  1. I added one to my brand new TruBor a few months ago, and after a few hundred rounds, the slide wouldn't go forward all the way - seems a burr developed on the buff and kept the slide from sliding - had to "deburr the buff" - guess I should patent that phrase. Haven't had any trouble with it since, but as Howard said, I'm sure it's waiting for just the wrong time to act up again. Jack
  2. Strange, I didn't see anything like that in any New York papers I think Florida would freeze over before we'd see a positive shooting article in any local paper around here.
  3. In my case, I left my SD out in the garage for 12 years, and it rusted. - They replaced or fixed everything that was rusted =- all MY fault, not theirs. But they fixed everything anyway - super service, and quick - no charge to me, except for my shipping the reloader to them.
  4. Try your Sig 229 - get belt, holster, mags & mag holders and try out some IDPA and IPSC matches - you have some near you in Old Bridge and near Allentown, PA. Have a blast, and wait until you decide whether you want to shoot IDPA or IPSC before you decide what to buy - you might be able to shoot both, but I can't - the rules are too confusing for this old dude when I'm tryign to shoot fast - try them both out, and then decide. Good luck with it - I might see you in the Allentown area. Jack
  5. I sent my SD back early this year, and got it back when they said it would come back, and it was in perfect condition when it arrived - Very Happy with Dillon. Jack
  6. Nothing wrong with C's if you're shooting major. If shooting minor, you have to evaluate the problem with C's - especially if both of us are C shooters to begin with. If you're an A shooter (I doubt I'll ever get there) you might need to step up to more A's to make the hurdle - but right now, I aim at the A zone, but am happy to shoot 1/2 C's with a major load. Jack
  7. I'm thinking of spending the winter in Destin, FL, and wondering where are good IPSC matches within a two hour drive? I need one per weekend:)) I looked at the USPSA guide, and didn't know where some of the ranges are - HELP.. Thanks, Jack

  9. Five or six years ago, there used to be a KelTec discussion group - like this group. Not sure if it still exists, but they are a bunch of very knowledgeable people re: KelTecs. Jack
  10. Sounds like a great cheap way to practice, but How Accurate are these guns? How far will they shoot accurately? Will they stay in a three inch circle at 50 feet? Jack
  11. I'll make you feel "better" about this - when I ordered my TruBor almost a year ago, I was a kid on Christmas morning - the gun finally came in to my FFL, who kept the gun until he could get to the police range and fire a shot thru it to keep the cartridge case as part of a registration process. That took about a week:((((
  12. I've missed an entire full-sized popper at 10 - 12 yards using the same technique = But, imagine if that "man on man" was shooting back at You, rather that at another plate:((( Betcha it would be Real Easy to miss an entire person at 7 yards if he was shooting at you. Somebody (Clint Smith?) said that if you're real close, don't think that you can't miss, but think that you Better Not miss.
  13. Shooting "man on man" last year - had to shoot 4 bowling pins a steel target and a stopper - every once in a while, one shot would take down two bowling pins, and we'd all laugh. I shot one stage when one shot took down three (3) bowling pins - that no one laughed at. Just moans. I contributed the "winnings" on that stage to the club - just couldn't take it. Jack
  14. Welcome, Nick, I did the same thing !! I used to shoot IPSC back in the late 80's and early 90's, and quit until last year. But, the itch returned, with a vengeance ... A few things have changed since the 90's, from my perspective, anyway: 1. the shooters are all much better than they were:(( 2. the guns are better - when you get to the range, you'll see STI's that will make you shake your head, and wonder whey they didn't exit back then - in both OPEN & Limited, these new guns can't be beaten - they are superb. But, don't let #1 and #2 slow you down - it's still fun to shoot with my 45 year old Browning Hi-Power, or whatever you have stashed away - there is a revolver category, and a bunch of other categories, also, so you will be shooting not against the STI's (God forbid) but against people who have guns like we used to have:)) Good luck with your shooting. Jack
  15. I'll have to look again another day (I just cleaned my gun), but I believe that there's NO Mark on the black grime on my feedramp - it's all solid black. Does that sound really good, or really bad? Not having any problem with feeding... Jack
  16. You've hit on the age - old problem. You want (and so do I) to carry the smallest, lightest gun you can find (or deny you need one and carry nothing), but when you need the gun, you want the biggest, heaviest gun ... How you plan to carry is very important - pocket guns are the best concealed, IMHO, and that's very important in NYS - if anyone reports me that I'm carrying (they "make" me), I can lose my license - now you're limited to small, light guns. I carry the Kel-Tec P11 in 9mm, loaded with +P+ loads, which work out to about standard velocity from the short barrel. But, I have 11 shots of 9mm completely concealed - in my pocket holster - I wear it even in a pair of shorts on a hot day, and no one has "made" me, yet, that I know of. Depends on how important the concealment factor is, if I had a badge I'd carry in a strong side holster, with the badge right in front of it, and then I'd carry a larger pistol , but I'd stay with light. The only advantage of the 9mm is cheaper to practice with, and smaller, lighter gun. If you're shooting a .40, that's a big advantage to carrying a .40. Tough choices - good luck.
  17. The main reason I hate classifiers is that so many of the better shooters seem to do very poorly, only in that one COF. I'm usually amazed to see that I came in 15th - 19th pretty consistently in the other five stages, and came in 5th in the classifier. And, I beat out so many A & B shoooters (I'm a C shooter) - who beat the pants off me in the other five stages.
  18. Thanks, everybody, from the last post about it costing $100 (I'm in NY sending to PA also), I think I'll just drive the 100 miles down there and say hello to George, and ask some questions. Sounds like a pretty hairy experience shipping the guns, and expensive as well. Jack
  19. I just got the word to send my gun into EGW, and I'm all excited about that - but remember reading somewhere that you have to send it UPS Overnight, and there might be other restrictions. And, heavy insurance... Can anybody point me in the right direction so I don't run afoul of the law? Jack
  20. If you go with the 9mm (perfect for IDPA) you don't have to reload, at all - take the $500 or more you'd pay for reloading equip & buy ammo - no hassles. If you're going to reload anyway, you can save some money on even the 9mm - since brass is so inexpensive (2nd hand brass) - I save all my practice brass, and quite a bit of my match brass - it's really only the bullet, powder and primers, which are about $4/box with lead bullets - right now the cheapest factory ammo I've seen lately is double that. The .40 is quite a bit more expensive to load for,] but more flexible for IPSC.
  21. And, if the gun has the small, thin wooden grips, try a Hogue rubber grip (if he has larger hands) Much more secure in your hand than the original grips. Jack
  22. Probably also some matches south of you, in Maryland / VA area.
  23. EGW is good and Cylinder & Slide has been working with Hi-Powers for decades. Depending on what you want to do with the gun, there are some other things to consider doing to the gun besides the safety & sights - the trigger is usually heavy/creepy - removing the mag safety really helps a great deal, but you lose the safety?? (I've had it removed from both my Hi-Powers, and it made a huge difference in the trigger pull). The hammer will bite your hand, unless you have it cropped - take the bottom part off and you won't bleed anymore. Get some new mags from Mec-Gar (they're stainless steel, and really work well with 15 rounds each (avoid the mags from Cheaper than Dirt, they don't work). There are two Browning Hi=Powers (P-35's) - the early one has an internal extractor that is no longer being made - so, once you have 5,000 - 10,000 rounds thru the gun, you will need to locate an old antique extractor and pay $75 for it (that's what I did last year). The newer models have an external extractor, and I presume they're still being made. If it's an older model, you might not want to think about shooting 10,000 rounds/year thru it - buy the newer model and shoot that. You got a great gun - it shoots well - mine runs with any type of ammo and never jams (except in matches, occasionally:(( - and is a great gun to shoot - and you can also add a magwell & beavertail if you would like, down the road (EGW has both). Good luck with it, and welcome to the Wonderful World of P-35's. Jack
  24. Guthsville is near Topton ( not far from Allentown). There's one near Scranton - Factoryville. The nearest in NJ is Old Bridge. All three are excellent IPSC experiences. Jack
  25. I agree with all that has been written so far, but one other thought. I've had TMJ for decades now, but keep it under control with two exercises - makes life more fun again, with less pain. One exercise is to turn your head to one side, and try to turn back to straight while applying counter pressure with your hand (that strengthens some muscles involved in TMJ). Hold 10-20 seconds a few times a day (while I'm driving in the car, ALONE:)) The other exercise is to pull your chin in firmly so you can feel the pressure at the back of your neck - hold it for 10 - 20 seconds, a few times a day. Might help the TMJ, and then your wife will be able to 1. enjoy life, and 2. wear ear muffs. Hope it helps.
