  1. +1. Be nice to include the name of the town the range is in, also (if it's not in the name of the club, of course).
  2. I just clicked on the site, and they're all Out Of Stock on the 9mm. Jack
  3. I just got my invitation to the Nat'ls OPEN division, and first thing I did was order a spare STI TruBor from Brazos. And I bought some extra batteries for my muffs/C-More. Still trying to figure out how to get the ammo out to the match, and make sure the guns are sighted in properly when I arrive. Good luck, but if you're a C shooter, I hope you come in 2nd (I'd sure like to come in 1st). Jack
  4. I just sent them an e-mail and rec'd a response within 24 hours. Jack
  5. Not really a great idea from a competitive standpoint. Why practice with something that's easier to shoot? Sure, you'll save a few pennies on powder, but it's not really saving any wear on the gun. If the gun was built properly it's going to go many, many tens of thousands of rounds before anything significant might need to be replaced. It really is NOT easier to shoot, IMHO. Seems exactly the same to me. And I do worry about wearing the gun out, since I'm shooting 10,000 rounds a year thru it. Plus, it's quieter (I'm shooting 500 feet from some neighbor's houses). No real advantage that I can think of to practicing with the pf 165 loads when the pf145 loads work just as well. Jack
  6. Before I started reloading, I put 3,000 rounds of the cheapest factory ammo (Remington) that I could find, and it was fine as long as I kept the gun clean and lubed well. The cases aren't thrown very far - but they do clear most of the time (occasional stovepipes). It runs well on major reloads, but my practice ammo is till much lighter (pf 145, rather than 165) - seems to run the same, and it probably saves the gun some wear and tear.
  7. I do clean the mags every time they hit the ground. Sounds like SVI is the way to go - that's what Howard has coming at me soon - hopefully that will solve all my problems. Thanks for all the ideas. Jack
  8. I could only get 20 rounds in the mag, and that's what I've always loaded. Probably have about 10,000 rounds thru the gun, with 4 mags - hard to tell exactly how many have been through this mag - mostly thru the 170 mm mag, and then evenly split, I suppose, thru the other 3 140's. Not sure what Dawson put in them, but I "assumed" (Yes, I know what that means), that they are strictly STI components, tuned by Dawson (but not really positive, now that I think about it). Not sure that a round was between the follower and the mag - I think all the rounds fell out and the follower stayed down at the bottom of the mag - with no rounds in it - doesn't make any sense, but I think that's what happened. Jack
  9. I have two SVI mags ordered from Howard, and they're almost ready - looking forward to getting my hands on them. My 140 mm STI is a stock STI but "tuned" by Dawson 15 months ago. Possible that the springs should be changed? Could that be the problem? Jack
  10. I had two separate problems at today's match (only shot 3 of the 5 stages, and quit), but I'm separating them - here's one: I reloaded a previously reliable mag loaded with 9mm major (140 mm mag from STI, and tuned by Dawson Precision 15 months ago), fired a few rounds and the gun "jammed". Looked down and found there was no cartridge in the frame of the gun, removed the mag and found there were no cartridges to be seen at the top of the mag. All the remaining cartridges had "fallen down" inside the mag, and fell out when I turned the mag over. The follower was down three - quarters of the way down the tube, and stayed there until I took it apart. What would cause a mag to drop the follower like that? (This is the second time I 've had the problem with a mag - the other was a year ago, and was a 170 mm mag tuned by Dawson Precision - after three trips back, I asked for, and was granted, my money back, but never found out what the problem was. Any ideas? Jack
  11. Do you have a Blade Tech holster for a Browning Hi-Power? Jack
  12. I guess there isn't any way that the C-More would be sighted in for both the .22 and the 9mm after the top end change? They'd have to shoot to different points of impact, wouldn't they? Jack
  13. Thanks, I thought I had read that many people are having trouble getting the STI mags to feed in .22. That would be the easiest solution to have a .22 conversion kit - same grip, same sights, etc. Thanks for info. Jack
  14. I'm thinking of buying a .22 and adding a C-More to get some inexpensive practice. What is the easiest way to get a similar feel to a STI TruBor in grip and trigger. I'm looking for a gun that I can purchase and shoot, not have to tune and fidget with (I understand the STI .22 conversions take some playing with to get them & the mags to run properly). Does Ruger or Browning (or anyone else) make a .22 that has a grip similar to the STI TruBor? Thanks, Jack
  15. How do I reach him and how much does he charge for the brass? Jack
  16. I'm all out of SP primers - any problem using SR primers with these 9mm loads? Jack
  17. Howard told me that the two mags I ordered last August would be here "in the next week or two" for the last ten weeks. Three weeks ago, they were all finished, but had to be "sent out to be engraved" but I haven't heard anything since. If anyone hears from him, pls let us know so we can reach him. Jack
  18. If Howard isn't customizing mags, who is the next best source of tuned mags for a 9mm STI TruBor? Looking for a 170 mm mag that holds 29-30 rounds. Jack
  19. Has anyone been able to get in contact with Howard lately? I tried to leave an e-mail with him, and was told his inbox was full. Jack
  20. Has anyone heard from Howard lately? I just tried to send him an e-mail, and was told his inbox is full. Thanks, Jack
  21. Any problems using Small Rifle Primers in 9mm minor loads? Thought I read that someone felt that might cause a problem (don't remember what the problem was). I'm stocking up on SRP's for my 9mm major loads, and wondering if its safe to use them in my minor loads, so I don't have to stock the SPP's as well. Jack
  22. My grandson just got a M16 full auto air soft for Christmas, and is going thru pellets faster than we can supply him. Where's the best place to buy the airsoft pellets ? I just spent $15 at Gander Mtn for 2,000 - one third the price of .22 LR's:((( Must be a place to buy them for $5 -6 / 2,000? Jack
  23. The most fun I've ever had at a match was indoors, like yours, and the COF was completely hidden - you open a door, an shoot what had to be shot - but you didn't know what you'd find behind the door, and there were three different doors, and three different COF's. One you had to go prone (couldn't see anything from above) and the room was mostly dark ( little light filtering in) and a floodlight shining in your face - boy was that great !!!
  24. I'm unfamiliar with the brand, also, but a few thoughts: 1. I'm not concerned about "uniform cases from the same manufacturer" - I shoot what we call "range brass" = mixed brands picked up at the range, and they work very well for me. 2. Not positive, but isn't EUR 20 the equivalent of about $27 USD? That is quite a bit lower than we'd pay for new brass in the USA - we pay more like $150/1,000. But, very few people buy new brass, when we can buy used 9mm brass for $15 -$ 45 / 1,000. The brass does last for quite a few reloads, and used seems to work well for me. You are very lucky if you can buy brand new brass for $27 US/1,000 - but sounds like you might be buying used brass, not new for that price. 3. I'd be looking at your pistol and try to determine why it is "ripping" new brass. That sounds dangerous =- either the cartridges or the gun could be dangerous to you - I'd have a gunsmith check it all out - try the ammo in another gun and see if it "rips". I'd limit my shooting until I cleared up that little matter. Welcome to the Forum, and good luck - hope you solve your problem. Jack I am now looking for a greater number of uniform cases from the same manufacturer to avoid the hassle dealing with lots of different brands (and qualities) of cases. I would like to ask if some of you know these cases (this very brand/make, i.e. DAG/RUAG) and could tell me about the actual quality of them. I don't want wo buy, say, 10.000 of them just to learn that they also rip apart or are otherwise unsuitable for reloading. The price is EUR 20 per 1000 which equals USD ~ 14,30. I am aware that this is a german/swiss brand and this is US based forum, so chances might be sort of reduced that anyone knows them, however I'd like to give it a try. I'd also like to know if this is a fair price.
  25. EGW is working on mine right now:))) Should be almost finished. Can't wait to see it. Their photos (on their website) look really impressive. Jack
