Super (the brass issue), I'd use the advantage of the caliber and use 3n38 or one of the other slower powders than WAC or even HS6. But, the issue, is that your best load is the one that you can shoot the fastest with, IMHO. So, you need a timer.
  12. 1. How does the gun do with factory ammo ? 2. Is your OAL at 1.166 ? or 1.116 ?
  13. Fortunately, this is mostly an outdoor sport - little tougher to transmit viruses outdoors, I believe.
  14. Another club near Scranton - forgot the name.
  15. I shot at Wolf's range just south of Hartford, but the last I heard, they switched over to IDPA. You could also try DutchessCounty near Poughkeepsie, NY, but you'd be limited to 10-round mags.
  16. I've never shot a shorty, but I've been reading posts here at BE for a decade, and have seen quite a few comments that the shorties are tougher to control, shooting Major factor ammo.
  17. Buy a spare gun - it will come in handy down the road anyway.
  18. Muzzle flip can be lessened by : 1. lighter springs in your gun 2. ammunition change - heavier bullets and lower PF's 3. your grip (very strong with the weak hand). 4. add weight to the gun (if permitted), eg heavy mag well, etc
  19. I'd stick with what you have for a while - the pistol is fine - not the best, as you said, but more than adequate. Pistol shooting is usually the least important in 3-gun (IMHO) - usually a plate rack at the end. Save your money and use what you've got. You don't say where you're from, or how much experience you have, but I'd suggest getting a private lesson from a local GM - great way to learn a LOT FAST.
  20. Those are definitely bad ones, but you also have to watch yourself holstering at the safety table, and keeping ammo away from the safety table, and be careful thru the RO's commands to "make ready" and "unload and show clear". LOTS of people have been DQ'd at the safety table and while getting ready to shoot and reholstering at the end. And, don't drop a loaded gun.
  21. RJH really hit it all on the head (see above). Hold the gun lighter with your strong hand, and that will make it easier for your trigger to move the proper way. Without pulling the gun Down. Compensate by gripping MUCH tighter with your weak hand. That should help, since it sounds like you're already doing everything else properly.
  22. That's Ben's major point . Speed up - it's okay to feel out of control, during practice sessions. With the proper grip, springs and trigger technique, you can feel out of control but still hit the target. I've shot slowly, hoping to speed up, for decades - doesn't seem to work very well. During practice, I'm practicing stronger grip, better trigger control and going "out of control" - getting better at it. Have a ways to go (a long ways).
