  1. Actually, I wasn't going to shoot the match at all before Robert said he was shooting SS. Am I going to need MORE mag pouches now?
  2. It's an aweful feeling when your hand goes back and finds empty space.
  3. I picked up a Lone Wolf G17 slide and have put about 1500 rounds down range with it so far. I REALLY like it. The gun runs 100% and feels slightly more nose heavy than the stock slide and I prefer a front heavy gun so it's good. I'm using it with a Storm Lake barrel and a Wolff SS guide rod and 13lb spring. I couldn't be happier.
  4. Did you check to see that all the grip frame screws were tight?
  5. B Single Stack B Lim10 5 Gun EX in IDPA Red Fiber is best for me but I can get by with green. To be specific, I like the .60 fiber. Some folks say it's too big but for my eyes, it's perfect. I have repeatedly hit 25 yard head shots with it so I figure it's working.
  6. I guess I'll have to experiment with sunglasses again. Being a contact lense wearer doesn't help. Well, I should have stayed home tonight. Half the range was unavailable for the first half of the evening due to a scheduling snafu and 33 shooters showed up, included maybe 8 1st timers. It was chaotic at best. I tanked the first stage but made the best of the other 3. Looks like I was 2nd overall and 1st ESP but the score sheets were a mess so there's no telling. I may have asked too much of myself today and it made me get sloppy. Oh well. Pacing myself has been difficult but I'm going to work on it. anyway, it's always good to spend time with friends at the range.
  7. It's safe for polymer guns but it's a lot more powerful than it needs to be imho. I quit using it when I realized it was removing any and all loctite that it came in contact with, red, blue, green, etc. Grip screw bushings, sight screws, you name it. They were coming loose left and right. Get some of that stuff under a ring or wrist watch and YEEOOW! Not pleasant. I've been using the CBC (non chlorinated) brake parts cleaner in the red can for a couple of years and it gets the guns just as clean, is half the price and not so harsh on your skin.
  8. I feel your pain. There's so much crap from shooting CAS, all 5 divisions of IDPA and 2 divisions in USPSA and and and.. I need more stuff!!
  9. I appreciate the support, and prayers. Chef, don't worry... I have no interest in shooting Open. I'm still diggin' my iron sights. Today, I shot CDP in a local IDPA match that turned out to be a lot more match than I expected. 8 stages and a whole lotta bullets. I got happy finger right off the bat and started shooting beyond my sights and that didn't start things off too well. I did my best to reel it in on the remaining stages and just about made HOA but ended up 2nd Overall, first in CDP. The sunshine was downright brutal on my sight picture. It seems like my eyes are becoming more sensitive to bright sun because I don't remember having this issue recently. Maybe I need darker glasses? I'm sitting here relaxing now, contemplating shooting the indoor IDPA match in Dallas in a few hours. It was my plan to go, but man, I am whipped. 45 ammo is depleted so I'll have to shoot ESP if I go. Sitting at the press to make 45 ammo right now doesn't sound like much fun. who am I kidding... I'll be there. Can't pass up a chance to beat Catfish.
  10. Thanks, Guys. I will continue to pick your brains. Y'all haven't steered me wrong yet. Books read so far: Practical Shooting, beyond fundamentals With Winning in Mind Refinement and Repetition Practical Shooting Manual Sweeney McGivern Kuhnhausen manuals (I believe detailed knowledge of the hardware helps better utilize it) Videos studied: Leatham Burkett Miculek Various major match vids
  11. I have a few Single Stacks but my best balanced one is probably also the most plain jane. Kimber Custom II, box stock except for springs, fiber optic front sight (fixed factory rear) Ergo grips and blued steel SV magwell. It weighs 40.5oz with a Les Baer 8rd mag.
  12. I've been thinking about starting my own range diary for a while so what the heck, here goes. I'm kicking of 2009, my 3rd year of competitive shooting, with a bang. My goals for this year are; 1) Lose 50 lbs before Christmas by improving diet and increasing excercise (this is most important to me) 2) Move from B to A in USPSA 3) Move from EX to MA in IDPA 4) Practice better and more often 5) Be HOA at a plate match 6) Be HOA at a carbine match I'm going to be 41 yrs old soon and even though I'm getting a late start at this, I'm having the time of my life. I've got a good grasp of the mental game and am determined to be the best that I can be. Today, I shot a match in freezing temperature with good friends, unfamiliar equipment and targets I never practice on. It was great! I love new challenges. Gary
  13. I've learned a lot from this thread. Guess I better start carrying a spare bolt in my bag-o-tricks. Thanks for all the great info!
  14. Wolff 14# variable recoil spring and Ed Brown or ISMI 19# mainspring
  15. I was just short of 20,000. Approximately 18-18.5k.
  16. How do you figure a MSH contributed to a safety failure? As I stated above, the grip safety/MSH relationship is critical. This is because the grip safety is what activates the firing pin safety. If the grip safety's range of motion is limited due to a replacement MSH, this can interfere with the function of the firing pin safety.
  17. I had this problem. Then I shortened my OAL to 1.10" and it never happened again.
  18. What kind of ammo are you guys using (dirty)? I've put about 3k of XM193 through my favorite game rifle and done nothing more than pull a bore snake through it and wipe down the BCG with oil every 200 rounds or so.
  19. 2.5-3# works for me. Anything under 2# and I'd probably drive it straight to Dairy Queen.
  20. My fastest recent time using my Single Stack gear was 1.04. Using Limited gear 0.90. I'm pretty slow compared to you guys. I have not tried it from the hip.
  21. Have you replaced the mainspring housing? Aftermarket mainspring housings sometimes need a little stoning where the ledge on the underside of the grip safety engages it. I have a TLE/RL II as my nightstand gun, too, with a TLR-1 weapon light on it. The "lawyer part" hasn't given me any trouble in the 4 pistol matches I've used it in.
  22. The elevation pivot pin in the rear sight on my favorite 1911 broke right in the middle and I had to keep it together with target tape for a whole match. I got through it but how do I get this fixed on a Sunday? 1 broken drill bit cut to fit with my trusty dremel/cut-off wheel and she's all better now. Took 5 minutes and cost ZERO dollars.
  23. Shot this yesterday (SS) 6.58 with some wicked finger freeze after the reload. I had 2 C hits, the rest A's. Should've been < 6.
