  1. It's in the new 2008 rule book now. Appendex D4 #21 about allowing stippling. #22 about not allowing removal of material. Seems #22 also prohibits plugs, but then there's an interpretation which allows plugs that are flush. I got that Bob. Now tell me how to checker, authorized under #21 without removing material, prohibited under #22.
  2. I seem to remember JA giving an opinion (can't find it now and it's not listed as a ruling) regarding checkering and stippling in Production. The statement was that it's legal but you can't remove material to do so. I've got stippling down, but has anyone figured out how to checker without removing material? And if you can't remove material from the grip for an approved modification, how could it be legal to remove material for one not allowed?
  3. I have a couple Accuracy Speaks triggers that are some of the best I've ever used. Jake did them when he was there. They were light enough I wasn't allowed to tell Derek what he set them at.
  4. I've got a C-More on mine now. Railway mounted to the Picatinny rail. The new Brownells catalog shows and Alchin mount that mounts to the receiver and takes a Slide Ride. Looks pretty cool and should be low and light. As far as the micro dot sights, I've also got a FastFire that has a Weaver mount. Should be easy to bolt it to the scope rail.
  5. The JP trigger is a good design and has a lot of adjustability to it. If you are fairly mechanically inclined, it's not hard to install. If you're not, like me, the modular allows you to get a trigger by mail and drop it in without messing with it. If you have to pay a gunsmith to install a JP trigger or ship it somewhere, the extra cost for the modular is a wash. As far as the Gold I saw one at the Ft. Benning 3 Gun. Looked OK. There was a sharp edge on the trigger that was supposed to be fixed in later production models. It's a completely different trigger mechanism. It's kind of cool that they can change it that completely.

    Got Glock

The new Glocks are being phased in, supposedly starting with the 23 and moving on. The two primary changes at least on the pictures I've seen are a new rougher texture on the grip and semi circular grasping grooves at the rear of the slide. Supposedly the grooves give better purchase. I'll probably get a better look next week.
  7. So does that make it legal? I didn't mean to imply that I think it is legal or that I condone breaking the rules. I just said you can't tell the difference between the frames of the three models. What's the difference in switching frames among those three guns and getting a replacement frame for whatever reason from Glock? I'm not saying that it should be illegal. I'm just saying that it's not allowed under the current rules. It is one of those areas that seems silly to me, however the line has to be drawn somewhere.
  8. But the add shows it slide mounted. Sounds a little fishy to me. A company that says one thing and shows another falls pretty low on my list of people I'll do business with. The plan was originally to slide mount them. Turns out after use they don't work. For the company to invest in import, then be man enough to say it doesn't work, go with something different, is okay by me.
  9. It depends on what you want to work on. I started in Limited, before there was a Production Division to start in. After starting with a Glock I switched to a real gun and the 2011. Didn't actually improve my shooting but did look cool. I wanted to work on my speed a bit so I shot Open for a year and fought the gun the whole time. Switched back to Limited for a year. I shot Nationals and realized that while my speed was there, the accuracy wasn't. I was shooting close time wise to the top dogs but throwing a lot of C, D's and even the occasional misses. I switched to Production the next year and haven't looked back. It's definitely improved my game. If I had to lay out what each Division will add to your game: Open: Speed, ability to call shot L-10: Tactics (how to read a stage and plan reloads etc.) Production: Tactics, Accuracy, Knowledge of stage/hit factors Revolver: Tactics, Accuracy Limited: Blends most of the divisions together. I don't think there is anything you really work on in Limited but that might be because I started there and it's my baseline.
  10. USPSA needs to figure out how to award the categories at the Nats a bit better though. They gave me the plaque for High LE at the Production Nationals and Ted Puente the plaque at the Limited 10 Nats. They told me I was the highest outside the top 16 and then gave one to Ted even though he finished well into the top 16. I gave Vogel the plaque. I figure being the National Champion and a cop he should at least get the plaque as well.
  11. No one uses a 625 I'm aware of. For your local matches in PA, do you know if they are USPSA or IMGA matches? Some local matches use their own version of the rules. It would be best to contact them to find out what rule set they are using. For local matches participation will probably be very low in Heavy Metal and may not be recognized.
  12. The last squad model Phil sent out showed open slots. I'm sure you can still get in.
  13. The SOCOM Muzzle break is OK. You just can't have porting in the bbl. The comp is fine. The Glock 21 is a trickier question. Different 3-Gun matches have different rules about the pistol Some specify single stack, some metal frame and some just about anything. You need to check the individual rules for the match you are going to. Did you have one in mind? About the only gun that is legal for all is a 1911 .45 that is compliant with USPSA Single Stack rules.
  14. Here's another question. Same match, same everything but the difference is one is a plaque only match for $125.00. The other is a $200.00 prize table match. The lowest item on the table is worth over $100.00. Top item is over $1000.00 Which would you rather go to? I know which one I'm going to. Now if it's a $125.00 awesome cool match and a lame $200.00 match with prizes, I'll still go to the awesome match. BTW, the difference in match prices is probably an exaggeration. I don't know of any matches that spend $75.00 per shooter on the prize table.
  15. I'm sorry, I don't mean to come off as an ass but have you actually shot any of these matches you're talking about? I'm having a hard time thinking of many big matches that have a cash payback. And very few have an entry fee over $200.00. Off the top of my head, I can think of Nationals, Area 2, and a bunch of three gun matches where the entry fee is over $200.00. I'm sure I'm missing some. I'm also sure none of the matches I mentioned are cash back matches. I think the biggest cash back (entry fee wise) match is Area 6. The entry fee to that match is $160.00. Seems like your complaint is matches raising the entry fee to offer cash payback. If that is the case your arguments using Area 2 as an example are invalid. Area 2 is a prize table match. If you're upset about matches raising the entry fee to pay for prize tables, this really is not the right thread. The name would certainly be misleading. Area 2 has a high cost because they buy a lot of prizes. Nationals has a high cost because they pay a lot for the RO's. And just so I get who you respect. It's GM's that don't win matches because they have other jobs. The ones who win matches and are names you don't respect?
  16. If he can fit two wraps of metal tape around the tube and still get the stock on, and the stock is from MagPul, not some weird off the wall brand, the tube is the wrong size. That's why I say he has the wrong size. If you're trying to figure out for your own gun, use the measurements posted above.
  17. You have the wrong size carbine stock for your buffer tube. Even with the right size tube the MOE stock is not going to be as solid as a CTR, UBR or PRS. All have locking features or much more solid adjustments. You should be able to get good groups with an adjustable though. My JP with a CTR shoots right about or under an inch at 300 yds.
  18. The LWD slide has a cut in the back that works with the thumbscrew model you show. It's not a sight cut. It looks like a little 1913 cut. Won't work with anything else that I've found.
  19. I've got one. I would not recommend it for anything. At least the one I have. Not sure if I've got a lemon or not but I can't see the dot during the day. The dot is huge when you can see it. As in way too big for anything. The cut in the back of the slide won't work with a Fast Fire either. I got one in the hope of replacing it, but it won't work.
  20. Just cut off the bottom of your kydex holster. The comp will stick out the bottom, but it's not a big deal. If you don't like it you can go back to shooting without the comp and the holster will work just like before. Most of my Kydex is open at the bottom.
  21. Think of it this way, how good were you with a Glock for the first month you owned it? I can tell you that when I switched to the SVI platform from Glock I did what I could to make it a smooth transition. I added Arched mainspring housings to all my SV's so they pointed the same as a Glock, similar sights and similar holsters. Switching everything at once just means you have to relearn everything. One month is not enough time.
  22. When the 1x3inch rule came into force there really weren't that many comps on the market. The last couple years have seen many more designs become popular. As far as the length, part is diminishing returns, part is overall length of the rifle. If I have a 20" rifle to start and add a 2 inch comp I'm at 22" overall, which is getting a bit long for some stages. If I remove metal from the bbl and add length to the comp to keep it the same overall, I lose a bit of performance for the gain to the comp effectiveness. Might be worth it might not. The comps that are in common use now are very effective, I'd rather keep the shorter package in .223. Now on my new .308, that's getting a Titan.
  23. While the SG would be the same, maybe (someone could shoot a 20 gauge in Tactical I think), what about the handgun and rifle? There aren't many shotgun only stages at SMM3G. How would you score a 3Gun stage?
  24. I talked to Max at the Ft. Benning and he said he was coming out of the Army soon and would be signing on with a gun company. Didn't name the company and said they were going to announce at the SHOT Show. Guess it got out a bit early.
