  1. My square deal started that and I fixed the problem by taking the piece that holds the primer cup out and pushing it down into the bar that holds it and retightening it. I think the cup and the sides of the cup were dragging on the bottom of the shell plate and flipping the primers. The stem of he primer cup just worked its way up slightly over time. I hope that makes sense, I probably don't have the right name for the pieces involved.
  2. The Tikka has a great reputation for accuracy, but the Remington is probably is much better to build on. I have a .260 that is great for anything I hunt, mainly white tailed deer and hogs. I call my .260 a .243 magnum, you can load it with bullets weighing anywhere from 95 grains to 160 grains to cover just about anything on the North American Continent.Hornady, Nosler and Berger all make great long range bullets for the 6.5mm guns. Mine is built on a Remington action with a Krieger heavy barrel and is supremely accurate.
  3. Go to KNS precision they make replacement AR sights. I like the ones with the small ball on top of the post. I used to use the smallest size but cant see it anymore so I use the middle sized ball. No problems shooting at distance with that sight. I also have an insert that slips into the large aperture of my rear sight and is held in place with an O ring. The insert makes the aperature very small and is helpful when shooting at distance. I bought them in a 3 pack from Brownell's long ago and I don't think they carry them any longer. perhaps another forum member knows where to get one.
  4. If I remember correctly the STI pin has a notch on the center of the pin. serves as a detent to keep pin from walking out but, very prone to break at the notch. A solid pin is a better way to go.
  5. My gunsmith made one out of a piece of pin stock. peened one end until it had a head on it, put it in the sight, trimmed it a little long then peened the other end.
  6. I shoot a lot of single stack, so when I occasionally shoot limited I have to remember that I don't have to reload every time I move
  7. I'm Not sure if barrel was out of spec or not. I shot the pistol in a match this weekend and it ran like a cat on fire. I was very impressed with the way S&W handled it. The pistol was bought in 2009 and I delayed in getting back to them.
  8. After much frustration with the M&P 9L over extraction issues. I broke down and sent it back to S&W. They replaced the extractor on the first trip, I was not feeling good about the issue being fixed but do understand their reasoning behind just replacing the extractor. Still had issues so I sent it back again explaining that I think the issue stemmed from the extractor indexing on the case rim at approximately the 1:30 position when other M&P's I own and have examined index closer to a 3:00 position on the case rim. They returned my pistol to me in less than 2 weeks with a new barrel and a new guide rod installed. The extractor now indexes at the 3:00 position and I have had no further issues with the pistol. S&W customer service was excellent, great turnaround time too.
  9. I've got a Range Officer Operator 9mm good gun at a good price. I have not weighed it don't plan to shoot a match with it where the gun will be weighed. I just wanted it. I wrote what I thought was a pretty good range report and posted it on the 1911forum in the range report section. I played with the springs and got the trigger down to about 2.5lbs added some VZ grips and a S&A magwell. So far I'm very pleased with the pistol
  10. My gun runs all day on .40S&W 180 grain WWB never had a problem with it. I reload but load to factory length. I run a 13lb recoil spring
  11. I thought it would be higher than that I shot one with 59 points in 5.9 and I'm an A class limited shooter with match scores more like a low C class shooter. I guess even a blind hog finds an acorn sometime.
  12. Who's shot an El Prez 100% classifier? What time would you need? how many points? example 60 points in 4 seconds for a hit factor of 15
  13. I have some Wilson 47d's that are 20+ years old and I've never done anything to them except use them. They still work flawlessly. Some stay unloaded in the pistol bag and get used when the gun gets used others are kept loaded in my duty pistol or on my duty belt. I had one follower fail a couple of years ago, I called Wilson they sent me a new one, and a coworker had one split at the weld in the back again Wilson made good on it
  14. I'm going to go against the grain. I say build the GI model just do it a little at a time. I think you will end up with a better pistol in the long run. All the other guns mentioned offer some compromise I think. Although the RO is nice the sight cut in the rear leaves a lot to be desired over a properly installed bomar type sight. I have yet to see any 1911 that was ready to go out of the box all needed work or personal touches added to them that I have owned. I just purchased the range officer operator and while I think it is a great pistol you're limited on rear sight choices or you have to go with a custom based bomar sight to fit a 'Novak cut'.
  15. The rail is permitted in single stack with the length restriction and most everybody runs a magwell. Dave won SSTK national with a Springfield pro it has a 3/4 length rail on it. I'm sure he had a magwell on it too. The guns are inspected pretty thoroughly at a national event, weighed, safety checks and loads chrono'd.
  16. terrydoc my Operator came with a standard MS setup. No ILS bull.
  17. I thought as long as the rail was not over a certain length and the pistol makes the weight requirement that a rail was legal. I think Dave Sevigny won the SS nationals with a railed Springfield Pro
  18. What is the advantage of a 6.5 Creedmore over a .260 Remington? oh and beautiful rifle
  19. A gun that runs 100% and your skill level with that gun is far more important than a 5" or a 6", 5.4" sight tracker or 6" bushing barrel. I have a 5" SV bull barrel I think the gun is capable of winning the nationals in the right hands. Its dead nuts accurate and runs like a top but I can't come close to running it to its full potential.
  20. Will a Larue upper fit on a non Larue lower?
  21. Looks nice but I would be cautious I haven't seen a 1911 or 2011 that didn't need something done to it. Maybe it was just a personal touch done or maybe a complete overhaul. What you save in initial cost may catch up to you in work down the line.
