  1. One good place to start her would be Steel Challenge. Ask around and see if there is a steel match close. She can start with a 22, don't have to worry about draw from a holster, there is not really any moving. It is also very good practice for any other type of action shooting. All she will need is a gun, Ruger 22's work great. Other work well also but the RUger is a great place to start because they work and they are really rather cheap. 8 to 10 mags and a bag to put it in.
  2. This is the one and only reason I don't shoot steel challenge more. The monthly match here in Georgia is at my home club and 15 minutes from my house and I have not shot it in almost a year. Yes the speed is fun, it is great practice the instant audible ring on the steel is cool but it is boring to me after a few times. Maybe I suffer from a grand case of ADD. I am not taking anything away from the folks that shoot it and win but Maxand KC sat down at Fort Benning and shot it day in and day out for a long time getting ready for this year. Again don't take it that I am taking away from what they done far from it. They won because they logged the practice time to do it. My very good friend Jessie Abbott that won ladies limited and open and her husband have a range where they can set up the stages and shoot it day in and day out. And they did, thats why they shot so well. The 4 people I named off here like it and can shoot it whenever they want as much as they want. Thats why they do as well as they do. Once again not to take anything away from what they do. Jessie and Billy are 2 very good friends of mine I think the world of them. I have not had the pleasure of meeting Max or KC but I know they are great guys. It is a personal thing for me I find Steel Challenge boring. I don't think it would change the winners much or prove anything, the best shooters would still rise to the top and win. They win because they are the best. BUT it would bring others into the game that don't shoot it because it is aways the same.
  3. What ever gun you go with go with hard cast bullets. Or very stout jacketed. I would agree with Mr Rodriquez. The main thing is to penetrate. You have to break bone hit and/or the brain or spine. A 44 or 45 Colt with a 4' barrel would be better but your 357 if it is a strong gun would work. Again, what ever gun you go with go with hard cast bullets. Or very stout jacketed.
  4. She is really starting to come on strong. She is putting in the work to get there. She is a great person, I am lucky enough to call her a friend.
  5. The only time I use a glove is when I shoot full power hunting loads from my Freedom Arms 454. Or my SSK 444 Marlin Contender. Which ain't very often. And then I don't use a shooting glove but a heavy leather work glove. Not to pad my hand really but to keep sharp edges and such from cutting into me. That said my glove has blood stains on the inside so it don't help a lot.:-)
  6. Dang and this morning I promised my wife I didn't haveany plans until Oct. I wish I had seen this I would come up and embarrass myself with me revolver.
  7. Well look on the bright side, you have a chance to be in the top 20. And you could win something at a big match, at the bottom end of B I ain't gonna win anything.
  8. Congratulations to you. I got my card in the mail yesterday.
  9. If you can't find anything else a Fobus works ok to start with. You would have to use a 4" one but it would work fine. And they are cheap. For speed loader holders I can't say anymore. I bought some kydex ones from a company that ran itself out of business because it was slow. So I got some kydex and made myself some more.
  10. I have searched but I can't seem to hit on the right search to find the thread on modifying compIII speedloaders.
  11. He wouldn't. Thanks, Bubber. Nemo I am sorry I should have just PMed you for a picture.
  12. And the rest of you that got older today.
  13. Geez, Tony... At least buy me a drink... Here it is. Ask Bob Perdue for them. Thanks pal. Bob shows up here someitmes doesn't he? Can you give me his contact info?

  15. Nemo, can you post a photo of the rubber big butt?
  16. I triad Jerry's grips and didn't like them. I have a huge paw and like some palm swell. Right now I use Hogue rubber grips on my IPSC gun. I have never shot a gun with the big butt grips on them but would like to try them. The grip so far I like best but I am too cheap to pay full price for are Hogue wood grips with no finger grooves. I have a set on the gun that I use for steel challenge when I shoot steel.
  17. Making B in limited with my first 5 classifier scores.

    Glock spring set

Here is how I did it, put the Glock up and spend a year shooting this sport with a revolver with a 7# trigger. Make B in revolver then grab the Glock again and any 3.5# connector will feel like you have died and gone to heaven. Your trigger right now is probably as good as in needs to be. You may want to try a lighter recoil spring and striker spring but other than that and good sights you have a gun that you can take a long way. Now about the only other thing I can say is get a Dillon load up about 50000 rounds a get to the range. Welcome to the sport and the forum.

    Reapplying TruGrip

I finally got around to ordering some today. Because I have had it with the other grip I was using.
  20. Yep, had it happen to me. Noticed it when I was holstering up for a match. Shot that match and another without a problem waiting for another spring to get in. Now I have extras in my "crash box".
  21. Welcome! You have already been some great advice. About all I can say is find and go to a match. Look at what folks are using. Talk to them, ask them questions. Figure out where you want to start, revolver, production, single stack, limited which ever you want. For limited a Glock 35 or 24 is a great place to start. They don't need a bunch of work to use them. Sights and go. You can change other things as you figure out what you like but with a good set of sights you are ready to go. For production a Glock 17 or 34 are good ways to go. Again a good set of sights and they are ready to run. Revolver, get a Smith 625 and don't look back.

    Tungsten guide rod

I love mine in my 24 and I need to get one for the 35 I picked up a few weeks ago. I am using a T.H.E. I got from TopGlock
  23. Until your hands bleed 5 or 6 times a week should be a good start. In my shop I have an old love seat that I stand over.
