  1. My gun had similar problems My gunsmith lowered the barrel into the barrel channel and it ran 100% from then on. Friends gun same thing, same cure
  2. I think the NROI will have no problem seeing the slide panels as "serrations" rather than "slide lightening" STI supports the sport as much if not more than any other firearm manufacturer. Politics
  3. Is it possible that the frame hole is on the small side of the acceptable tolerances and the pin is on the large side? I think its a good problem to have
  4. Hated to miss this one, hopefully I can make it next year. Results, Pics, stage descriptions, available?
  5. I have convenient access to our PD range the problem is that it is only 50yds long. So my question is if I can shoot a 1/4" group at 50yds should I expect the same rifle to shoot a 1/2" group at 100yds? Does it work that way? I have access to a range out to 300yds but it is not something I can run over and test a load or the scope on a rifle in an hour or less.
  6. Finally got around to building the shooting bench. We modified some plans we found via Google to suit our needs. It is 60" across the front and 48" front to back. T shaped so it will accommodate right or left handed shooters, or shooter and spotter simultaneously and has built in sitting areas. Built on 4x4 legs with 2x6 framing and a 3/4' plywood top all screwed together with 3" drywall screws. it is super sturdy and will fit our needs nicely. Will get a coat of paint on it in the near future so it will be more weather resistant and we will be good to go.
  7. Thanks Shooter I was beginning to think I wouldn't get a reply
  8. Hate to miss this one, but my daughter is graduating from College that morning. maybe next year
  9. Anybody have good plans for a benchrest? We only have a 50yd departmental range but I would still like to have a good solid shooting platform.
  10. Can you remove the stock sights with that tool?
  11. Where can I find an old style Glock sight adjustment tool? I don't want with adapters to fit all models, the Department I work for has one and it is less than ideal. The one I want is an early version with a big wing attached to the driving screw made specifically for a 17 size gun or a different one for a large framed gun. Not interested in an ACME universal sight pusher either. Anybody have an idea?
  12. Looking at the results the top amateur had more points than the top pro. How was score computed and what makes you a pro for this match?
  13. reviving an old thread here. I replaced my extractor in my M&P 9L with a replacement that S&W sent me for free after I wrote them an email detailing the problem. Same failure to extract started occurring again. Bit the bullet and bought the Apex. No failures yet, even made it through the local USPSA match, yea it fails more frequently in matches as pointed out by Bigbrass. It bothers me that I have to buy aftermarket parts to make my gun reliable. I really like the gun or I would have sold it and bought a Glock 34. Hopefully the Apex will fix it for the long haul. My buddies 9 Pro has had no such issues with thousands of rounds down the tube maybe S&W have the issue resolved.
  14. What does soaking it in peroxide do?
  15. I am thinking of having my M&P 9L's slide blasted to remove the melonite finish and leaving it bare stainless or having it Cerakoted in some other color than black. can the melonite be taken off easily? Anyone got pictures of guns done this way? any input appreciated
  16. You can also move metal into the hole by peening the sight body. It only takes a little to work. My gunsmith did my sight (bomar copy) on my SV this way and no more pin drift
  17. 21 DQ's? Was there one particular stage that resulted in the DQ's? What's up with that? I saw names that I would not expect to see on that list
  18. I was shooting my JP rifle with some Winchester white box and was getting groups so big (3"+) I was beginning to think I had a lemon. I'm not a great rifle shot but I know I'm better than a 3" guy. Then I remembered I had some Federal Gold match in my bag. I switched to the Federal and my groups shrunk to 1/2" Apparently ammo makes a huge difference I would never thought it would make that big of a difference though.
  19. I would buy a rifle kit from Palmetto state armory, they have several to choose from. I would learn how to put one together shoot it and then learn what I truly wanted and needed and build the dream rifle from top quality parts then. You can still buy a JP upper? Pretty good stuff there and build a good lower you will be in the game. Then you have 2 rifles 1 for 3 gun 1 to pass down to a child or sell it to a buddy and recoup some or all of your money
  20. I switched to a real gun (STI Edge) from a real gun (1911) because there were no glocks or M&P's when I started shooting USPSA or IPSC matches. My scores improved because I liked shooting my new gun so I went out and practiced.
  21. Followed advice from RePete and my conversion went fairly smooth. Stripped down the machine wiped all parts down including the frame. I had to adjust the shellplate down a little and adjust the dies but all else went very smooth. I also replaced the white nylon tabs that hold the shellplate down. My machine was purchased in 1999 and is running like new again. If nothing else the conversion gave me a chance to clean it up real good, probably should do a clean up once a year anyway. I am going to load up a bunch of .40 then switch it back to .45 probably in the spring.
