  1. I agree. As stated, the rule implies that 3 loops automatically qualify it as secure, even if it isn't. The 3 loop comment shouldn't be there if it isn't required. However, I understand it is difficult and time consuming to write rule books and respect the time and effort that went into writing ours.
  2. Read the rule book. Even better, go to it online and you can search it for key words, including holster. Thanks - didn't think about the online version, which is much easier with the search tool. The new rule book does state that the holster must be attached securely to a belt, which covers this. Another interesting point is that one rule requires the use of at least 3 belt loops. At a state match last month, someone on my squad noticed a guy in the squad ahead of us who had all of his gear outside his shirt, which was not tucked in (his shorts didn't even appear to have belt loops on them, anyway). I know this is a drift of the thread, but by the rules, should the match staff have required him to either find clothes with belt loops or stop shooting the match? This seems harsh, but it must be in the rule book for a reason.
  3. Sorry for the following question. My rule book isn't handy, and I'm too lazy to go look it up. An acceptable place for an unloaded gun when not in a COF is in the holster. Does the rule book specify that the holster must be around your waist? Although it is obviously not encouraged and shouldn't be common practice, I cannot remember reading a rule that requires the holster to be in the usual place (on your hip) when there is a gun in it.
  4. Congratulations Chad & Sam . Looks like Sam might have had a hard time focusing on Chad with Pat nipping at his heels. Of course, Pat had a lot of sand slowing him down in B Class .
  5. The question seemed intriguing, so I tried to look it up. Couldn't find results posted for this year yet, but he came in 5th last year. Revolver results for '07 are on page 22 at the link below: http://www.nrahq.org/compete/natpdf/Bianchi_07_Final.pdf
  6. What a novel idea . I totally agree. Can't figure out why they quit making them in the first place. Sure has sent the prices up and availability down, though. Or better yet with a 6 1/2" barrel. I shoot 6" and 8 3/8" 617's and have found I really like the longer barrels. Have to agree with you there. Just bought a 6 1/2" 25 that will go to Mr. Carmoney before too long.

  8. I've been reloading both nickel and brass for several years and have had problems with nickel splitting in .38 super (even though the nickel "brass" was +P). This is probably due to the high pressure. However, I've never had a problem in .40 or .45, which both run at much lower pressure.
  9. Not sure yet if I want to sell it. It's well tuned by Apex and is sweet. Give me a little time and I'll probably post it in the classifieds. I hate to get rid of a gun but really don't need two of the same thing. Whatever you do, don't let the word get out that having two of the same thing isn't necessary . I THINK I have my wife convinced that I need a backup for each of my competition guns, and so far, it has worked .
  10. That's a pretty cool pic. Looks like a fraction quicker and it might have even caught the bullet. Talk about timing being everything.
  11. If you want to shoot in IDPA, you will have to stay with a 4". If you plan to shoot USPSA only, then most people seem to prefer 5" barrels, and some even shoot 25's and modified 625's with 6" and 6.5" barrels. Not 100% sure, but I think the longer barrel is also better in other sports (ICORE, etc.).
  12. Sorry guys, but you've lost one for this year. My cylinder is skipping a round when the trigger is pulled fast, so it needs some work. dajarrel's was to be the backup, and it's keyholing with my ammo (to the tune of a 6" group at ~12 yards from a rest). I might not take hints very well, but slaps to the face tend to get my attention. Revo was not meant to be this year . Hopefully, I'll be shooting revo with all of you at MS next year.
  13. Would you be using a Lee powder measure with a .61 bushing delivering clays? That is my method and similar results. I find the bushings give more consistent powder drop than other methods including Dillon stuff. This topic has wandered a bit. My original question was what type of powder performed better in a revolver with vent between cylinder and barrel. I would think slower powders would be better but could carry a good argument either way. Sorry for the drift, Dan - I'll take the credit for that. I'm also interested in the powder topic. Due to recommendations from some of the others in the past, I also use Clays. No clue whether slow or fast burning powders should work better. As long as the amount of gas escaping out the gap relative to the gas going down the barrel is minimal, it probably doesn't matter too much. If your powder drop variation doesn't cause a higher-than-usual standard deviation in power factor or a noticeable difference in the loads when you're shooting, the variation might not matter too much. If it is a problem in either case, though, it would be worth looking into. I use a Dillon 650 with factory powder charge components and have never been able to notice the difference when shooting. I'm fairly new to revolver, so I'm hoping experience from other divisions applies the same here.
  14. Sorry to drift the thread, but I must ask a nagging question. It seems that almost everyone is using 230 grain bullets. I've been using 200 grain Precision bullets. Is there a significant difference between the recoil using 200 versus 230 grain bullets (assuming you tune the load to the same power factor)? From all of the posts above, it appears that a heavier bullet might be better.
  15. Sorry, Mike, but all the Carmonizer will do is eliminate the gun as an excuse. But don't worry, there are plenty of other excuses out there .
  16. Bwana, Looking forward to it as well, except I'll probably regret the shooting part after the match. My goals are no DQ and the timer battery doesn't die waiting on me to complete a stage. Now the count should be up to 18. If so, only need 2 more.....
  17. Thanks Bwana. I've already swapped the 650 from .40 to .45 and loaded ~200 rounds (w/ Federal primers). dajarrel will probably loan me his 625 just in case. Can't resist the next comment - I hope we can keep the revo shooting above other allegiances (I'm a MS State grad).
  18. Mike, Thank you - sorry to take back my "no hurry" condition. Hop, Count in another revo shooter for MS. See you next week. Gregg
  19. Sam, I'm going to shoot MS and would love to join you guys in revolver. The problem is I waited until last weekend to send my 625 to Carmoney, and I just sent Round Gun Shooter the payment for a 25 yesterday. Those guys have been a pleasure to deal with, and I can't wait to shoot the guns when they get here. It will have to be next year for me, but I hope you guys get the 20. For anyone considering going to MS, they put on a really good match. Gregg Wheat FY-46537
  20. Pat, I have both an older De-Mooner (they had longer handles) and a Super De-Mooner, and they work pretty well. Hard to imagine 1-at-a-time keeping up with 2-at-a-time, but it might be possible. Once in a blued moon, though, there is the possibility that one of the posts that pops the brass off might break on a standard De-Mooner (ask dajarrel). That being said, I still like 'em. Gregg
  21. Now if we could just find a brass magnet, we could speed up the pick up.
  22. Mags make good (but slightly expensive) ammo dispensers for revo shooters.
  23. Nice shirt Pat. Might have to order something myself.
  24. Another vote for the DS-10's. I bought 5 loaders, 4 blocks and 1 handle last week. There is really no need for the handle, but the loaders and blocks all work great. I ordered them on Monday, and they arrived on Friday.
  25. I'm relatively new to revolver division, having shot primarily in limited for several years, but I installed a Hogue extended cylinder release on my 625 and love it. I use a Hogue Big Butt grip with rubber on top, and the cylinder release doesn't come close to the rubber grips if you're using those or something with a similar contour. Gregg
