  1. I think a good way to check your reload when reloading on the move is to make sure your discarded mag is in the spot you made your last shot before the reload Really the hardest part to the reload is getting it started
  2. Carrying one of those devices where you yank the cord out (you can wear around the neck) and it makes a hell of a lot of noise (used in hospitals and nursing homes to make people aware of when patients fall out of bed or wheelchairs) is a non-agressive way that gives the "bad guys" a hell of good reason to get away. Confronting a bad guy aggressively increases the chance of a physical confrontation, if you make a hell of a lot of noise (those noisemakers are painfull to the ears) it gives them an "easy way" out. Ps. I always carry my Benchmade of course
  3. On tight shots I see the "classic" sight picture. Crisp front sight. If you don't see any sight picture how do you know where the bullet went? Learning to see is very important. It takes time so let it come to you just be aware and it will.
  4. The ones that crunched my toes were VERY well used, not bad mouthing the quality of the "Texas Star" one bit.
  5. R & R Racing is pretty dang good quality, and they support the sport around here also. I prefer his design for putting the plates on. I've had the others squash my toes with weak spring, so I may be biased. MGM are great guys too, so buy them from who gives you the best deal This is America after all
  6. You guys are way faster than TGO (per his quote,) that's cool. I thought his take on messuring your performance was pretty cool also. A quote I found while browsing around I just did a 3.8 second El Pres in a demo with an open gun and the load was 1.1 or so. You guys are a lot better than I am! What I really think should be determined is out of 10 of these hypothetical loads, what is the average or better yet, what is the WORST one! That's the one to be worried about. Rob Edited to (hopefully) make the point I intended. No intention to insult anyone, just using TGO's words from his quote in the first post. I should have made that clear.
  7. I see less flip in a match than practice. Maybe I just grip harder or I focus better . I would make different ammo just because then I would have to keep track of it 170 pf for everything I shoot major. Screwing around with loads isn't what I want to do. I've seen to many good shooter go minor trying to hit 165
  8. Sort of like Lance Armstrong, he said he wouldn't have been as good if he didn't get sick and lose all that weight
  9. Hmmm, I like match triggers because they are closer to the triggers on all of my other guns Shooting one trigger that is way different messes with me. Why use a match trigger? Because I can If you don't have good trigger control by all means please don't use a match trigger to make up for poor control. Don't be dangerous. Some people think that my guns have light trigger, I don't, because I can feel the take up in them all and I have control over when they break. With a stock AR trigger there is a lot of trigger creep, and I like to know when the gun is going to go bang so give me a match trigger, good sights, and one that goes bang every time A good trigger has nothing to do with going "faster." (for me)
  10. CR Speed, Ghost, Garcia, Limcat, ect will all work with a scope mount as long as it's not mounted on the bottom of the frame or the trigger guard CR Speed gets my vote, but they are all good.
  11. Without proper training it isn't worth much. If you have proper training it can be very valuable. I've seen beginning shooters jump 1 class in 2 days (2K rounds) with very focused instruction. I've burned 1000's of rounds with little results, and 100's of rounds with great results, it all depends on the focus and training. If you aren't 100% sure of what you are doing, it would be better to pay someone that does then spend the $$$ on rounds you are using to form bad habits.
  12. Why get another gun less <1K ? Sound like what you have is good enough. The 1911 is the ruling platform. If you want another gun, get a high cap .40 with a bushing barrel and you can play in IDPA too. Pistol cost is not the "big" cost, ammo is. .40 is cheaper to reload.
  13. My fear about using a timer for dryfire reloads is that in a match I might not hear that beep that tells me it's time to reload Seriously though, I generally practice reloads between sight pictures. Like lamp, plant, photo, RELOAD, light switch, cup, RELOAD, trophy, light switch, lamp. For me that better simulates getting the reload started and getting back on the sights when it's completed than standing and doing static reloads. It takes the time it takes, trying to beat a buzzer doesn't help me get faster, practicing perfect reloads does though Took some video the other day and they are getting 'bout where they should be for me. (For me a perfect reload = the dropping mag should be about waist level when I'm back on target.)
  14. I've heard a good smith can make it work, that might not be the case though. I'd give Benny Hill a call www.triangleshootingsports.com a find out for sure.
  15. Buy a 40 bushing barrel and you can play in lots of Divisions
  16. Trying for speed is the biggest problem most shooters have. Develop correct form and it will take less time. Speed is a by product, not a product, so the more you try for it the harder it is to get. If you want to shoot better, then you need to increase trigger awareness. Lots of threads on here about that. Your front sight will tell you how much movement is acceptable. You can move it around and see how much you can move it and get an A
  17. Find it a good home with someone who loves it for what it is ... or go over to the darkside ... or send it to me for safe watching and plently of tlc and regular feeding. I've been jonesing for a Caspian to play with since Travis T started the rumor about S_I like mags for them.
  18. Yes it will work, go with the right spring weight versus clipping springs. 15lbs works for many people.
  19. Just make sure you ONLY do the things you can do, those guys (like most M+ shooters) can do things ways you wouldn't even want to try. Know your limits and don't do thing "just 'cause" the local super squad does it that way.
  20. Dunno, but that's what Mike Voigt teaches. You're pushing the gun into the heel of the palm of your hand with the tips of your fingers. Lots of ways to say the same thing Nice posts Flex and Paladin
  21. I get 9mm for $110 per 1000 so for me it's not worth reloading, but I seldom shoot production. If I did I would get brass from the BrassManBrass.com and tune my load.
