  1. Almost forgot, the new sights will come with a stainless set screw. This way it won't rust if you don't get the oil the way on.
  2. The Warren design will have the U-Notch, Sevigny design will have the square notch and 1/8 " radii corners. The tritium front sights will be .125 wide. All the front sights will have the fine serrations, all the rears will have a flat surface with no serrations.
  3. HM is a category in USPSA, not a Division. The reason, as I understand it, for this is to allow Match Directors to open it up whatever division they want, I.E. Tactical Heavy Metal, Limited Heavy Metal.
  4. I like stages like this as long as there is time enough to get the stage down. At Area 2 they didn't allow you to walk the stages on Thursday, like they have the last 4 years I went, that was a waste coming in a day early. It was very difficult to get some of the stages in the 5 minutes that was given. Some RO's wouldn't even let you walk the stage while they were replacing targets. The worst of this was Stage 2. Multiple exposures from different positions but it was all in a box about 16' x 8'. Every shooter in the squad trying different ways and stumbling over each other. I knew when I got up that I didn't have a good plan and it bit me, 2 Mikes and an FTE.
  5. Level III would require prior approval of course design by NROI and I don't think Frank wants to do it. It also limits course design. Some of the previous years Florida Open courses probably wouldn't make the 9 round neutral requirement. Level I is nice and easy.
  6. That was interesting. I didn't know that they opened up. Turns out they reserve spots for all the previous years shooters so it fills almost immediately. I'm 26th on the waitlist now. Hopefully at least 27 previous shooters will skip this year.
  7. Just talked to Dave at the Area 2 match. The sights are being manufactured now. They need to packaged and then shipped out to the dealer network. There will be four versions, first the Sevigny-Competition. This is the sight that most people have already seen. The front sight is going to be a bit wider due to a manufacturing requirement. It'll will probably end up between .112-.115 instead of .110. The other three versions will be carry sights. The Sevigny-Carry and Carry with Tritium, these primarily differ with a more carry friendly rear sight. The preproduction model that I saw still offers an excellent sight picture, but has the edges beveled on the rear sight. I'm not sure about the standard carry front sight but the tritium will be wider to accomadate the tritium vial. The fourth sight is the Warren-Carry. If you go to www.warrentactical.com the rear sight will be similar in profile to the rear sight surrounding the Warren logo. It's kind of a smoothed rabbit ear profile. I'll update as I get more info.
  8. It's probably not a fluke. I normally start pulling the slack out before the gun is in two hands. Soon as it comes out of the holster it's rotated towards the target. Of the two "AD's" that I've had this year, one hit the 15 yd plate that I was going to aim at, the other was at Area 2 and was a D hit.
  9. I have to say this attitude tends to bug me more than shooters who take excessive time. I've seen many RO's try to "push" shooters after the LAMR. As far as I'm concerned the RO should be pretty much out of it after LAMR unless there is a Safety violation or giving the start commands. I've got a great video from Area 2 a couple years back of an RO, after the LAMR command, telling my friend that if he pointed his muzzle over the berm while reloading that he would be DQ'd. He was loading just like he had been tought by Travis Thomasie, gun high and see the well. Well during the short conversation with the RO he had locked his gun in the Limcat holster. Gave himself a monster wedgie trying for several seconds to get the gun out. Most majors that I've been to seem to place a 30 second limit after the LAMR command. This seems fair to me. The only requirement should be that they announce this and not have it be arbitrary from RO to RO. And as far as enforcing 8.7.3, please no. At the World Shoot I thought it was a mess. It was not ruled on consistently. And from talking to several of the RO's they said they had discussed it before the match and couldn't come to a consensus.
  10. ?? Are you referring to a different brand of gun? The 870's all use steel receivers whether they are Express, Wingmaster, or Police. The main parts difference are in the mag tube and there are several MIM parts in the Express models.
  11. "In limited? I must have missed something. " STI Tru-Sight, SVI Sight Tracker, Benny Hill 6" Fat Free, yep, I guess you did.
  12. Yes, Front Sight is wrong. The final location decision was just approved on Oct 26. It will be in Sherwood. USPSA has been notified, they're just a little slow to make changes. I know they had the updated dates for a month or two at least before the website changed.
  13. "Wow, Chuck, you shot that 7lb triggered gun at Fl Open and Nationals? That was pretty fast and good shooting. Did you keep it that way to get ready for WS?" Yes and yes. I was planning to send them to Vanek after I got back from Ecuador but I haven't got around to it yet. I'm shooting the same at Area 2 next week.
  14. I went 6 for 6 from the left hand port, had to reshoot after the swinger didn't go. Took dang near a whole magazine from the second port. I just couldnt' get my breathing down and had picked up lousy trigger control from the rest of the close shots. This seemed to be the same for most guys in my squad. Especially Todd. Of course that probably had more to do with the fact that his gas block was halfway down the barrel.
  15. Don't think that you need to do those mods to be competetive. Sure everyone likes to have the 2 pound trigger Glock/XD, but it really isn't needed. I ran all year in preparation for the World Shoot with my IPSC legal production gun. A 7 pound triggered Glock 17. The only things I did were add sights and of course Tru-Grip. Grand total modifications cost me $75.00.
  16. Might not be bluing. STI has been playing around with some pretty cool finishes. The new Legacy model uses a PVD coating.
  17. I can pretty much guarantee that 2000 units has nothing to do with approval. This is pretty much in evidence by the whole SP-01/CZ 85 Combat II issue. Neither of these had 2000 units made when they were approved. My guess is the SP-01 probably does by now but certainly not the Combat II. The USPSA list is an off shoot of the IPSC list. The IPSC list, per Vince, does not use production numbers as a requirement. Also as evidenced by the CZ-85 issue. If a manufacturer calls a gun by the same name, even if it's different, it's going to be on the list. For example. If Glock were to manufacture a Vanek Triggered, Bar-Sto bbl, Bo-Mar sight uber Glock 17 and call it a Glock 17, it would be on the list.
  18. Sherwood is located just south of Portland off of I-5. It's about 1/2 hour from the Portland Airport. Plenty of places to eat and stay near the range. The nearest hotel is only about 5 minutes away. We're planning some changes to the format of Area 1 this year based on suggestions from the last few years. I'll post some more info as soon as details are finalized. Club website is www.tcgc.org Unfortunately we don't have pictures up yet.
  19. It's official now. The 2006 Area 1 Pistol match will be held at Tri-County Gun Club in Sherwood Oregon on June 16-18. Registration will be on the 15th and the location will be announced later. For those of you that haven't been to Tri-County lately we expanded the range this summer and now have 14 bays available.
  20. "I do believe this is a sport......and the last time I went over-seas, I didn't see anyone running around with a .38 super, comp and c-more. " And fifteen years ago you almost never saw anyone with glass on their AR. I can't remember the last photo I saw from the sandbox without some type of optic. A lot of those optics were pioneered by bulletproofed in IPSC. Give it time and you may very well see the open pistols. I doubt it but who knows.
  21. So it looks like the date is Oct 1, 2005. The FET is a fair chunk of money on some custom guns. On handguns it is 11%. This could work out very well from some of the smaller smiths and make them a much cheaper option. As far as Brazos the rule would only apply to the guns he makes from a frame, not the complete STI guns. Or at least that would be my interpretation.
  22. This is a tricky little argument. Regarding round count the same could be said for all the guns. When is the last time you "NEEDED" 46 rounds for you pistol, or 60 rounds for the rifle. Why is it practical to shoot a 32 round pistol course, or 36 round rifle course, but no practical to shoot a 17 round shotgun course. I kind of like the high SG round count stages, and my shotgun loading sucks. I've always looked at 3-gun as challenging three things. Loading with the shotgun, accuracy with the rifle and speed with the pistol. Admittedly each skill is tested with each gun but these have been the primary focus in most matches that I've shot. Although I would love to see a 50yd pistol stage at one of the outlaw matches.
  23. Did I read a news report correctly? The Federal Government is going to stop charging small gunsmiths (less than 50 guns manufactured per year) the Exise tax? If so does anyone know when this will go into effect? It seems like this might make things a lot easier buying a complete gun instead of trying to monkey with sending in the frame only. I know this is one of the things that kept me away from a Brazos. I just didn't like the idea of giving the feds an extra $350.00 on top of the price of a new gun.
  24. I'd say go with the Smith. If you don't like it you'll have something very easy to sell since there are so few available. For that price you'd think you could get something other than the Novak sights though.
  25. "As for as hot re holstering, you start every USPSA pistol stage by hot holstering, " Please tell me that you can see a difference between holstering off the clock after a LAMR command and running from one position to another to grab a different gun while trying to stuff you pistol back into a tiny piece of kydex, leather, metal or whatever. And yes I did a fair amount of goofy s**t when I first started shooting IPSC. My first match I showed up with my gun in the holster with the slide locked back. And this was after shooting outlaw matches for 3 years. That's kind of my point. In LE we have to train to the lowest common denominator. I would love to be able to teach my guys some of the high speed low drag stuff that I've picked up. But it would be over the heads of half of them. Same reason I won't reholster a hot gun on the clock.
