  1. PB - That is so true on most shows. I guess I'm spoiled by Knob Creek. And I can't afford much there. My best friend is coming to town and thought we'd do the show thing on Sat. and shoot Sunday. Any fun shoots around? Otherwise we'll do the indoor thing in NKY. Class III indoors is always a crowd pleaser.
  2. I've been to plenty of Goodman fun shows but never a "proshow". Has anyone? I may hit both but was wondering if it was worth the drive from the So Ohio area. TIA Joel
  3. I just got my new STI Trojan last night. Man does it shoot! Dawson was/is running special on the Trojan in 45 which includes the Dawson FO front sight and SA magwell (~$921). Of course I can't leave well enough alone. I also had them add their FO rear sight as well...and thought while I'm at it, let Dave Dawson do his enhancement pkg. Which includes fitting, sighting, re-working trigger to a CRISP 3#, and polishing where needed etc. My guy at the local fun store was impressed with all the attention to detail with the fitting and polishing. Before I even got it out of the case he was saying you've got to check the trigger...I was worried at first given his excitement...he meant it in a good way. The trigger is really sweet...not sure how to put into words but sweet none the less...crisp, light but not too light...I've never had a trigger this light and I think this is about right for me. Dawson was great to deal with. I told them what I thought I wanted...they then ran down a bunch of questions and we were set. Overall it took about a month for delivery...they gave me a ship date from the beginning and stuck to it...shipped as promised overnight. I ran through two boxes of ball ammo (PMC and Agullia) last night without a hiccup, fte, etc. ...just what I had expected really. Finish...was ok. I'm not really a big fan of the flat blue and may send it out for a nice black over green someday...all t-black. Grips - Nice wood. May change someday when right ones come along. Checkering - very nice. In fact the front strap was much sharper than I expected. It is the "chain link" style on the front. Don't tell the GF but THIS is my Valentine! My apologies for no pic but it looks just like the one listed here in the classifieds... http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=60599 Happy Valentine's Day...now where's my Thompson??
  4. Great taste in cameras. It would be hard to go wrong with one. Personally I shoot a Canon D20...but Leica is on my list...with a Wilson Combat CQB, etc. Save enough in your budget to get a copy of Photoshop or Photoshop Elements...no need for a lab anymore. Good luck!
  5. Welcome to be. As a fairly new shooter too - another thing I was told was to get a timer. I just got mine and feel its helping already. This site is a great resource so "search" a lot. hk_mtbr
  6. I have been a "sponsored" mountain bike racer for several years...I haven't won any nationals and you wouldn't know my name. I ride for a local shop. We get discounts and some swag for free...and free tune-ups (One sponsor is an orthopedic Dr. clinic). The main draw for the shop is local brand awareness. When a bunch of sponsored guys show up you can't help but notice us. Cycling has even more obnoxious uniforms than shooters...and we don't wear underwear...but that is for another thread. In addition to the shop sponsor, one year I contacted the owner of a local establishment that we frequented (we like beer too). I took a proposal for $300 and a list of all the events I would be at and they paid me. I put their name on my stuff and all was happy. At the end of the season I took them a picture of myself with their name showing proudly. That $300 helped to pay for entry fees that year for me and everyone asked about a the bar who sponsored a cyclist. I too have thought about approaching a local shop... One drawback is that they may want to tell you what to use for equipment. Good luck and let us know how it works out. hk_mtbr
  7. Thanks steel1212- I'm going to try to make it this time...only time will tell
  8. Directions please...or range address. Are 9mm rifles welcome/capable? tia
  9. Can we have some of those umbrella girls to keep cool while waiting to shoot? Old video:
  10. I'm still looking for an IPSC monkey...everbody likes a monkey! I just ordered my first timer from Dawson yesterday...times coming soon.
  11. I wait ~30 minutes after official gametime then start the game. When commercials come on...ZAP! SKIP! Bang...back to the action. Want a replay?? Zap replay button. I paused the game to make this post... ymmv
  12. thanks for the offer guys...i've been talked into sleeping in tomorrow ;-}...nice and cozy-like...see you another time...
  13. Pharoh et al- Are any of you OH guys going to make this match? I'm in NKY and thinking about going. I haven't tried IDPA yet... Still thinking on it...
  14. Thanks to PB and the gang for a great shoot! Well run and not nearly as cold as it could have been! The fireplace was a nice touch. Thanks to Bob V. for the advice and inspiration...and Adrian for his inspiration. That kid can shoot! ...and my appologies to all the "no-shoots"...I really didn't mean to shoot you...really.
  15. OK I just spent my cash on a SS 1911... First thanks for all the opinions... Not a Taurus nor a Spartan...I just ordered an STI Trojan from Dawson and had them add the Dave Dawson enhancement package as well. It is a pretty nice deal. They are offering free FO front sight and an SA magwell for no extra charge. TBD 2/12 Hopefully this will be the last gun I buy this year...right
  16. I'm just wondering if anyone has experience with the Taurus 1911. The price is right and they are feature packed. The crazy low price makes me wonder about durability though. I've also been condering a 1911 that was re-worked at Wilson combat on an original WWI frame...this is on the other end of the price spectrum however. Thoughts? tia
  17. To keep things moving, I'll only classify in one category...but I'll be there!! Thanks for putting this together!
  18. Very Nice!! I tell all my "new" friends they can shoot as much as they want to buy. When they find out ammo prices they tend not to "over do" my gun. BTW - for some real fun. Pick up an HK91 as a host for your trigger pack...It'll sure put a smile on your face trying to do a mag dump and keep 'er on target. If you don't already visit there... www.hkpro.com has all sort of info and good boards too. Congrats!!
  19. Thanks Flex- That is good to know...

    Buying Cars

I know there is a "mini-mart"...but is there a "car dealer" course of fire???
  21. Ignorant question...noob here... As I read this, it seems as though you can qualify in different classes while there... How is this handled? Do you carry extra gun in bag? Max number? I guess I'm looking forward to getting my D card everywhere I can...:-)
  22. The P7 is a single stack...maybe that class? it might really put the 1911 guys in a spin...:-)
