  1. I put an S on the headstamp with a sharpie. Takes 2 minutes after I put em in the box after reloading.

Brian, That's pretty cool!!! But I still am fairly fond of my Chevy.
  5. Absolutely. And having just learned how to walk in Single Stack, I've gotten fairly adept at planning.... to 8. Now its 18. I'm not sure that my college educated, children's television mushed brain can handle that many numbers. ;-)
  6. Bart, My shooting 'mentor' loves to point out when people lose 2 or 3 seconds doing a mag change, getting a click, racking the slide and reacquiring that sight picture. Since I've been only shooting SS, I have gotten pretty spiffy at mag changes, so I don't mind doing one (but I ain't gonna miss doing 5)... but I can see the benefit both ways. Ideally, I'd like to have them all do it and STILL get 19 or 20 in the tube, but I can't sink any more cash into the rig until I get some matches under my belt so I know what I need. S.
  7. I've been reading some older threads on Slide Lock on a limited rig and was wondering if the consensus about having a slide lock functional has changed? I am running my first limited match on Saturday and have 4 mags that lock it back with stock followers and 4 mags that don't. The 4 that don't hold 19+1, the 4 that do are 17+1. Obviously there are a lot of different situations where there'd be an advantage to more rounds, but there are also a lot of stages I've seen lately that were reload friendly. The reason I ask is that I've been to 3 level III matches this summer and have seen countless shooters waste time pulling the trigger on an empty chamber with a fresh mag then having to rack it.\ What say you? Thanks. Seth
  8. Looks to me like someone programmed the mill that cut that surface a little aggressively to leave inconsistent tool marks instead of just a nice simple swirl. End mill was probably getting dull too. Damn shame that that was acceptable to QC. With that said, take a piece of 1500 grit and mirror polish it. Don't sweat the grooves of the tool marks, just make it SMOOTH.
  9. I have 9 of them. I bought them at the end of November for running SS this year. Since then, I've shot my first 7 USPSA matches with them, including Area 8, VAMD Sec. and Summer Blast. High round count stuff. Anyhow, my point is that they're extremely easy to clean --- push the big button on the bottom and they come right apart, they're tough as nails.... oh...... and with all that shooting I never had a jam. Zero failures. All lead SWC handloads. Virgil makes a kick ass mag and they work.
  10. I sold it when I moved from San Diego to VA. I didn't need a non street legal toy where there's no where to play with it.
  11. This is my lost child.... 98 Jeep. Nothing less than the finest parts. HP 60s, ARBs, Atlas II, 700r4, Krawlers, beadlocks....
  12. Wax the lens with car wax. It will prevent the fogging and help the sweat that hits the lens run off faster and leave less residue. S.
  13. Nice run. I'm still pleased with my 60% at Summer Blast. That's fantastic!
  14. Sweet. Didn't notice that!
  15. Matt McLearn. Outstanding service and unreal turnaround. He did a trigger on my STI... received the gun on a Tuesday and I had it back on Friday. He's in Arizona and I'm in Virginia!
  16. The room can be a battery, as far as I'm concerned. Its up to you to make sure that the gun is cold.
  17. I unload my race equipment and keep it that way anytime I'm not on range. I have a handful of dummy round that I use for mag change practice, but they're obvious, in that they all are lead bullets instead of Montana Golds. I unload the mags after every practice session and I always check the gun for empty. With that said, I do dryfire in my FROG aiming towards the backyard. If for some impossible reason a round WERE to go off, it would go through my roof into a stand of trees behind my house. The nearest neighbor behind the house is at least 3/4 mile. But.... I have separate dummy rounds that are obvious from a distance different, I NEVER chamber a round while dry firing, and NOBODY touches my gear. Its up to you to be safe.
  18. That's a good point. I tried a number of different fixes for my springer, including a strong magazine spring. What happened then was that the round would pop up in front of the extractor. With the SA mags, I found that it would run great for a few dozen rounds, then choke again if everything wasn't perfect. It was also VERY follower sensitive. With the dimple in the follower at the very back it wouldn't run well. With the dimple in the middle of the follower it was more consistent. It was a terrible headache and was generally unpleasant to sort out. I just wanted it to work.
  19. Bought a Springer Micro last year. Put 1000+ rounds through it and two trips to SA to get it running right. As soon as it ran, I sold it. Too much headache, even if it finally worked. YMMV.
  20. For the sake of comparison, I shot 178 at Summer Blast as well. So its consistent... at least in the right direction!
  21. I like it here. I've learned a lot, my shooting is improving, and it has an atmosphere of respect without any posturing or entitlement. But what I REALLY like are the people. I posted a WTB ad for some followers. I immediately got a response from nm3gnr who offered to send me the followers for the cost of postage. The package arrived in under a week with 6 followers (all like new), 4 springs, and 3 complete factory 140mm basepads ---- For the cost of postage!!!! Damon, you are the definition of a gentleman! I wish I'd written that check for double (and I overpaid what he asked for anyway!). Similarly, I purchased a pair of STI mags from Sfinney. Same outstanding attention. The mags were in my hands in under a week and were 100% perfect. Ran in my edge without issue and even locked the slide back empty! I am astounded at how good the people here are. If only the rest of the world was as polite as shooters. Seth
  22. How are you guys determining spring weight? For example, in my STI, I'm currently using a 14# spring on a 175pf load. The gun runs well. I could go down, but what does it change and what am I sacrificing? S.
  23. I JUST bought a P32 last Friday. I had been doing the same comparisons and decided based on cost and availability to get the Kel Tec --- the wait for a Ruger is about 8 weeks here and there have been reports from my dealer about problems with them. The P32 was about $220 and I decided that that was inexpensive enough to be shoved in my back pocket and beat on daily. I figured if I actually became religious about carrying it, I could always upgrade later. The P3AT was about $80 more. Anyway, I bought my P32 and took it to the range on Saturday. Accuracy is shocking. It'll do one big ragged hole at 7 yards and will print a 5 shot group of about 5" at 15 yards. For giggles we ran a 50 yard standards target out to 25 yards to see what was possible and it was putting all rounds on paper in about a 10" group. Sites are not good, but they ARE accurate at POA. Trigger is heavy but takes up predictably. And most importantly, I have a little wallet holster and can throw it in my back pocket and don't even notice it. I'm quite pleased with the Kel Tec and will probably buy another someday.
